Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A beautiful building with great artefacts, however the room was disappointing for the price. Dont bother with an upgrade it’s just not worth it For price paid would have expected bottle of water in the room and the hospitality tray to have been replenished the next day … we had neither Only one packet of biscuits between us …. Very frugal and quite mean for the price The room wasn’t very warm the heating didn’t stay on long enough It’s quite a way out of the centre Car park is an advantage but still doesn’t justify the high price Breakfast was very good but I agree with another reviewer about the sausages … not nice at all Jam was cheap plastic tubs and again quite frugal with butter portions … shouldn’t have to ask for more for price paid Really not value for money we felt extremely ripped off

Lovely, period guest house with characterful features - stained glass, cornicing, fire places - and quality fixtures and fittings. Spacious comfortable rooms - we had a triple - with modernised bathrooms. Great and plentiful breakfast. Half hour walk to the centre or three stops on the bus which stops very close by. Adjacent to Glen Gardens.

Ascot House is a lovely guest house within walking distance of York City Centre. It is in a nice area with a coffee shop/bar (2many wines), Co-op and Post Office right across the road. They have their own car park and a nice park next door. Our room had a view across the park to York Minster. Our room was clean and very comfortable. The staff were very attentive and the breakfast excellent. June, the owner was very attentive. Would highly recommend.

We booked this hotel for 2 nights during the York Ice Trail. We were greeted by a lovely lady called June. Our room was on the very top floor, it was a twist of modern and period. The bathroom was modern, with the cast iron fireplace adding to the period features. It was great our dog was allowed both in the room and downstairs for breakfast. Full English breakfast wasn't massive, but was big enough and filled with local produce. The waiter and waitress were both pleasant and helpful. As well as the other breakfast choices like cereal and continental meats, it was hard to fault this hotel. Even after our second day was cut short due to the weather, although we had checked out June allowed us to use the lobby to change out of our wet clothes. A 15 to 20 minute walk from the hotel took you to the city wall, from there you were in the city centre.

Our family of three were arranged to stay in a room at the top floor. So, moving your luggage along the narrow staircase may pose some challenges. The room space is reasonable and the bathroom facilities are very clean and new. The host is very kind and the breakfast is fanatastic with very polite and professional staff and of course good food. A value-for-money stay for the classical B&B experience which you should try if possible

We stayed here with our dog in room 14 to bring in the New Year. We couldn’t have chosen anywhere better. Lovely welcome by June on arrival. Only a 15 minute walk into York which was ideal for us. Fantastic breakfast with friendly and attentive staff, special mention to Joe, great asset. Great stay in a 4 poster bed, which was really comfortable and an amazing en-suite. Would definitely stay again.

Another great weekend with June, Friday to Monday and just as welcoming as before with the dog. Rooms were fantastic as always staff are very friendly and welcoming service is great, breakfast is great and more than enough to set you up for a day in York. Beds are so comfortable and the on-suite is a pleasure. Booking for next year is a challenge with it being so popular but we’ll be there so how.

Beautiful building with tasteful decor to suit the period charm. We had room 16 with a four poster bed and it was lovely. Weather was cold -3 with a little snow but the room was always cosy and warm, heating was on all night and it was appreciated ! Breakfast was excellent. Great selection for the continental and English cooked to order with your personal choices. Joe and Charutti served breakfast with a smile and great professionalism. I would recommend this place all day long. Thank you for such a lovely stay, and for providing great Christmassy weather too !!
