Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A gem of a hotel with beautiful rooms. Had a lovely stay in this quiet location. Not far to travel into Whitby and Sandsend. Our room rate included breakfast and dinner and the food was excellent. Staff were very attentive helpful, especially when our car had a flat battery on the day we were due to depart. Our spacious room was on the ground floor and was quiet with a view overlooking the terrace.

Just back from Dunsley hall ,the hotel has had a revamp , our room was ok, marks on the carpet and sofa, the food wasn’t the best we paid extra for steak everyone in our party was unable to eat , full of fat, the chicken was over cooked, the breakfast was only tepid. the staff are lovely but just not enough of them . Bar closed at 10.30 pm on a Saturday night . Feel there needed someone to give staff direction .

Wonderful 2-night short break at Dunsley Hall with my elderly mother as part of her 90th birthday celebrations. Everything was outstanding and even exceeded my expectations. The hall is spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished and warmly decorated. The food (both dinner and breakfast) was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were fantastic and catered for our every need. Thank you Joanne, Oliver and the rest of the team for looking after us so attentively. I’ll certainly be back.

Second time visit for a 3 night break . DBB deal is great value. The evening meal on each night was delicious, good quality and lovely presentation. Whilst whole menu doesn’t change each day there is enough choice and some of choices did change. Great venue , friendly staff. Hotel is tucked away in quiet location which suited us. Great location for visiting east coast : Whitby ,Scarborough, saltburn, etc. breakfast is freshly cooked to order with additional self service of cereal , toast and fruit . Overall excellent value for money.

We had a relaxing weekend break. Room was excellent, clean and with an en suite and makings. Heating was good and view was beautiful Food at their restaurant next door, Harley's where there was really good food and also a cafe. Staff were homely, friendly and service was great at afternoon tea. Oak panelled walls, beautiful surroundings in a building that is historical but well maintained and a wonderful stay!

Another lovely and relaxing stay at Dunsley Hall. The staff are always courteous, warm and welcoming. The setting and character of the Hall is fabulous. Combined with great food and service next door at the brilliant Harleys. Can’t wait to stay again. Highly recommended!!

I took my wife here for a break was a lovely stay, we had the dinner and breakfast deal which was great value. The hotel is lovely and the staff are really friendly and attentive. We had our dog with us and he had a lovely stay too. The dinner was a three course meal with some good choices and breakfast was very filling. It’s about a 10 minute drive to Whitby and about 25 to Robins hood bay

Our friends had recommended Dunsley Hall and we were very much looking forward to the experience. We booked in when there was an offer on at £120.00 for Bed Breakfast and Dinner which we thought was an amazing offer. I wish the hotel inside was as beautifully manicured like the gardens and grounds... they really were beautiful. However the inside was very tired and needs updating in many areas. We were given a garden room where all the furniture looked dark old and mismatched. The carpet was very tired and the curtains were hanging off the rail. The bathroom however was very smart. We stayed for two nights. The first evening we were given a small menu and our first two choices had run out .... Salmon and Cod. Had I not ordered our sweet when ordering our main dish that would have ran out to. The second night was my partners birthday so when we asked for steak which was an extra £9.00 supplement each we were told they had ran out of that to, so we struggled yet again to get anything which was left. Our choice of sweet had also run out so we passed on sweet completely as the only choice was cheese and biscuits and ice cream. Sadly I cannot see us returning but in favour of our stay ... the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.

As always a lovely stay, excellent food. Tip pay for an upgrade, it’s worth the money. Our favourite rooms are the bridal suite and room 1. Would have loved to go back for our wedding Anniversary in January but they will be closed from Monday 30th Oct 2023 until March 2024. For much needed work. (Staff only found out this week, but hope to see everyone again next year) xx
