Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed at Ugthorpe Caravan Site last week and what a superb find!
Lovely quiet place in the heart of the moors with loads of really nice villages close by.
The site itself was clean and quiet with an enclosed area for dog walking where we could let our dog off the lead in safety.
There was a nice pub on site and the staff there were really friendly.
After we left we had a small issue with our caravan and returned to the site try to sort it out. The manager at the site could not have been more helpful and helped get us back on the road.
Would certainly recommend this site to all who are looking for a quiet and relaxing break 10/10.

Stayed here with our caravan for a few nights. Easy to find being on main road.
Warden was quite friendly and allocated us our pitch and directed us to it. That was the last we saw of him.
The site itself is nice but afraid I cannot say that about the facilities which are dated, dirty although cleaned daily . We were told by a seasonal pitch owner that new facilities were to be built but they said seeing is believing.
We ventured upto the lodge at night but we're not thrilled. The staff did not come across as being very friendly. As for the food we wished we had not bothered in fact we did not eat it.
We think it could be a totally different place if money was spent on the lodge to improve the decoration and clean it up. Also a decent chef in there would make all the difference.

We telephoned this site en-route to book one night with a Motorhome. The gentleman said he had space and would come and meet us when we arrived after closing time (5.30pm.) He stated that it would be £22 but did not mention that it was cash only! On arrival at the agreed time we telephoned to say we had arrived and the gentleman came to check us in. He then asked for payment and when I passed him my card he said cash only payments. (Most aren’t taking cash due to covid risks.) I said I only had £17 cash. He went on to say that I would have to drive to Whitby 7 miles away to get more cash to be able to stay. I said I could write a cheque but that was not accepted. I had driven 100 miles to get there and did not feel like driving 14 more to get £5 of cash especially after not being told it was cash only! Therefore we left and had to drive home another 60 miles in the dark. Not impressed and found the owner/warden very unhelpful. Surely £17 is better than an empty pitch at 7.30pm at night.

Lovely site with friendly warden and 'regular' static caravan owners.
Food in the adjacent Ugthorpe Lodge Hotel was excellent and great value for money (apart from the rather overpriced sweets after the Sunday carvery) with friendly and helpful staff - proper pub!

Good base to explore the nearby coast of the North Yorks Moors.

The only downside were the outdated toilet block, which although cleaned regularly was in need of some urgent upgrading.

Would definitely go again.

We managed to get a spot here at a busy time. The site itself was well-kept but the facilities were poor. The men's showers and their see-through curtains are off putting. Women's toilets were ok but showers needed updating. Please can UK campsites provide the large squeegee sticks so that people can scrape out the mud and hair after their showers. Didn't venture into the Lodge, it looked very off-putting.

out of the way but so close, nice secluded site with good facilities and friendly helpful staff, good food served at the lodge, i found this place while frantically searching for somewhere not booked up for the bank holiday and can honestly say i wasn't disappointed even though it`s 8 mile out from whitby i found it to be a great location quiet and peaceful but was only a short drive from places such as staithes and runswick bay i`ll definitely be going again

After a disaster with a booking down the road at another site, we drove passed Ugthorpe Lodge and saw the pods for hire. We weren't disappointed!! We spent two nights in the brand new shepherds hut (ours had a log burner too and full electric) and we had a brilliant two days. They were very accommodating and the facilities were very clean. We ate both nights in the pub and couldn't get enough of the home cooked Yorkshire food. The owners of the pub were very friendly and we had a wonderful stay. We loved Whitby as well, so we'll definitely go back.

i have recently stayed at the hotel on the night time, for one night. There was a disco on which was good, the drinks were fine and every one is so nice to us, we had breakfast in the morning (yum, yum) the service was very fast for food and drinks. owners were very helpful and the dog was even cute. The food was well worth waiting for we had pork parmo an chips an peas. we even got service with a smile by a young waiter which works there. the night was great, we didnt want to leave. we will be booking another room soon hopefully!!

After 1 season with a tour van on site i was unsure if i should stay. I paid 200 deposit for over the winter this covered me till the 26th of March. On the 25th of march I advised I wanted to remove the van. I was advised the van needed to be off the aite by the 25th unless i had a "recording" of my agreement with the site. I was charged £100 for 1 nights storage. When i challenged this i was told the site could charge what ever it wanted and this would stand up in court. I was shocked and would advise caution when making agreement and paying in cash that was the only accepted payment method. Plus side private site friendly static owners good pub on site. Showers and water pressure on site poor.
