Overlooking the harbour, The Pier Inn in Whitby enjoys a seafront location and offers en suite rooms with free Wi-Fi. This traditional pub and restaurant is just 4 minutes' walk from the town centre, less than 2 miles from the North York Moors. Rooms at The Pier Inn have a flat-screen TV, wardrobe and tea and coffee facilities. All have en suite facilities with a shower. A full English breakfast is served each morning. Food is served in the pub at lunchtimes and in the evening. This inn is around 13 minutes' drive from the pretty fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay. The Whitby Museum, Pannett Park and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum are all within 10 minutes' walk. Please note, the rooms are above the pub, and as the Pier Inn is a listed building, the staircases are rather narrow!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

really really spot on the staff were excellent, the food was awesome and the views are great. Such an awesome time, me and my partner felt so welcomed I would 101% recommend. And not to mention the prices per night are spot on such a pleasure being there =)

Nice room, beautiful view, great bed - very comfortable. Nice breakfast. Value for money in February. Needs a new hall stairs carpet asap. Gave a bad impression (which wasn't deserved). Amazing view of the water and the monastary. Lovely people. Would recommend for a short break.

We stayed two nights and left exhausted through sleep deprivation. Payment for our rooms had already been taken before we arrived which was when we were informed there would be live music both nights of our stay! We were prepared to accept this but to add insult to injury during our final night (around 2 am) we were awoken by violent banging on the outside door opposite our room. This went on for around an hour and was genuinely frightening and unsettling. It later transpired that this was a guest trying to get in. Obviously at the time we had no idea what was going on. Why was no one on night duty and surely the hotel has a duty of care to its guests? The website for the hotel was very flattering and was clearly done some time a go. The accommodation is in desperate need of some TLC - there were signs of neglect throughout including a badly patched up bathroom door, carpet stains, rust, mould and even old chips crushed into the carpet in the hallway outside our room. On a positive note, the staff were very friendly.

A lovely weekend away. Hotel staff were very helpful and we had a lovely breakfast, quite disappointed in the rooms, although they were comfortable they could do with a deep clean, very dusty and grubby, it would have been nice to have had some hand soap in the bathroom too.

We came from Norfolk to Whitby for the weekend and New Year and met up with friends from leeds. This particular day we had met up and done a 7 mile circular walk and called in for a well earned drink. We managed to get a table and a drink. A female member of bar staff collected glasses and my partner shuffled his chair for her to move. She accused him of hitting for which he apologised. She kept shouting at him and pointing at him. At first we thought she was joking. She was not. Even the door staff told us that the evening would 'kick off' if she was behind the bar. Apparently she was from Bulgaria. Behind the Christmas twinkles, this pub is rough, dirty with rude staff. Never to return!

2nd visit to the Pier Inn for us, stayed Jan 24 and Jan 23 - and we will NOT be returning. I'll do the negatives first. Wasn't told when to be down for brekkie, arrived downstairs for 09:45 and ordered x2 full English breakfasts to be told at 10:30 that the chef is refusing to cook our breakfasts because we ordered too late, despite the staff member who eventually came to tell us that they serve until 10am! Wasn't told the combination lock for the rear door so when we arrived back to the hotel at 1am in darkness, had to knock and shout for 10 minutes to wake someone up to let us in! Wasn't made aware of this prior and didn't know about thus depiste our previous stay. Twin beds in room, both very old and creaky. No hand wash in bathroom and main light in bathroom broken. We rebooked this hotel after a great 2023 stay, but it's nose-dived massively. Positives, good size room, AMAZING views from window, free parking and 1 lovely breakfast on the morning when the chef wanted to cook, breakfast that wasn't cooked was refunded.

Very disappointed with the service received in the pub. Greeted with the most disinterested staff and slow service. Had heard great things about this place when it was owned by previous owners and had been waiting to go all year. Sadly won’t be returning.

The decor is dated but DO NOT let this put you off. It was exceedingly clean, the service was lovely, the breakfast was perfectly cooked & delicious, the attention to detail from the salt & pepper pots right to the grapefruit spoon! I loved it & I would definitely stay again. Thank you so much

It's a local pub with rooms. It has a very good harbour location over looking the estuary and church and abbey . The staff are very pleasant and breakfast is good and brought to your table in the pub. Disabled access really is a non starter as there are stairs to the rooms from the pub which are steep , there is a rear access but still steps followed by stairs , our room the floor had a slight drop to the front of the building, this is just the charichtoristics of the old building but if you have a balance problem beware. The price we paid reflected the condition of the rooms, basic reasonably clean , you could slate the place but that would be unfair really . Our visit did not experience noise from the pub at night . There was a beer delivery at 7 am but you have to remember it is a commercial street with businesses receiving deliveries . The room was well lit and heated
