Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a basic though comfortable B & B. Our room was light with a lovely view of Whitby. You are within walking distance of the main shops and marina but far enough away so not disturbed by the crowds. Breakfast was good and staff very helpful.

One of the nicest places I’ve stayed in. Friendly staff, less than 5 mins to the main town, on the Whitby west cliff with the spectacular views and overlooking the beach. This place is awesome, I’d recommend to anyone wanting a place in Whitby for a stay away.

Thin walls. We could hear everything what next door were doing when we were trying to sleep. Who wants to hear next door talking and going to the toilet, coughing etc when you are trying to sleep? Not us.

Have just completed a 3 night stay here. My room (No 2) on the side of the building is billed as a small double, but is more than big enough to take the usual bedroom furniture plus 2 armchairs and still have plenty of space. The room is nicely decorated, spotlessly clean and apart from a fault that occurred with the bathroom light switch, which was repaired the same day, well maintained. Breakfast is excellent. Plenty of choice. High quality ingredients, well cooked. Not even any oil/grease underneath the mushrooms. All the staff I encountered were pleasant and friendly. It’s around a 20 minute walk down the hill into town, but there’s the X4 bus back up the hill, stops less than 5 minutes walk away. Recommended.

What a great place the Wheeldale is. The standard of hospitality is exceptional, all carried out with the minimum of fuss, which makes for a very relaxing stay. The rooms are spotlessly clean, and beds very comfortable. Breakfast is really well cooked, and special requirements are accommodated if at all possible. A truly family-run guesthouse. Thanks, Rebecca, Toby, Jenna and all the rest of the team, you are doing a great job! We are already looking forward to our next stay!

Come to Whitby regularly and none of our 'usuals' were available the other weekend. Found The Wheeldale on Google Maps and thought we'd give it a go. Great little guest house on the cliff tops a nice walk away from the hustle & bustle of a Whitby weekend. Chose room No.6, which you can do if you book direct, as it had a lovely living area in the attic with views over the coast. Great, clean room, lovely staff/owners, (not sure!), great full English. Next time we're in Whitby definitely gonna look here first, just don't book room No. 6 when we want it!!!

We booked here for one night and wasn't disappointed, we had a super large room, king size bed, the room included a sofa and tv, tea and coffee making facilities. Our room was at the back and overlooked the cricket ground and countryside in the distance. We were lucky to have a bath in our large bathroom. Everywhere was immaculately clean and well kept. There is limited parking at the front of the hotel which we managed to get. Breakfast was delicious. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended.
