Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed for a night in February with my wife, 10 year old son and 8 year old daughter. Definitely a 4* star plus apartment but on checking out in a heavy rainstorm, reception would only look after our luggage pre train at £3 an item including my kids school rucksacks for their day trip i.e. not just the big suitcases! Reasoning by reception staff that this was at managers discretion and they were not a hotel. This rang as hollow as the York Minister’s bells, was not dealt with particularly courteously and meant our last interaction with the staff and lasting impression was one of annoyance at the financial opportunism. Appreciate you can’t buy a coffee for £3 these days but it’s the principle! Still lots of pros to staying here 1) fantastic location a stone’s throw from Minster 2) lot of space for the 4 of us 3) modern amenities inc good shower 4) well insulated and warm with modern heating system 5) old sloping floor does give it a quirky charm. Cons- sloping foor and average bed mattress does make you feel like you might roll out of bed at any moment.

We could not have asked for a better location to explore York on foot. Spacious yet cozy, this apartment gave us everything we needed for our short family stay. Spread out across 2 floors, there were spaces to come together as a family but also lots of rooms to find quiet. We would definitely recommend these apartments for any families visiting York.

We stayed in the Yorvik Suite, it is advertised for 4 adults with 2 ‘sofa’ beds, these were actually fold out chair beds, not very comfortable and not made up for our arrival despite the property knowing there were 4 of us. The bedding wasn’t very good quality with very lumpy pillows and very old duvets. The window in the lounge area has a broken sash and we had to wedge it to stop it rattling.

We have stayed with this company on three occasions, in different apartments. The standards are really good and have everything you need to enjoy your stay. We stayed in bootham apartment Monday and Tuesday night, i was lovely and warm in the apartment when we arrived on a wind and cold afternoon. Tea, coffee and milk ready for you when you arrive. Bed was really comfortable and nice clean bedding and towels. It was a lovely stay and can't wait to try another appointment to stay in.

We recently stayed at Goodramgate Apartments, and I regret to inform potential guests, especially those with young children, that our experience was far from restful. Our family's sleep was continuously disrupted by unbearable noise from the apartment above, lasting until 5AM or later. This included loud music, shouting, and what sounded like jumping - all of which woke our young children multiple times. When we reached out to the after-hours contact number provided by the establishment, the response was apathetic at best. We were curtly informed that nothing could be done and that the property was a known venue for hen parties. However, this seemed to be a misrepresentation, as the noise was clearly not from a single-gender group. The indifference shown by the staff over the phone was disappointing. There was no follow-up, no offer of a solution, or even an attempt to mitigate the situation. For a family looking for a peaceful stay, or for any guest valuing their sleep, I must advise looking elsewhere. Our experience at Goodramgate Apartments was not only sleep-depriving but also met with a lack of customer care that one does not expect from a service-oriented business.

Response from chris bird, Owner at Goodramgate Apartments
Responded 2 Jan 2024
Hello Stephen, We appreciate your feedback and were disappointed to learn about your experience. Goodramgate Apartments has been dedicated to hospitality for over 15 years, and we take guest satisfaction extremely seriously. In response to your review, we would like to provide additional information not previously mentioned. On the second day of your two-night visit, when one of our team met with you at the premises you said that you were enjoying your stay. The issue described in your review occurred on your second night. We employ an external professional night watchman service for out of hours assistance between 8pm to 9am, 7 days a week. All calls are automatically directed to this service. On your second night, the out-of-hours service reported that they had received a call around 3 am claiming excessive noise from an unspecified apartment within the building you were staying. We understand; following our phone call with the out of hours team on the morning of your departure, that they did not attend and we apologise for this. However, no evidence of this noise was subsequently provided by yourself; which could have helped resolve this situation the following morning. No other guests in the other eight apartments reported any disturbance either to the out of hours service or ourselves. We certainly do not condone disturbance of any kind in our apartments and apologise for the noise caused by other guests on this occasion. We have since received a comprehensive explanation of the situation and subsequent apology from the out-of-hours service provider. They have given us assurances that a thorough review of their attendance service has taken place. We understand the importance of addressing concerns of this nature promptly and as a result investigated this as quickly as possible. We attempted to contact you initially by telephone on our return to work in the morning, prior to your checkout in order to gather more information but received no response. We also sent an email the same morning explaining we would be requesting a report from the callout service and would contact you accordingly. However, we received no communication from you to acknowledge our attempt to resolve your issues and your review was publicly posted early the following morning. All of our apartments within this building have been constructed to minimise noise intrusion. The property was converted in 2020 and complies to Part E Building Regulations in connection to the passage of sound including double glazed and secondary glazed windows and MVHR (mechanical ventilation and heat recovery) systems. These have effectively minimised external noise. Due to the proximity of our apartments to the city centre, noise can never be eliminated, but we have tried our best to achieve this. However, we are confident the property is extremely well soundproofed and our customers love the location which is a stone’s throw from York’s attractions and shops. Kind Regards Goodramgate Apartments Management

We stayed in Guy Fawkes. Nice space but basic. Expensive for standard ( even taking into account York prices ) It’s in an excellent location. Heating is good. Beds ( there’s a double and a single ) are adequate as is shower. Was very clean. There’s a dishwasher and tea / coffee provided. Towels and toiletries also supplied. No soundproofing so can hear conversations etc from outside and surrounding apartments. We were lucky in that the visitors were quiet and considerate. Car park is £18 for 24 hours - couple of mins walk away. It could so easily be excellent and good value if a few home comforts were there. So drawers to put away small items and clothing ( there’s one small wardrobe for the entire apartment - sleeps 5 including sofa bed). Somewhere to hang coats and not have to drape on kitchen table chairs , hooks on doors for dressing gowns so they don’t have to go on floor , utensils to cook with ( the frying pan was smaller than a side plate ), more than one cup, glass and plate each. TVs in bedroom - there’s electrics there for them. No mirrors either in bedroom so no where to apply make up / use hairdryer. Some furniture is getting quite shabby. The floors slope which may be disconcerting to some. We’ve stayed at other goodramgate apartments ( 9/6 years ago ) and thought they were great. Wouldn’t return to this one as felt like had to “ make do” rather than relax and enjoy the space. On that we were a couple and it was roomy enough for us. If 5 adults were in it would be incredibly cramped - just somewhere to sleep.

Our family of 5 stayed in Friar's Fold and we really enjoyed the apartment. The set up and the beds were very comfortable. It was right in York so convenient to walk everywhere. We would definitely rent from Goodramgate again and recommend their apartments to others.

Booked an apartment from booking.com but it wasn’t the room we had booked on the website. I was expecting a beamed room, sleeping upto 4/6 with outside space, certainly not what we got. We were took to a small room, no beams and no outside space! The lovely people at goodsramgate, who are a family run business, were efficient and so helpful. We were quickly moved to a beautiful apartment, thank you goodsramgate, if only booking. Com had of got it right, we would not have had the inconvenience of moving and paying for a taxi to the new place. Beware!!!!!

Dear Madam Our apartments are correctly and clearly described with pictures on all of our Websites, on Booking.com, Expedia, Agoda and other Online Travel Agencies. The apartment you booked was the one you were allocated. At all points during the booking process you were able to view the pictures and read the description of the appartment you were booking. It is unfortunate that you asssumed the main picture (which is one of our 24 apartments) was the one you booked. By chance we had an alternative apartment you were able to use which was also not the one you had booked. We are disappointed you have given a 2* review which seemingly is directed at Booking, com. The booking error was yours, not booking.com or ourselves and as a gesture of good faith we relocated you to an apartment you describe as beautiful.
