Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was a stab in the dark as we were looking for somewhere to eat. What a find! The atmosphere and decor lovely, the service brilliant- our waiter Josh very attentive, polite and knowledgable. The food was excellent, the risotto the best I’ve had and my husband’s dish- the beef beautiful. We will return.

What a great little hotel! We wanted to stay somewhere cute and quirky and this hotel was exactly that! In a great location to walk around the York attractions and a stones throw to York Minster. The staff were all lovely and friendly. We had a great stay. Would recommend for couples.

The bar, outdoor area and our table at this venue were lovely. Great view of the minster from the beer garden and lovely indoor table for 8 tucked away in an alcove. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was disappointingly a bit average, burger OK, but lamb a little tough, olives arrived late and were served hot 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. Also fish was tiny encased in loads of batter. Would go back for burgers but not for anything else.

Had lunch and a few drinks in the Fat Badger on Friday afternoon. Honestly, have nothing critical at all to say, or even any room for improvement - it was just lovely. The onion soup, chicken liver pate, chicken ceaser salad and fish and chips couldnt have been any tastier - there is also a lovely range of beers, wines and spirits. Despite being extremely busy, superb service from our server, who even took a minute out to chat and explain what was in the various dishes (by way of sauce ingredients etc). A must visit place in York, and we we will be back.

An absolutely amazing stay. The hotel was so quirky and full of character. Our room was cosy and on the top floor. We arrived early and the staff checked us in. They offered to take our bags up to the room for us. A friendly atmosphere in the bar and a perfect location. Central to all of York.

Wow … just returned from a 2 night stay at The Fat Badger 21/22nd March room 8. This place is an absolute gem , character and warmth. Amazing super friendly staff that go out of their way to be helpful! The hotel is located in a great spot - so close to the heart of York - not far to walk to all the attractions like the Shambles and Betty’s The hotel bar is fun with a great atmosphere and a good selection of booze! The restaurant is also fabulous and great value for money … plenty of food definitely no small portions! Hubby and I will definitely return to this charming hotel … York is super friendly fun place to visit and the Fat Badger is a great place to stay!

What a little gem this place is. Hotel is small but very quaint and decor In line with the period of the hotel. What makes this place is the staff that go above and beyond. Breakfast was excellent value and delicious and made all the better by the lovely Debbie that served us. We were a group of friends away for the weekend and she certainly had the measure of us. Nothing was too much bother for her and she certainly made our stay. We will definitely be back.

Lovely friendly staff. Not suitable for mobility challenged. We are in our 60s and our room was on the 4th floor with no lift. Good exercise or not so good. Room was small but adequate with a walk in shower, bed comfortable. Breakfast was very nice with plenty of choice

Thank you for your review, We're glad you enjoyed staying with us. Unfortunately our building maintains a rich heritage, which makes it difficult to incorporate a lift without damaging its historical features. We hope you visit us again, Fat Badger York

Great location, friendly staff, decent and clean room. The food is lovely too. However, there is no lift and the stairs leading to the room is a bit narrow. We were travelling around the UK, so we had heavy luggage with us hence we requested the staff to help keep our luggage downstairs. There were no proper luggage storage room, but this is not a big issue for us as long as there's a place to keep our luggage as there is no way we could carry our luggage to the room via stairs.
