The hotel was well presented with a lovely workforce on hand to ensure your stay is comfortable and you are well fed and watered during your stay.

My room was like the platform 9 3/4 room on a busy junction of stairwell between the ground floor and main first floor. This can be annoying if you are sensitive to noise and light sleeper which constant patters of footsteps passing your room at all hours of the day. The room was well maintained, apart from some tricky to close windows and rock hard pillows.

The housekeeping standards was little bit hit and miss but overall it was clean and safe which all matters at end of the day. After the 2nd night of my stay I ran out of white sugar and to constantly go to reception for White Sugar which was a inconvenience. The bathroom was either partly serviced and cleaned everyday or fully cleaned and serviced depending on the housekeeper of the day.

The was also located at the end hotel with a courtyard and annex attached. This was not issue for the first 4 nights of my stay. As it was quiet all the time, it was only the final night I had issues with the noise of the guest staying in Annex. I mentioned to the Hotel management and they said it a common issue at weekends and constantly get complaints about the noise and there nothing the hotel management can do about the noise disturbances after 9pm.

The food was cooked fresh everyday and excellent portion sizes to keep you full and ready to explore York. I opted to have a evening meal in the Hotel restaurant and it was amazing experience with 4 excellently sized portions to enjoy at reasonable price.

If you are on budget or just fancying on staying outside the city walls. I highly recommend trying out this hotel but try and avoid the weekends when there no coach holidays booked. As you will have more relax full stay during the week.

We had a lovely weekend through Loch Lomond Travel. Excellent value. From the moment we arrived the hotel was warm and welcoming. Our room, as requested was on the upper floor. It was warm, very clean and an adequate size. We did watch the TV at night but it was a small flatscreen and quite difficult to see from our bed. The meals were absolutely delicious, we ate far too much, all the staff were friendly and efficient. Nice to be served at both breakfast and dinner, rather than a buffet style. The bar prices were very reasonable and we enjoyed sitting in the warm, public areas at night. There was live music on the Saturday night, very pleasant. Nicely decorated for Christmas and if you are a fan of Laurel and Hardy you will love the photos etc. The hotel is ideally situated just along from the Micklegate Bar and about a 15 minute walk to the centre of York which was bustling at this time of year. Super weekend, thanks to everyone who made it so special on the run up to Christmas.

Stayed at Wheatlands lodge for 2 nights on my first visit to York . It’s a fairly old hotel but very popular and was full whilst we were there. Staff were very helpful on arrival … the very small car park at the rear was full but the hotel rents the school car park very nearby. Staff gave all relevant info on arrival … the hotel is oldish but kept very clean and tidy. Our room was cosy with enough storage for our clothes … tea/coffee makings supplied… always a God send … there is a lovely atmosphere with Laurel and Hardy paraphernalia around the lounge and bar areas….. drinks and food at the hotel really well priced. Bathroom is a little “ cosy” but it did the job… staff are very welcoming… breakfast served in the dining room by service … the staff there are very be attentive to patrons needs and breakfast is excellent with a wide choice …. Towels are very nice and room was cleaned whilst we were there too…. It’s only a lovely 20 minute to the city centre where there is soooooo much to see and do… plenty of bars and places to eat if you don’t eat at the hotel…. Do go to York minster.. even if you are not religious.. the place is awesome … how did they build that 900 years ago 😩…
I will go back to York one day and will again try to stay at the Wheatlands lodge hotel… recommended for sure… thank you to all the staff there for your welcome … oh yes complimentary tea/coffee on arrival too….👍👍👍

A very nice, old hotel developed from a row of Victorian homes about a 20-minute walk from York's old town.

We loved the place and were given a huge double room (66) adjacent to the bar with high ceilings and a large bay window. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed except for breakfast and it was much further from central York than I had realized when we booked.

Breakfast was a highlight with a menu including a full English breakfast (a single fried egg, two slices of bacon, a Cumberland sausage, a hash brown, beans, mushrooms, tomato, and toast), poached eggs on toast, porridge, cereals, yogurt, pastries (you have to ask for), and other items.

We paid just over £100 per night on Booking.com, but I later found a special on their website where we could have saved £100, a stay four nights deal for the price of three, so check the website before reserving.

The 20-minute walk to town was grueling in the rain the first night, but the weather calmed the next three days and the walk was tolerable. For the price, we could have stayed in York's historic center, so I would say that the room was overpriced.

The parking situation was a bit of a nightmare with seven narrow spots in cramped quarters behind the hotel. I made the mistake of parking the rental car head first the first night, having to back up with little room to spare when leaving the next morning. On our final night, there were no spaces available because one guest had parked at such an absurd angle that made it impossible to take the last remaining spot. Fortunately, we found the car's owner and they gracefully parked their car so we could enter that last spot. The overflow lot is not close by, so try to find a spot behind the hotel and back in to facilitate a safe and easy departure.

Me and my girlfriend had our first holiday together here. Wheatlands Lodge is very much a hidden gem. The rooms were so clean, the staff were incredibly welcoming as we were very much not their usual type of holiday makers. They did all they could to keep as reassured that everything would run smoothly.

It also has a very nice front garden where you can enjoy the sunshine with a drink from the hotel's bar. The beds were very comfortable and the hotel is in a very good location being relatively close to York City Centre, everything being a maximum of 15 minute walk.

The breakfast was included in the price of the stay so we didn't have to look at any of the other restaurants for breakfast each morning, a win-win for us! And at just £68 a night, this was a remarkable price for both night and breakfast.

The only minor issue with this hotel is the parking. Although parking here is free, there are only 8 car parking spots in its car park and the hotel has 56 rooms. So parking up here is a bit of a lottery, you may be better with street parking on Scarcroft Road which is in front of the hotel.

Even so, we had a wonderful stay and we would love to come back here again.

56 rooms and a max of 8 parking spots means the "free parking"is at best misleading. I'm disabled but no parking at all and certainly no allocated disabled parking either. The receptionist basically interrogated us as to where we'd parked our car instead (none of her business as they could not deliver on what they advertised even though Im disabled) and she judged us and said, "how rude!" as we temporarily put our car somewhere where there was no "no parking" signs. Again, none of her business really. Don't speak to paying Customers like that.
Also, my bedsheet was stained. Not nice.
The shower water was cold for a good 5 mins.
Breakfast was great.
Won't be returning though, for reasons above.

We stayed here for a long weekend with a number of cousins and their spouses. The reception was warm and welcoming, the rooms comfortable and well appointed and the meals were excellent. We were very impressed with the service, particularly at meal times. How they manage to produce so many meals from such a small kitchen amazes me. We were never kept waiting , and the young waiters and waitresses were a real credit. Overall the value for menu was exceptional.
Two slight negatives - parking can be a problem (but speak to reception and they deal with it), and as a real ale man the single draft beer available was not to my taste at all. On the positive side however, the wines on offer were at unusually low prices !
We would definitely recommend Wheatlands and will go again.

This hotel is in easy walking distance to the town centre of York or the tour bus stops at the end of the street. It has free parking, it is very clean and the room was serviced daily. The breakfast was included in the price and was a full English which was excellent and the evening meal was excellent value (book in advance it’s very popular).
The staff are friendly and helpful, I was made to feel very welcome, although I booked a single room I was upgraded to a twin at no extra cost, the room had a hair dryer and tea and coffee making facilities, clean towels daily.
Beautiful gardens to sit out as the weather was lovely. I would definitely stay here again 👍

EXTRAORDINARY just doesn't cover it. We found this place by chance and has been one of the best decisions ever. Fiona and Tim go above and beyond to make you feel at home and Tim even spent 40 minutes at the phone trying to find us a way to get to Holyhead on the 17th since we got stuck due to the train strikes, the house is just 10 minutes walking from the station and 15 to the town's center and it's beautiful inside and outside, the Christmas decorations were already up when we got there and it added a special coziness to the place.

Fiona made sure we could stay an extra night without hesitation, she also was kind enough to give us some breakfast way before the normal schedule since we had to catch a train really early, she also called a cab for us. The staff is amazing, kind and helpful, they even helped us get some washing done and made sure nothing shrank, all with no extra charge.

Food is amazing, dinner has really generous portions and their bar is attended by a really lovely soul that'll make pretty much any cocktail you request while having a nice chat. This is a really lovely, warm, home-like place to stay, I'm definetely coming back someday.

Great place to stay when visiting York or Races.
We arrived to a lovely welcome from the lovely Maz! She was so helpful. Provided us the room we requested prior to arrival which was great customer service.
Lovely twin room on the 2nd floor facing the front gardens, which are kept immaculate with lovely flowers beds and patio furniture to sit out with a drink from the hotel bar.
Dining at breakfast was slick and efficient with a good choice of food items all table service so nice and fresh. The ham and 2 poached eggs was dee lish.
The town centre was just a short walk away to bars and shops galore.
A perfect stay for the weekend away. Lovely 😍
