We have been coming to Grouse Hill camping off and on over the last five years and have never been disappointed. Friendly and helpful owners, excellent pitches with views of the surrounding countryside, super clean wash /waste facilities, lovely park for the children with the addition of a designated sports field for ball games so other campers are not bothered by ‘mis aimed’ balls! The on-site shop is useful for essential supplies.

The owners are very friendly and helpful and if you do have any issues they are quick to address. The facilities and site are constantly being cleaned but if you do spot a lack of hand sanitiser a quick word is all that is needed. Peak season means everything can run out that bit faster and between the constant rounds of cleaning. It also helps if campers leave the facilities as they would like to find them.

The location is great for exploring the Yorkshire coast and the local pub, the Flask Inn is just a short walk away.

After camping for many years we have now purchased a seasonal caravan pitch here based on our own experiences and lots of chats with other seasonal owners as we have strolled around the site.

Many thanks for your fantastic review of Grouse Hill and for joining us here at our lovely site for so long. Our aim is to be helpful to our guests and our pitches do have the most amazing views. Thank you for mentioning our washing facilities, our play park, and our sports field which as you say is handy for avoiding haphazardly aimed footballs! We do try our very best to address issues as quickly as possible and in the best way we can. We very much appreciate our fabulous guests telling us if anything needs attention as this helps us no end in keeping our site looking great and ticking over smoothly. As you say, when we are at peak season, things change very quickly and we understand this, so our cleaning teams are working very hard to keep on top of things. Thank you for mentioning our shop and also our location, which is superb. And finally we welcome you as one of our seasonal pitch owners! This is a true testament to your belief in us and to the hard work that goes into running Grouse Hill throughout the year. Thank you for taking the time to put your comments here on Trip Advisor.

I first visited this campsite back in 2008 during my Gold D of E expedition and since then, have lived in the Lake District.

I’ve always wanted to return to this campsite for a few days to explore Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby and the Cleveland Way.

The campsite owners were flexible in allowing two further family members to join us on our last evening. Compared to other campsites I’ve stayed in, I would say this one felt organised and after 22:30, there was no music or sound. I was able to sleep fine on all nights, which is great!

The site is in a superb location - one caravan owner advised us to visit Boggle Hole beach where we walked along to Robin Hoods Bay. This was a small, remote beach which we had to ourselves! We also had a trip to Goathland & Scarborough which were all a small distance away in the car. We did use the X93 bus which has a stop at the end of the campsite road next to the pub / petrol station.

The campsite showers and toilets were clean throughout the week and I made use of the designated forest walks with the dog. Also made regular use of the freezer which I’ve never seen in any other campsite.

Email communication with the owners was regular prior to our visit with any questions I had.

We very much appreciate your comments about the quietness after 10.30pm and we make this stipulation clear to all guests. Our location is amazing and we never take it for granted. I organised a weekend away at Grouse Hill for us along with 6 other couples in the Running Water Wigwams, some of which had babies and others has dogs. The wigwams were absolutely perfect, they had a proper en-suite toilet, kitchenette, really warm and cosy and parking right next to your wigwam. Plenty of room in the wigwam and also your own decking, and gravelled areas around the wigwam for you to have a bbq or firepit. Since my visit was a surprise for my fiancé’s 30th, it was tricky organising the rest of the couples on my own! But Caroline who owns the site was absolutely fantastic, really helpful with any questions I had, helped with the surprise (our friends all jumped out of the wigwam and it was just brilliant) and it was so close to Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby so we managed to have some lovely days out and also get takeaway pizzas from Moutreys in Whitby.

Thank you again Grouse Hill and Caroline, it was the perfect weekend retreat with our friends we had such a mint time!

Hello there and thank you for your lovely review! We so appreciate you taking the time to express your views about your stay with us. We are delighted you enjoyed the Wigwam® Cabins ... they are spacious with some modern conveniences and as you say the parking is next to your cabin, which makes it easier all round. Thank you also for mentioning a member of our team. All our team work very hard to help people enjoy their holiday here at Grouse Hill so it is very much appreciated when the efforts are recognised! Thank you also for mentioning the location ... we are so lucky where we are with the coast so close. We hope you can join us again in the future.

On reading some of the recent reviews with regards to this site, I felt some positive comments were needed and deserved. After an absolutely unprecedented year for all, a general want/need to get away was felt by most. But to do this wasn’t easy, whether this has been due to cancelled holidays abroad, quarantine, general fear etc. the list goes on. I want to say that all the above reasons certainly applied to me so when the time came and we could move around more freely, I needed somewhere where myself and family would feel safe and basically abide by the government guidelines. This site is perfect for getting out of the mainstream seaside resorts, but a perfect base should you wish to dip your toe in. This site has covered all areas. Every effort has been put into place to make you feel as safe and looked after as possible. Washrooms/toilets and all facilities are regularly cleaned. Sanitiser is provided all over the site - even when entering the children’s play ground. Unfortunately certain things can’t be controlled - weather, midges and so on but some things just go hand in hand with camping....absolutely love this place xx

Thank you so much for your incredible review! Your words struck a chord with us all here at Grouse Hill. This year will be a year we won't forget in a hurry (although there are aspects of it that we might want to delete from our memories). When we were putting our business 'back on the road' with our Covid-secure measures, our aim was to offer a great holiday experience in our stunning location which has amazing views, lots of fresh air and offers the chance of a safe, enjoyable staycation. We really appreciate that you've mentioned all our measures and that we've achieved was we as a team set out to do ... welcome guests, whatever the weather and midges have in mind, to our family-run site and hope everyone has a wonderful time. Many thanks again from everyone at Grouse Hill and we hope to see you again in the future.

We have just visited grouse hill caravan and camping site. Upon arrival we where met by a friendly welcome and shown to and helped on to are pitch, the spot we had was on the end of a row high up overlooking the site and the moors, the pitch was a great a size and location. The shower / toilets where close and we where always cleaned by the site. One little thing it would be nice to be able to have a mop and bucket in the shower blocks to just wipe over the floor after having a shower especially when grass comes in on are shoes. The site was busy over the bank holiday weekend but everything was still kept clean. We did have a group of campers near that played music till late but this isn’t the sites fault it’s the group being inconsiderate towards others. The site is in a great location for robins hood bay, boggle hole, Whitby, runswick bay, staithes, Scarborough and goathlands. The park is great for kids, was muddy due to the wet weather but nothing wellies can’t fix. We will defo return again. Thank you for a lovely, pleasant stay.

Lovely site, 4 days here ideal for Whitby and Scarborough.
Didn't see many staff so can't comment on friendliness, lovely views and great walks with the dog's.
Toilets are spotless but could do with a stool in showers, needs new hand driers as absolutely useless.
All in all had a lovely 4 days away..
One thing people with dogs off the leads on site and alot of ticks so check your dogs regularly.

Myself and my friend and our 2 children just visited Grouse Hill for a weekends camping. This place is lovely and clean and very reasonably priced. There are toilets, showers and utility rooms available which were being cleaned constantly throughout the day. The site is in an excellent location, only 15 minutes to Whitby and 30 minutes to Scarborough. There is a gorgeous lake and stream onsite and a lovely walking route with amazing views. Our children loved the play park and football pitch. The site does have residents living in static caravans next to the camp site so you need to be mindful of noise and the kids running into their areas. There are glamping wigwams on site too which look great so we’ll book into one of those next time. All in all we had a great time.

We came to Grousehill last bank holiday weekend for 3 nights, we were 5 families with kids ranging from 2-10, and a dog. Before we even got there I was happy, I asked a lot of questions via email and the owners took the time to answer them, gave us pods next to each other as requested, and recommend local attractions. Upon arrival we were really impressed, the kids jumped out the car on the drive straight to the football pitch, we had the big chief wigwams and after getting the keys we found they were spotless, so so clean, we were given a map and a code for the gate but were pretty much left to our own devices, just how we like it, we weren’t bombarded with rules and regulations and nobody seemed to be constantly watching over us, it was so friendly and we honestly didn’t see the kids all weekend, the bathrooms were spotless and plenty of toilets and showers, the park was a little boggy so the kids were filthy, maybe a better pathway but no big deal, filthy kids is fine! The beds were so comfy and huge! We were a little worried about the gang of lads in a tent nearby but the noise stopped at 10:30, we were probably louder than them, also the pods are so well insulated we couldn’t hear a thing through them! The local pub is only ok, took hours to get food (we did order lots but even so) we didn’t go inside just got takeaway, the shop on site was well stocked and reasonable. We honestly had the best time, it’s a proper old fashioned camp site, kids can run wild without you worrying, we can’t wait to come back xx

Hi there Lyndsey, many, many thanks for your lovely review. We love the detail of your comments and feedback. Always really great to read when a guest takes the time to do this! All the Grouse Hill team work hard to make everyone's stay memorable and relaxing and that includes any questions guests might have before they arrive. The cabins are very comfy, clean and quiet and our cleaning team work hard to keep all toilets and showers as clean as possible. We appreciate the comments about the area near the play equipment. Our shop is well stocked and it means you can buy essentials without needing to trek to Whitby or Scarborough for a smaller shop. Thank you again for staying with us once more and for your lovely review. We hope you can return again sometime in the future!

I have just arrived home from a lovely stay at Grouse Hill with friends. I booked after seeing a friend tagged there on Facebook recently, as we wanted a guaranteed warm but almost camping experience! We booked the running water Wigwam which was lovely and clean upon arrival (I love it when you can smell the cleanliness when you walk in!) and the lady on the reception desk was also lovely and chatty. The wigwam was basic as expected, but cosy and warm with a toaster, kettle and microwave included. The blue soft mattresses were also very comfy! The toilet and shower block was spotless when we used it. I have seen reviews below which mention muddy areas and insects - Surely this is to be expected in countryside areas of Britain at some point?! We, however had no problems with this during our stay!!
We will absolutely be back.. We loved our stay - Thank you!! X

We stayed here along with other family members and the staff were truly excellent and amenable from booking to arriving on site nothing was to much trouble.
We arrived at separate times but we were pitched side by side and the pitches are wonderfully prepared and level.
We will definitely return the this site as it was clean with great amenities as well.

Hello David, thank you for your interest in Grouse Hill. Fire pits are only permitted for use with the Wigwam® Cabins as the gravel surrounding the cabins is suitable and safe for fire pit use. Therefore fire pits are not permitted with any other accommodation at our site due to health and safety measures. We hope this answers your question and please see the Grouse Hill website for more details about our site. Thank you again for your patience.
