I stayed here with my friend for a few nights last week 17.1.22/19.1.22 and what a great little find it was. All the staff so friendly from the cleaners who sorted our room and helped us check in. We stayed in room 7 an nice twin room very comfy beds! And lovely and warm. Now for the breakfast in the morning that was fantastic I only had a full english the first morning, second morning I opted for cereal and some yoghurt nothing was ever too much trouble. And Christina was a very welcoming host in the morning. The location of this bed and breakfast is fantastic a 5/6 minute walk down the river and your in the city. And very easy to get too. Thank you so much for looking after us we will back one day soon I’m sure! Kind regards Liam And Dan! XX
Very nice comfortable stay in the loft standard double (room 10). Good night's sleep. Very clean. Excellent cooked breakfast and other varied cold breakfast options. Very friendly staff. One minor point was the lack of hot water for the shower in the morning, but not desperate as only a one night stay. The pressure of the shower was fine. I am sure if we had stayed longer the heat of the water would have been resolved. Overall an excellent B&B, very central to the city with free parking spaces opposite the B&B. Thoroughly recommend for a B&B near the city centre. The price for the room was very good for what is offered and the location. Will stay at St Mary's again if in the region.
Firstly if booking with this Guest House, be aware!…that Cancellation if necessary has to be made 3 Full Clear Days before Booking. I was told on the telephone, whilst making my booking for 2 nights, cancellation could be made up to Wednesday Arrival was Saturday. I was feeling unwell (not Covid) and rang them to cancel onTuesday at 4 pm and I rang again at 5,30 both occasions my calls went to answerphone. I then rang at 8.30 am on Wednesday and a lady asked me to call back after 10am as they were busy with breakfast. I rang again at 10.05 and the phone was answered by a very unhelpful man who proceeded to inform me …I could not cancel for a refund as the deadline was that day.I asked if we could move it to another date and that wasn’t possible either. The conversation ended there with me saying I would have to see how I was then by Saturday, it was obvious from his attitude he couldn’t care less, they had our money. I put the phone down and realised that we couldn’t book into the room until 1pm therefore the deadline to cancel should have been 1 pm on Wednesday. Also I was not told at the time of booking there would be nobody to answer the phones after 3 pm if I needed to contact them. As I felt slightly better on Saturday we travelled to York. On arrival we checked in with our car and that was excellent as parking spaces provided outside and we were given a card to put in the windscreen. It was stated when I booked it was a small bedroom and they weren’t wrong there, it was tiny and very tired. The bed was comfortable although squeaky every time I turned over, same with the bathroom door another squeak!!! The bed linen was clean. The shower was tiny, and there was black gunge in places outside and in, and could have done with a deep clean. The toilet seat was loose. The breakfast was average. I don’t think it was worth the money we paid. The Lady that checked us in was very nice as were the breakfast staff.…
This guest house was very clean but in great need of refurbishment. The room was very “tired” and there was evidence of water leaks. However the breakfasts were absolutely lovely. Caroline and Christina were brilliant! Very friendly welcoming girls.
We stayed from Friday to Sunday in Dec 2021. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We stayed in a twin bedded room which had an on suite. Breakfast was included in the price and was certainly enjoyable. The bnb was so quiet and relaxing . The location was fine only about 10 min walk to The Shambles. We will most certainly stay there again when we return to York.
