This was our first time to Whitby and we were so glad to find The Grove, Jo and Danny are super hosts and you can tell straight away when meeting them they work damn hard to make this place a great success. The house is lovely and the bedrooms are well maintained and very comfortable. Hand sanitisers were located on every floor and entrance. Masks to be worn by guests in the breakfast room. No self service as Jo looked after everyone.
Danny cooked breakfast every morning and it was so good we found we didn't need to have any lunch. The sausages were brilliant as was the bacon!
The location is great as it only takes a few minutes to walk into the town with all the Pubs and Restaurants you good think of.
Jo was always there to give you local information and suggestions on where to go.
Thank you Jo and Danny, looking forward to staying with you again.

This was our first visit to The Grove & it won’t be the last , our friends have stayed a number of time & recommended it to us & we loved it. It’s a great B & B not far from the train station. The rooms are spotless , with a really comfy bed , they also have mini fridges & provide you with fresh milk & water ( these are kept outside your room ) which are topped up daily. It’s nice to have the small bottles of milk rather than the little plastic ones you normally get.We were provided with enough tea & coffee etc along with biscuits , crisps & fudge. Breakfast was really good with plenty of choice , we found we had a good breakfast and didn’t eat anything again till early evening, it certainly kept us going for the day. The owners of the Grove Danny & Joanna are friendly and welcoming and happy to recommend places to go to eat & drink , if your not sure where to try. We’re now looking forward to our next visit.

The room we were given was a better room than we had booked, thanks Joanna and Barry..

We had room number 1 with a very large super kingsize bed which was great for me as i am a very large person, it gave my wife plenty of room and she slept like a log. It was also easy to access the car park at the rear from this room, parking in Whitby can be expensive, and this was Free. Inside the room the tea and coffee sachets are of good quality, wine glasses provided too. Fresh milk is also provided in a refrigerator on the landing outside the room, that's a great touch as i am used to plastic milk sachets, so that was a really great too.

We could see Pannet park from the window, just across the road and was a brilliant walk around the park, well worth a visit.

Just a short stroll down the road are plenty of places to eat, including a wetherspoons, Angel fish and chips is right next door to that for a take away or eat in at reasonable prices.

The hosts are very friendly and welcoming and made us feel very welcome.
The breakfast is pre ordered the night before, which i like, and the quality of ingredients are superb, the bacon and sausage are fabulous and all hot, everything is served at the table, not buffet style like some places, brilliant.

I thought i detected a slight Dutch accent with Barry, i may be wrong, and the stained glass window on the front door said "Huis" which i know is Dutch for home, either way they made us feel like part of their home for the lovely stay.

The atmosphere is very relaxed here and i would definetly return again when i come to Whitby .

Disliked · It would be nit picking, but perhaps at the right hand side of the window in room 1 some way to block the streetlight shining through the gap between curtains and frame? I'm not sure if that's even possible.

This was our second visit to The Grove and again we loved it ,Danny & Joanna are great host’s really friendly and only too happy to help if you need anything. It’s a great place to stay and only a 5 minute walk to the harbour. The rooms are clean & comfortable, we like the fact each floor has a fridge with little bottles of fresh milk & water which you help yourself to , it’s so much better than the little plastic containers of milk. Breakfast is really good with a choice of cereals to start with then your cooked options along with the usual tea, coffee toast etc & fruit juice. For us we find we have the breakfast and don’t need anything else for the rest of the day . The Grove also has parking available which is a bonus as a lot of the places in Whitby don’t , we would definitely recommend staying at the Grove.

Stayed at The Grove for the first time. Booked early to secure room and was not disappointed. Reasonable prices, good location being within 5 min walk into the town centre. Great hosts... Offering directions to the car park which is off road to the rear of the property. Had an issue with payment as my card had changed since booking was made, after calling The Grove I was reassured payment would not be an issue and room was still secure. Room was crisp and fresh with great ventilation plus small fan due to hot weather. Complimentary fudge, tea, coffee hot chocolate, water and crisps and biscuits made you feel at home. Premises was spotless very clean. Nothing was too much. Breakfast was the deal maker for myself and the hubby.. Plenty of options to choose, from fresh fruit to cereals to cooked breakfast, kippers and bagels. I opted for toasted bagel with scrambled egg and salmon.... Which was so fresh you could still taste the ocean. Joanna and Danny were wonderfully welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much. Booked same weekend d for hubbys birthday next year. We have been visiting Whitby for 20+years and this is by far the best place we have ever stayed. Thank you, we cannot wait to return.

We used the flat on the ground floor, self contained and ideal for us. The flat is roomy, very clean and comfortable, beautifully furnished and tiny galley kitchen well appointed. Owners Joanna and Dani could not be more welcoming, friendly and most helpful, plus they make an outstanding breakfast that gives top hotels a run for their money. Cant wait to book our next stay. They are very safety conscious and covid aware. Highly recommended and we will go back and there is free parking at the back and the WiFi was excellent

We visited here as our first break 'post Covid' and feel that this guest house is doing very well to cope with the requirements whilst still ensuring guests enjoy their break. Sanitizer was provided in lots of places and also in the room. Some changes had to be made such as payment on arrival (to minimise interactions required), not servicing the room daily, plus allocated seating for breakfast and bringing the breakfast out to you - but apart from that you would not really notice and we really felt we had taken a much needed holiday. The hosts do everything well, breakfast is superb and rooms are spotless and well maintained. The atmosphere is relaxed and everything is as you'd expect (we are quite demanding too!). Parking was good and easy and the hotel location was an easy walk to the harbour and centre of things. The steps may be an issue for those less mobile but this is made clear in the hotel details. Would recommend fully and the owners are lovely and really aim to please.

This is our 3rd visit to The Grove and we’ve already booked for another visit , it’s a great place to stay. The rooms are really clean and comfortable with everything you need , there are small fridges on each floor for the little bottles of milk they provide for your teas & coffee , which we prefer rather than the little plastic pots of milk. The breakfast is also good you have a good choice of cereals , or fresh fruit with yogurt then you have a choice of cooked breakfast along with toast , fruit juice , tea & coffee. For us when we’ve had breakfast we don’t eat anything else till early evening, the breakfast keeps us going all day. Danny & Joanna are really friendly & helpful and another added bonus The Grove has private parking, it’s also only a short walk to the shops and the harbour , if your planning a trip to Whitby we would recommend staying at The Grove.

This property is exactly what you would expect from a well run guesthouse and more! As soon as I booked I was sent accurate directions to the free car park ( space for every room, not first come first served) the property is in an excellent location for the centre of Whitby about a 5 min walk, very easy reach of the bus and train station. The room was excellent, clean, comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities and a hairdryer. The room had everything I needed. There is a TV and free Wi-Fi. On the same level as my room there was a communal sitting area which had a small fridge with fresh milk and bottled water, an ironing board is also provided.
There is a large garden with sitting areas to enjoy the outdoor space, there are steps up to the property but that is true of most places in Whitby.
The breakfast was excellent, great choice, cooked well with quality ingredients
The hosts are friendly and helpful and work very hard to provide an enjoyable stay.
This guest house is very well thought out and I would have no problems recommending it, as a solo traveler I felt comfortable and looked after.
I would book direct with the guesthouse next time and not through a booking site!

We hadn't been to Whitby for years and I wanted to find somewhere nice for our anniversary weekend.

We stayed Thursday to Sunday and although the room was small and up 3 flights of steps it was very comfortable and well appointed. Jo and Danny are so friendly and welcoming and together cook and serve a delightful, healthy and very hearty breakfast.

The location is great with Pannett Park across the road, 5 minute walk down into the centre and a bus stop outside to Robin Hood's Bay and other delights if you fancy a bus ride. They also have a small, private car park behind The Grove.

We'd love to come again as there's so much to see and do in Whitby and the area and Joanna and Danny made us feel so welcome.

Do the rooms have ensuit is there a lot of steps to get to the front door how far is it into town
Answer from Sara A

There are a few uneven steps to the front door. We recommend it to someone who's recouping from two hip replacements and she found the walk into town and the steps fine. Our room was ensuite.
