An award winning campsite. York’s Naburn Lock Countryside Caravan Park is a big hit with Grown-Ups. The 30 acre Naburn Lock Caravan Park is a very popular AA4 Gold Pennant Caravan Park. It attracts guests from all over the U.K. and Europe. Naburn Lock is a particularly attractive point along the River Ouse, just four miles south of the city. Its location, in a local area of outstanding natural beauty is adjacent to the river and surrounded by flowering water meadows. This makes it a truly special place for walkers, cyclists, fishermen and tourists. York Naburn Lock Caravan Park has become a real hit with grown-ups wanting to tour Yorkshire, walk the riverbank, cycle or fish on the park’s own private waters. The park is exclusively for adults and is part of the prestigious Tranquil Parks group, a group of some of the top adult only touring parks in the country. The site has been completely re-landscaped with all new pitches laid to accommodate the larger style of caravans and motorhomes in use today. The park retains its ‘paddock’ layout with hedges separating each group of 8–10 pitches. New electrics have been installed throughout the park and many of its 115 pitches are now fully-serviced. These have fresh water tap and grey waste drain in addition to electric hook-up from the new lighted services bollards. Guest’s four-legged companions have not been overlooked. 10 acres of meadow are retained as pet exercise fields. Further developments are already afoot. the site has submitted plans to rebuild the facilities building as soon as permitted. The existing facilities building is deceptive though. Its unassuming exterior opens to a toasty warm, scrupulously clean, interior. Everything is functional and there’s no shortage of hot water at any time of day or night. The park’s campsite shop is well stocked with food, drinks, alcohol and camping accessories. Naburn Village boasts a very fine Inn and restaurant within walking distance, though the nearest shop is York Retail Outlet, five minutes’ drive towards the city. The Retail Outlet is one of York’s premier retail locations and is a P+R terminus for the city centre. York is a fabulous city to visit at any time of the year and the park is blessed with a regular bus service from the park gate. Aside from road buses, the York River Bus service operates from Naburn Lock Wharf on Saturdays and Sundays through the main season with additional sailings during school holidays. For more active guests, there is Sustrans65 cycle route into York which guests can join in Naburn Village, a mile from the park. The park’s website also provides a guide to walking into the city via the former Naburn–Ouse railbridge. For many guests, Naburn Lock is the reason to book at the caravan park. The complex comprises an impressive tidal weir, river island and two massive ship locks, constructed in 1757 to provide navigation for barges and ships to York City. One of the locks remains operational for leisure craft. It is pure delight to sit on the island watching the natural world go by. Keep your eyes peeled for the multitude of wild life and birds. Even the occasional inquisitive seal visiting from the River Humber. Meanwhile the park’s six fishing pegs are available below the weir. The location is good for bream carp and perch while , salmon landings are common in season.

Just had our first motorhome outing since lockdown and visited this site for two nights. We chose the services pitches in the adult only area. Having grey waste, water and EHU on each pitch with free wifi is an added bonus for this lovely site. The efficient and friendly team run a great site. Lots of dog walking opportunities and all the guests were mindful of social distancing. Precautions taken sensibly in the toilet and shower facilities but no queues during our stay.

Stayed here with my partner for 3 nights last week in our mazda bongo. Unfortunately we couldn't get an electric hook up but that wasn't a problem. The staff/owners were lovely they couldn't have been any more welcoming on our arrival and quickly showed us where we could park and get our awning up. Once sorted e checked out the toilets and shower block which were spotless, they also had plug points so you could dry your hair. The shop was well stocked and very well priced. The grounds were lovely and again immaculate. There are some lovely walks or cycles in the area if that's your thing, if not the bus stops right at the door to take you into York centre. I would definitely recommend this site next time might try to book adult only section but either way can't wait to go back. Only disappointing thing was I stupidly didn't book longer. Thanks for a great break.

First time we’ve stayed at this site and have to say it’s one of the best sites we’ve ever stayed at. Spoke to a lovely lady on the phone to sort the booking and was greeted by the same lady when we arrived. Check in was advised at 1pm and we turned up early (11am) with the intention to park up for a couple of hours and explore the surroundings but the lady said we could pitch up straight away which was a nice touch we weren’t expecting but MUCH appreciated.
We were personally escorted to our pitch by Peter which again was unexpected but really going the extra mile.
The nearby lock and country path walks are stunning!
The on site shop was well stocked with all the essentials you could need.
The only one slight negative we could find (and it was hard to find any) was the water pressure in the showers was quite low (especially if a toilet was being flushed while showering) but the actual toilets and showers themselves were spotless and clearly well maintained.
We had only been at the site a few hours and instantly went to the check in desk to book in for the August bank holiday as we fell in love with the place straight away.
Will definitely be regulars now - 10/10

Well kept and organised caravan site in a lovely location.
Helpful friendly staff.
Clean shower block with nice hot water, water pressure could do with being improved very weak flow.
WiFi very poor in & out all the time, you would expect at £34 a night that these negatives would be addressed as it spoils what could be a very good stay.

Hello Alan. I'm glad you thought the site was well kept, well organised, in a lovely location and the staff were helpful. The water pressure is normally fine, so I'm not sure why you experienced an issue during your stay - please could you get in touch to let us know when this happened and which shower you were using so that we can investigate. The wifi is free for all guests to use if they wish, and although it is fine for emails and suring the web, we are not in a 'fibre' area, so cannot get the super fast speeds that you may have wanted. As soon as it is possible for us to get a faster connection, we will of course be installing it. At present the WIFI speed is something we unfortunately cannot address.

The facilities were fairly average quality for the price you pay per night. The shop is really well stocked, even with a few Yorkshire souvenirs. The location close to York is great. It's a very short walk down to the river which is rally nice with the river-boat cruise into the city.

I read that the road is noisy but not where we were on the site, it was fine. The grounds were well kept and the place is clearly looked after but there was just a few ropey bits that need a little attention in the showers and toilets including the shower pressure. The showers weren't that good compared to other organised sites we have stayed at, we spoke to the warden about this before we left and they said they would pass this on.

I found that one set of wardens were over officious. The other couple of wardens were really nice taking time to talk to us about our stay and then brought an issue to our attention which was great because it was a friendly "don't forget..." I suppose it's in the style of customer service really. Rules are rules and the reason it was a bit annoying was that we go out of our way to make sure we follow rules, especially when reminded. Application was just off.

Whilst we didn't make use of the pizza van that visits the site on a Saturday, we had plans to eat in town, it's a brilliant idea and the food smelt lush! It is well worth booking in advance because there were some disappointed hungry campers.

We would visit again but only if other sites were booked up.

Sorry that a member of our team came across as officious when explaining the rules to you - it was not their intention. I'm glad you liked the site, thought the grounds were well kept and the shop was very well stocked. A new facilities block is currently awaiting planning approval from the council, which we are hoping to begin building when we close this season. It's good to also hear that you enjoyed the river-boat cruise into York from our camspite.

great site and staff, lovley plots and well laid out, adult area is set back from family side so if you want peace and quiet its great. slight noise from motorbikes racing down the main road to nothing to bad. toilet shower block needs updating only 6 showers for the size of site not enough and can do with updating to be honest, not a issue if use own van. shop well stocked and lock itself only a short walk down path.

Thanks for staying here. I'm glad you thought the site is excellent, the staff were great and the pitches well laid out. We have submitted plans to the local council to replace the existing shower block with a new block, and are hoping to have it ready for next season. I'm glad you found our shop to be well stocked, and enjoyed the locks. Hope to see you again soon.

Great location, friendly staff, clean facilities. Pizzas on site on a Sat eve - great idea. The locks and walk/cycle to the Marina for lunch was lovely.

There's a house that sells free range eggs by the lock and a cute cafe too.

Local buses to York and back are cheap but just be aware that times change (there's an app you can download for current times).

Will revisit for sure.

We visited this site the week following the Jubile Weekend. We arrived after 5pm but we were sent the details to access the site and pitch number. We were allocated pitch 8. Please be aware that this pitch is convenient for the ammenaties but is right next to the Site Service Compound.
When we walked the site on the Monday morning it appeared to be tired. grass was not cut in parts, hard standings had weeds on them and some of the hedges were overgrown.
Every morning the bin collection service starts from the Service compound and yes that is right next to our pitch. We were unable to use the grass adjacent to the pitch because of it being small and on the road verge.
Duiring the week the ground staff did carry out a significant amount of work to spruse up the site. Sham it wasn't done before hand.
We offered the staff advice that pehaps pitch 8 would be best left empty but that was not best recieved.
Overall the site was clean, facilities good just a shame the place looked tired on our arrival

I'm pleased to hear you found the site to be clean and the facilities good. The grass was cut 3 days before you arrived, and when we came to see you in the morning after your late arrival we asked if you would like it to be cut but you said no, it was fine. It is a shame you have now complained that it was not cut. The pitch that you were on is popular with guests as it is close to the amenities, and we have never had anyone tell us they were unable to use the grass part of their pitch - it is approx 8m deep by 3m wide. Had you asked to be on a different pitch we could have moved you, but you didn't mention anything of the sort until 5 days after your arrival. It is very much a surprise that you said 'the place looked tired' when you arrived. Our groundskeeping team are out every day to tend to the 30 acres of pitches, dog exercise fields and riverside walks and we pride ourselves in keeping the site in tip top condition.

Stayed for a week at this fabulous site. We were in the adult only section, good sized pitches and was able to talked advantage of the fully serviced option. The shower/toilet block was a bit dated but spotlessly clean. The owner is investing in the site and intends to create a 5 star facility (he has another site nearby which is up to this standard). Site staff are lovely and really helpful.

The site is great for York either by bus from just outside the site, waterbus or park and ride.

There is a pub within a 10 minute walk which serves food - apparently very good.

There is Pizza van on Saturday evening which is amazing - best pizza I’ve ever tasted and at a very reasonable price. You can pre book by phone which i would recommend (details in the site shop) we got back to the site at 5.30 and managed to get the next to last available slot 7:40!

This is the cleanest and most well kept site we have visited. The warden guided us to our pitch and gave us all the info we needed for our riverboat cruise to York the next morning.
The Wardens are fantastic and look after your pitch, high winds whilst we were in York and upon our return the warden popped down to inform us that our airbeam pod had bent over backwards in the high winds and she nearly thought she would have to rescue it but was impressed with it's resilience.
Local pub 15 mins walk away and on the Saturday night a visiting pizza van.
All in all a top weekend away.
Highly recommend 👌
