The Wheeldale is a charming family-run hotel that blends stunning sea views, warm hospitality, and a delightful home-from-home atmosphere. The Coleman family have run The Wheeldale for over 20 years and welcome you with open arms. Their passion for Whitby and dedication to creating a memorable stay are evident in every detail.
14 spotless rooms are a haven of comfort, many boasting breathtaking vistas of the North Sea. Each morning you will be treated to a delicious breakfast with the freshest local ingredients (or a lighter option) that will set you up perfectly for a day exploring Whitby's treasures.
The location of The Wheeldale facing the sea on the North Promenade is unbeatable. Just steps away from the golden sands, and Whitby's charming harbour with its busy boats and fresh seafood stalls is within easy walking distance. The iconic Whitby Abbey and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum are both close by.
The Wheeldale ticks all the boxes for us. A stunning location, free parking, exceptional hospitality, and a touch of family charm. The Wheeldale is a place you won't want to miss.
Breakfast was nice and very generous - choices are relatively limited for the hot course but with all the bases covered and they were happy to adapt the full English to suit.
I would recommend booking directly with the hotel either by phone or through their website since prices are cheaper and they do run a loyalty scheme if you plan to return. You can also look at the rooms who all seem to have their own unique feature (ours was a jacuzzi bath) and some have sea views which are stunning before choosing which one to stay in.
As regards parking, the drive can be a bit tight but you can always get a permit to park on the road (£2 for 2 days) from the hotel. The road is permit only so there’s usually space.
Overall a lovely relaxing stay with an honesty bar in the lounge which was a nice touch (wine, lager, cider, soft and hot drinks available).
The breakfast was piping hot and the best cook breakfast id had with home cooked produce . They have thought of everytjing . Im a self employed cleaner and i couldn't fault it in anyway . . 10/10 .definitely would go back . Akso you get a parking permit for the stay included .

If you get a sea view it's a great view and we were very lucky to watch Dolphins from our room.
Our room was a bit dated but very clean and the large window gave us a great view.
One thing I think it is over priced even with the sea view its NOT a £140 a night room.
Breakfast is excellent. Plenty of choice. High quality ingredients, well cooked. Not even any oil/grease underneath the mushrooms.
All the staff I encountered were pleasant and friendly.
It’s around a 20 minute walk down the hill into town, but there’s the X4 bus back up the hill, stops less than 5 minutes walk away.
Recommended.
Car park can be a pain so be careful, you can get blocked in by people leaving cars and going out for the day.
Rooms adequate, comfy with sea view.
Breakfast made to order and good quality ingredients.
Helpful waitress.
We booked 2 rooms for 4 people and close to each other.
Only downside locked out the lounge at 9pm when states 10pm
Everything else perfect.
Would stay again.
