Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Disappointing stay for the price. Would not return. Pros: 1. The lady who works on reception was very helpful and friendly. 2. Close to centre. Cons: 1. Room was very tired and dated with marks on walls and bathroom. 2. Price was £160 for one night, not including breakfast or parking. 3. Car park was very small and cost £10 for the night. 4. Paper thin walls. We heard everyone coming home from their nights out. 3am people walking around talking loudly. 5am it sounded like someone was running around the hallway. 5. Beds were very uncomfortable. With the noise and uncomfortable beds we had hardly any sleep so we decided to head home about 7am.

The room was basic but okay for a two night stay. I did ask for a bathroom with a bath, which I was given, but it was so small I didn't end up using it. The bathroom could definitely have done with a lick of paint as it didn't look like it had had much attention for quite some time. The floors were incredibly squeaky but overall it was okay for the price paid. Good location, a 10-15 minute walk into the city centre

Hotel room okay. Bed spacious. Location perfect. On suite modern and clean. Only gripe with this hotel was how cold the room was and the windows in the room were dodgey to open/close. Definitely need to look at the windows in these rooms and the old fashioned radiators need replacing to something that emits more warmth. Overall despite gripes, an okay stay, would try again.

Basic hotel, the staff are friendly. The single beds are extremely narrow and slightly saggy! The bathroom could've been cleaned better (blue toothpaste left in sink and one towel smelt like someone had already used it.) Handy for the station, Racecourse and 10 minute walk into town. Parking is limited.

Well you get what you pay for. We didn’t pay much and we certainly didn’t get much. The plus points were a pleasant reception area with comfy sofas and our bed was perfectly comfortable. But many things were less than perfect with our room. There was peeling wallpaper on parts of the room walls and the skirting boards looked as if they’d been in need of redecoration for ages. Our wardrobe had only three hangers for two people. My wife lost an earring and when we lifted the mattress to look for it found a layer of dust that couldn’t have possibly been touched for months and months (or even for years). The shower pressure was poor and the paint on the ceiling in the bathroom was peeling off. The cover for the toilet roll holder screws was missing and the screws were loose so it wobbled and leant at an angle. Also there were cracks round the bathroom sink and a dirty extractor vent. I’m sure there are far better choices for budget travellers to York.

Hotel is spotless, all staff very relaxed and friendly. Room meets budget standards no complaints. Breakfast very good. Location really good short walk into the centre of York and plenty of pub’s and restaurants, takeaways plus a small Sainsbury’s in the same street as the hotel. We parked at South Railway car park 24hr.

Me and my husband booked to stay here for two nights over a weekend in January. The location of the hotel is good as it is a short walk away from the Shambles etc. We booked through booking.com, and we put a filter in for parking. When we booked we were under the impression that there would be plenty of parking but shortly after paying we received an email from Ibis stating parking was limited first come first serve, needless to say the car park was tiny and I'm willing to bet that most cars that were just carelessly parked there were staff. We also found out that parking was £10 a night and not included in the price of the room, both of us felt this was a con! The room itself was ok, there was a hole in the wall and the bathroom was a deathtrap for being slippery. Once in the shower, there's a small sign that reads bathmats available at reception, something I feel I needed to know before getting in. We booked the room for 2 adults, and when greeted at reception, the receptionist confirmed a room for 2 adults and breakfast for 2 mornings for 2 adults, however on the second morning a member of staff had challenged us stating that we needed to pay for a second breakfast as this hadn't been included in the price. We checked our confirmation and in the small print was the fact that as it was a twin room only one breakfast had been reserved. We spoke to a lady at reception who listened and understood the confusion and for this reason wavered the breakfast.

We stayed one night here as part of our Great Britain tour. The hotel is very central and is just a quick walk to the city centre. The breakfast was delicious and the hotel was cosy and warm. I’d definitely stay again. Great place to go for a run too.

While the room we stayed in, room2, had been refurbished to a good standard, there was a terrible smell in there from the first day. It was sorted out by the helpful staff, but this should have been checked prior to occupancy. The breakfast was excellent, but as you had to pay £10.50 each for it it was what would have been expected. Personally this is the most expensive hotel I have ever stayed in, because the room was £175 per night, £10 parking per night in the hotel car park and £21 for the breakfast, taking it to £206 per night for a 2 star hotel that is nearly a mile from the centre of York. It is pure profiteering because of the Xmas market which is nowhere near as good as it used to be. Sad to say I won’t be returning to this hotel again, even though the staff are very pleasant and hard working.

Dear Guest Thank You for your review of ibis York Centre, I am sorry on this occasion you found the price high and as you indicate when there are events on in the City the rates are generally higher in all hotels. We do benchmark our rates to remain competitive with all hotels in our price bracket but I do agree the market dictates the price we sell at. I am happy you encountered good service from the team and we do hope to welcome you back in future. Kind Regards John Holroyd General Manager
