Too many stairs up to the rooms Rooms painted black and small Extremely noisy from next door club till early hours so no sleep. They provided ear plugs which should have been a prompt to what to expect Great location Great bathroom Separate communal kitchen for tea and coffee Overall we would not use this hotel again, and would not promote it due to the noise

Very good location, small but functional room- although a mirror in bedroom would be advantageous for us ladies please! Room very warm but window that opens helps. Only downside many many stairs, was fine at beginning of the day but once we had walked all day they were killers on return, although the murals painted on the walls are amazing. Overall very clean, NOT quiet but fabulous location for seeing everything - we would use again

We were almost put off by reviews focusing on the noise, but are glad we ignored them. (You have to expect late night noise in a City centre environment. However we were undisturbed.) Place is quirky and well kitted out. Unfortunately we had to leave early and, in our rush to pack, my husband left his wedding ring in the side table. A quick phone call from the train and this morning said ring appeared in the post! Hopefully we can visit again sometime. We are so grateful and impressed!

Awful. The earplugs on the bedside table were a red flag. So noisy, doors can only be closed by slamming shut. Inconsiderate guests shouting in corridors, playing music excessively loudly. Could hear people's conversations in the room across the hall. Nobody on site to deal with this. You could contact management at Kennedy's Bar but only Wed through Sun. I would have left and found alternative if the disruption did not start until midnight. Is situated between 2 bars, thankfully not open on the night we stayed (Mon), but can only imagine how much worse this experience would have been.

We were hoping for a relaxing weekend in the City of York. We chose to stay here due to its central location and the place looked rather nice. Unfortunately this hotel was the noisiest we have EVER stayed in. We had to experience loud music coming from the bars until 3am, bin men and then in the early hours the pub below had their beer barrels delivered. There was no reference on the website of any potential noise disruption. After speaking to the proprietor about the noise issues I was offered no appolgy or compensation whatsoever. Her attitude was extremely poor sadly. Having travelled extensively over the years both in the UK and Worldwide this hotel has been the worst experience ever and I certainly would not recommend The Fort as a relaxing place to stay, pack your ear plugs !!!

Absolutely would not recommend this place at all if you want no sleep!! we stayed here in the deluxe double room, paying close to £200 for one night which is pretty expensive for a room. the room was lovely and we had no complaints however when it got to 9PM the whole room turned into a night club. there is actually a night club directly underneath the room which meant the whole room was vibrating and bouncing until 3AM including the bed meaning we both had no sleep. there was no mention of this when we booked. when i rang up to say that this was unacceptable they told me to write an email and two weeks later i am still waiting for a response so take from that what you will. honestly avoid at all costs for the money you will get a better nights sleep at the train station.

We stayed at the Fort York for three nights on a visit to the historical city of York , check in was easy via a buzzer on the wall , a lovely girl came and took us to our room and showed us around , room was very clean and had everything we could need for our stay , Bed was huge and so comfortable , we had the use of two bathrooms which had shower in both , shower / shampoo and mosuriser provided which was very nice , room had a flatscreen tv , bottled water and biscuits 🍪 nuts and Crisps provided which was a lovely touch had the use of the kitchen where coffee/ Tea hot chocolate etc was all provided free We had the top floor which was overlooking the front street and bars , we didn’t have any trouble with noise , you get a code for the main entrance to come back into the building The staff we met were all extremely pleasant and helpful we realised we had lost our spare car keys , sometime during our stay so I contacted the Fort York to ask if they could check our room , which they did and found them for us Without any question the posted them back to me the same day , and didn’t want any postage , they were just glad to have found them for us and were only too happy to forward back to us , which we are extremely grateful , I would recommend this place as it is right in the heart of the city where all the attractions are , and such a lovely place to be based in . Also very reasonably priced for a great position, The BEST place to be . 10/10

The location is fantastic. The room is lovely with working TV, comfortable bed etc. However, we’ve hardly slept due to the noise from the below / neighbouring bars. We of course expected some noise being in the central location but it’s like the DJ is right below. There are earplugs provided but these just don’t cut it for the loud music on a Friday and Saturday night until after 2am. It’s a real shame because it’s a lovely place but I just couldn’t stay here again. We are going home exhausted! Perhaps if you’re one of the people in the bar until 2am yourself, or you stay on a weeknight where it may be less noisy/late, this would be more suitable.

Very well decorated room, one may even say aesthetically pleasing, very well located being central, slight noise from a nearby bar, but that’s expected for a city centre. Very clean, amazing staff. Would definitely recommend and in fact already have (even though we are still here). The no contact check in/check out/ whole stay adds to it. We only had contact with the staff to extend our stay, she was extremely friendly and made the process very quick and easy, whatever she’s getting payed, isn’t enough! Loved it so much we extended our stay!

I stayed on Saturday night and was absolutely appalled. The list of issues is endless In no particular order, and for sure I'll forget something 1) SO noisy that the people in the room opposite got up and left in disgust at 1am. 2) SO noisy that they provided ear plugs by the bed 3) no wardrobe or any place to put things 4) the bathroom door appeared to have been chewed by an animal - possibly rat 5) the room was painted in horrendously garish colours and it felt like being in a horror movie 6) the TV was so small that it may as well not have been there 7) the lift was out of order so we had to climb countless steps in a dingy stairway with terrifying images 8) the photographs on their website are a completely false representation of the reality of this place. See my photos for the reality! 9) walls so thin we were sharing conversation with the people in the room next door 10) £126 for a youth hostel stay is daylight robbery I stayed in a budget hotel in the Leicester area on Friday night - I paid substantially less - it was far superior to this offering. The only good thing about this hotel is the very central location.
