It's taken me a while to leave this review, life and all, but honestly, we couldn't recommend the Sandpiper enough if you're looking for a place to stay in Whitby.

We came up for a weekend as a friend was getting married nearby. Unfortunately we had to change our travel plans a couple of times due to pet care difficulties, and Peter was fantastic. We had to shorten our stay last minute, but they did very kindly let us keep our car onsite for several hours after we checked out, which a lot of other places would not have let us do. On our trip up there, driving from West Sussex, we had a lot of traffic problems which meant we didn't arrive until gone 11pm, several hours late, but Peter stayed up waiting for us to arrive so we could check in, and he was so friendly and pleasant about it. We did feel bad, so it was a relief that he was so nice about it.

The room was lovely, well presented, comfortable, had everything we needed including some fabulous bath robes which were perfect after a shower. The room looked out onto the car park at the back of the B&B, so we could keep an eye on our car, and while there were a row of houses opposite, the only creatures able to see in were the seagulls nesting on the roofs opposite! As well as the amusing seagulls we also had a lovely view of the Abbey in the distance. We had a really nice breakfast the morning after we arrived too, in a lovely little breakfast room where we could have a chat with some of the other guests.

They really went above and beyond the morning after the wedding though. We were a little worse for wear, and decided to miss breakfast so we could get an extra hour or two of sleep before driving home. Peter came to ask us to move our car so an arriving guest could park behind us, letting us get out easier later on, and noticing that we hadn't been at breakfast and were obviously suffering from a great party, he very kindly brought us a couple of bacon sandwiches to eat in our room while we packed. Never has a bacon sandwich been more gratefully received!

Honestly, staying at the Sandpiper was a lovely experience, and if I'm ever in Whitby again I wouldn't hesitate to go back. Highly recommended. Sorry for the late review though!

This was our first stay at Sandpiper House and what a lovely place it is. Very convenient for the town and harbour in a quiet location.

We stayed for 4 nights and considering the current situation we felt very safe, everywhere is spotlessly clean with beautiful, high quality furnishings in the rooms. We stayed in The Runswick Suite, on the first floor overlooking the street.

Breakfast was at a pre-set time, which was a necessary change to make social distancing work. All prepared and cooked to order, plentiful and delicious.

The owners Pete and Manetta are lovely, welcoming hosts, nothing is too much trouble for them.

We will definitely return to Sandpiper House the next time we are in Whitby

We stayed with Manetta & Peter at Sandpiper House in September 2020. This was our second visit to Sandpiper House and despite the difficult circumstances in the wider country Peter and Manetta have managed to ensure that you feel comfortable, safe and well looked after. The standard of accomodation and breakfast has not been affected in any way and is still of a 5 star quality. Sandpiper House is ideally situated within easy walking distance of the town. The dedicated parking space associated with the room that we occupied is also a bonus. We would not hesitate to recommend Sandpiper House to other travellers and it will be our first choice of accomodation when we return for a visit in the future. Take Manetta and Peter's advice to book restaurants for evening meals as capacity has been reduced to adhere to social distancing.

The Sandpiper is one of the best bed and breakfast places we have stayed in, The rooms are large, comfy and very clean with everything you need for your stay.
The breakfast is very good with top quality ingredients
Location on the west cliff is spot on and it's less than a minute walk to the nearest pub.
The icing on the cake is that this hotel offers on site parking.
The hosts Manetta & Peter made us feel very welcome and we will be returning to The Sandpiper

Location of the sandpiper guest house was excellent. Bars, restaurants and shops easily accessible. We stayed in a suite which was very comfortable including a large bathroom with freestanding bath and shower. Car parking included which was ideal.
The hosts were excellent nothing was too much trouble, breakfast excellent with a very varied choice to cover all tastes. We would definitely recommend and will stay again on our next visit to Whitby.

We stayed here for 4 days in July. Manetta and Pete were extremley friendly and couldn't do enough for you. They handle the current covid situation really well with preset times for breakfast. Although we sometimes felt a little rushed, in the circumstances, we fully understood. The quality of the breakfasts was excellent, with plenty of choice and plenty to eat. The quality of the rooms are very goor, I was particularly impressed with the bathroom in the Runswick.
The location of the B&B is spot on, close to the Capt Cook statue and about 5 minutes from the swing bridge.
We would have no hesitation in recommending the Sandpiper.

We stayed here for the first time and can not recommend highly enough!
Pete and Manetta are the perfect hosts - friendly, warm and welcoming.
The suite we stayed in was absolutely amazing, not only spotless but great attention to detail with the finishing touches.
Breakfast was lovely with lots of choice and cooked to perfection. Covid guidelines were kept to at all times but without affecting our stay in a negative way.
We would not hesitate to re book and thank you both for making us all feel so comfortable and welcome.
Tim & Jayne

We arrived for a 4 night stay and were met by Pete who was friendly and helpful, he showed us to our room (number 5) which is on the top floor (4 flights of stairs) AND... helped us with our suitcases. The room was clean and looked lovely, a king size sleigh bed and proper solid wood furniture- none of that flimsy stuff! A lovely spacious bathroom with a free standing bath and a large separate walk in shower. You order breakfast the night before (due to Covid Pete and Manetta have had to make changes) but you have a great selection to choose from - the poached eggs are a triumph - perfect in every way and the rest of the selection is excellent. Pete is the perfect host and even during this Covid crisis you can see both him and Manetta want you to have a great stay, they have adapted to all the changes brilliantly and you feel safe with all the precautions they have put in place. The Sandpiper is close to town and all the amenities and ideal as a base to travel around. This is a truly lovely B&B and they are really lovely people. We will definitely be back and will recommend

We were made most welcome by Peter & Manetta and they did everything to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. They made our stay feel normal despite the changes they have put in place to make us feel safe. Our room, Abbey King, was on the top floor which involved walking up 4 flights of stairs. The room was large enough with a modern bathroom with a shower. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast had to be pre ordered and was lovely and just about right in terms of portions. Sandpiper is a short walk from the town and is an excellent base for the area.
