Situated just a 5-minute walk from the impressive York Minster, City Walls and a multitude of City Centre shops and attractions, this privately owned, family-run Victorian townhouse is well established as one of York's best places to stay. We have recently undergone a major refurbishment and now offer eight beautifully decorated, spacious double, twin and triple bedrooms All bedrooms are en-suite and have central heating, colour television, tea & coffee making facilities, minibar and hairdryer. Note that prior to rebranding and refurbishment in Nov 2020 this property was called “ The Palm Court” so some of the older reviews and pictures feature may be of the old branding and room pictures. Since the refurbishment, we have been awarded Five Stars by Visit England and a Breakfast Award.

Nestled in a prime location near York's city centre, the hotel offers a tranquil retreat with a peaceful atmosphere and a homemade breakfast that guests frequently commend.

Detailed Reviews
Had a weekend break in York and stayed at MonkBridge House. It was very clean and the hosts were very welcoming. We were shown to our room and had everything explained to us. There were lots of little extras which reflected the thought and attention to detail and comfort of visitors that had been thought about. There was a kettle and fridge in the room with fresh milk and welcome homemade shortbread biscuits. There was also a decanter of sherry to help yourself too. All of these were included in the price. There was a little minibar in the room which included other snacks too. Downstairs, there was a bar with an 'honesty' tab if you wanted a drink.
The bed was comfortable and the shower was lovely. There was a fan in the room if you were too warm. Parking was included in the price and there was a small car park out the back of the building. Breakfast was definitely worth having. There was a choice of different breads for toast with homemade jam and butter, homemade croissants, fruit, yoghurt, cereal which you could help yourself too. For the cooked breakfast there was a sheet where you placed your order the night before and ticked off what you would like and you booked a slot for breakfast which ensured everything was freshly cooked for your chosen time. We had the full english and it was delicious and cooked perfectly. The location was perfect as it was approximately a ten minute walk into the centre of York which meant you were close enough to walk but far enough away to avoid the noise.
We had a lovely stay here and would highly recommend it and will stay here again.

This B & B is the complete package! We first came here 4yrs ago when owned by hehe previous owners, and decided to return as it was comfy, clean and in a good location. Well were we in for a treat this time! The present owners have completely renovated and turned this property into an exceptionally well appointed B & B. Every room is tastefully furnished , all have fridges, tv's, lots of little thoughtful touches and the most splendid beds and bedding. The hosts are both professional but super friendly and keen to share the incredible history of the property. After an amazing night's sleep the breakfasts are very tasty (often with homemade elements) very ample and beautifully presented. The location is very convenient for all the attractions that York has, plus the fact that the B & B has its own car parking is yet another feather in its cap. Thank you Fiona and Paul for an awesome stay.

We’re were greeted by Fiona who helped carry our belongings in explained everything to us. The place is warm welcoming and exceptionally clean and must as far as I’m concerned. It is tastefully decorated and extremely peaceful guests are respectfully asked for no noise between 10pm and 8am what a bonus! Paul prepares an amazing cooked breakfast, but there is also cereal fruit etc or both if you wish. Nothing is too much trouble for them to make guests happy. They hold lots of local information which they are happy to share. Paul even went the extra mile yesterday of completely defrosting the car so we could safely leave clearing all the snow and ice and apparently been out at 10 pm the previous evening to spray de- icer on all the car windows.
I’d thoroughly recommend this little gem to anyone especially for close proximity to the city walls. Excellent hosts thank you for such a good stay although too short. I had the best nights sleep I’ve had in years whilst there. Book before you go if wanting restaurants they are very busy

Monkbridge House has recently been fully renovated to a very high standard, and hosts Paul & Fiona have not scrimped anywhere; everything is both tasteful and of good quality.
It is situated just a few minutes walk to the city walls and York Minster, and parking for eight cars is available at the rear of the property.
Our hosts made us very welcome, and gave us good advice on where to find somewhere good for dinner. The breakfast the following morning was, like everything else here, lovely.
We only stayed for the one night, to break our journey to North Yorkshire, but we will certainly return.

Returned home today from a two night stay at MonkBridge House and had a fantastic weekend.
The house is in the perfect location for taking in the sights of York and just a few minutes walk from the nearest bars and restaurants.
We stayed in the Powell room which was spacious, clean and stylish, as were the communal areas. The garden is also beautiful and well worth sitting out in for some quiet time. Breakfast both mornings was delicious and we particularly liked the little added touches such as homemade butter and preserves! The honesty bar and mini bar items were very reasonably priced and had a great selection.
All in all, we had a brilliant time and Paul & Fiona couldn’t have been nicer. We would recommend MonkBridge to anyone looking to visit the area.
Thank you!!!

This hotel was booked last-minute and WOW did we land on our feet!!
The owners are incredibly friendly and helpful, there is good parking at the rear of the hotel, the location is brilliant with just a short walk from York Minster, the rooms are impeccably cleaned, a brilliant size for comfort, and the breakfast..... well... let's just say I wasn't hungry for many hours after eating the freshly fried masterpiece!
We can't recommend this hotel enough, thank you for making our stay in York even better.
Tip. Have the halloumi cheese with your fryup, it shouldn't work, but it REALLY does, yum!!

We had a lovely stay at MonkBridge House. Paul and Fiona were very welcoming hosts who went the extra mile to make sure we were safe and comfortable, especially given the current COVID situation. Everything was sanitised and spotless. The room was generous with a double and twin bed, perfect for a small family. We had a choice of hot breakfast with a great selection of continental breakfast options to boot. We also had free parking and the house was walking distance from Monk Gate and all the major sites! We hope to return again in the future!

Monkbridge House turned out to be one of those hidden gems. I did not want to pay York hotel prices especially those within the walls. Yes, Monkbridge House is about 5 minutes walk from the Monkbridge gate in the Wall, but so is the rest of the old city.
I found Fiona and Paul, the owners to be a delightful, gracious couple who were able to provide a wealth of information about the city. he room on The second floor (European second) was very comfortable and well equipped. Bathroom and shower were not some of those add-on cubicles found in some older hotels.
The breakfast was provided according to one’s wishes, although it could easily be full English. One morning I wanted porridge and toast. The porridges was the smooth steel cut I remember from Ireland, and the toast was fresh sourdough with homemade marmalade.
If I were to return to York (and hope to do so some time in the future), I would immediately book my stay with Fiona and Paul. By the way, Paul put me on the Jorvik, while a bit of Disney, is a trip into the Norse living found under the city.
By the way, the hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the railway station and an inexpensive cab ride. York is only a 2-hour trip from London or 1.5 hour trip from Manchester.

Everything about MonkBridge House is 5 star and the location is perfect, being just a short walk to the city.
There is a car parking area to the rear which leads, through a beautifully kept garden, onto the rear entrance of the house. Once in the house you can appreciate the splendour and history of the property and how thoughtfully it has been restored with a special note for the tiled floor leading from the front door down the hallway.
We stayed in a bedroom to the rear of the house which was spacious, beautifully appointed and really quiet. Dietary requirements were even catered for with the tea and coffee facility with oat milk sachets available, there was also complementary sherry and a stocked mini bar.
Breakfast is a real treat with Paul providing tasty cooked breakfasts and Fiona and the team catering for your every need. The home made jams and marmalades are delicious and jars of these may be purchased to take away with you.
York is a fantastic city with such history and vibrancy, staying at MonkBridge House takes the city’s experience to another level.
Thank you Paul and Fiona for a lovely stay, it’s easy to see why you’re winning such prestigious awards. Keep up the great work.

Fiona and Paul are so lovely, we was greeted by Fiona when we pulled into the car park and she took us to our room after giving us a little tour around the dining room and lounge room and explained about breakfast. The breakfast is top notch everything is home made where possible and it's absolutely amazing and is cooked fresh with even home made croissants and cereals and yoghurts for the continental side and the sausages and black pudding is the real job no supermarket stuff.
The room we had was very spacious and had heated floors in the bathroom which was a nice touch, the shower was very modern with two shower heads that could be controlled with two buttons again it was spacious. Everything was clean and on arrival in our room there was home made shortbread biscuits in a nice little tin alongside all the tea/coffee making facilities (fresh milk) and yes they even have Yorkshire tea bags!
They are Lgbtq+ friendly and having the pride event on during our stay they were very accommodating with lots of recommendations for places to eat. Paul cooked our breakfast fresh each morning we stayed, and Fiona would make sure you had everything you needed. The best hosts and will definitely return next year. Thank you Paul and Fiona for a lovely stay. Will see you again.
