An award winning campsite. York’s Naburn Lock Countryside Caravan Park is a big hit with Grown-Ups. The 30 acre Naburn Lock Caravan Park is a very popular AA4 Gold Pennant Caravan Park. It attracts guests from all over the U.K. and Europe. Naburn Lock is a particularly attractive point along the River Ouse, just four miles south of the city. Its location, in a local area of outstanding natural beauty is adjacent to the river and surrounded by flowering water meadows. This makes it a truly special place for walkers, cyclists, fishermen and tourists.

York Naburn Lock Caravan Park has become a real hit with grown-ups wanting to tour Yorkshire, walk the riverbank, cycle or fish on the park’s own private waters. The park is exclusively for adults and is part of the prestigious Tranquil Parks group, a group of some of the top adult only touring parks in the country. The site has been completely re-landscaped with all new pitches laid to accommodate the larger style of caravans and motorhomes in use today. The park retains its ‘paddock’ layout with hedges separating each group of 8–10 pitches. New electrics have been installed throughout the park and many of its 115 pitches are now fully-serviced. These have fresh water tap and grey waste drain in addition to electric hook-up from the new lighted services bollards.

Guest’s four-legged companions have not been overlooked. 10 acres of meadow are retained as pet exercise fields. Further developments are already afoot. the site has submitted plans to rebuild the facilities building as soon as permitted. The existing facilities building is deceptive though. Its unassuming exterior opens to a toasty warm, scrupulously clean, interior. Everything is functional and there’s no shortage of hot water at any time of day or night. The park’s campsite shop is well stocked with food, drinks, alcohol and camping accessories.

Naburn Village boasts a very fine Inn and restaurant within walking distance, though the nearest shop is York Retail Outlet, five minutes’ drive towards the city. The Retail Outlet is one of York’s premier retail locations and is a P+R terminus for the city centre. York is a fabulous city to visit at any time of the year and the park is blessed with a regular bus service from the park gate. Aside from road buses, the York River Bus service operates from Naburn Lock Wharf on Saturdays and Sundays through the main season with additional sailings during school holidays. For more active guests, there is Sustrans65 cycle route into York which guests can join in Naburn Village, a mile from the park. The park’s website also provides a guide to walking into the city via the former Naburn–Ouse railbridge.

For many guests, Naburn Lock is the reason to book at the caravan park. The complex comprises an impressive tidal weir, river island and two massive ship locks, constructed in 1757 to provide navigation for barges and ships to York City. One of the locks remains operational for leisure craft. It is pure delight to sit on the island watching the natural world go by. Keep your eyes peeled for the multitude of wild life and birds. Even the occasional inquisitive seal visiting from the River Humber. Meanwhile the park’s six fishing pegs are available below the weir. The location is good for bream carp and perch while , salmon landings are common in season.

The location is great for its proximity to York centre and the designer outlet. In my opinion, it needs some work. The shower block had some great pros, that it wasn’t a push button shower and they were hot. The cons, this cubicles felt like they were design for school kids. I’m not a large bloke but have broad shoulders and I had literally hardly any room to shower without either hitting the tap off or knocking it to too hot or too cold. They are way to narrow. The whole block is reminiscent of a school bathroom. I know we’re we’re off season but 120 pitches and only 4 showers on the men’s seems a bit stingy. Factoring the time of year it was November there are no finished roads on site just a load of gravel. No real lights at in the dark to guide you to the showers block from your pitch. The shop seemed really well stocked but a little pricey. Both ladies on site seemed friendly enough.

Hello Louis. Thenk you for staying at our site. I'm glad you found the location was great for visiting York and the Designer Outlet. It's good to hear you liked the fact that our showers aren't 'push button' and you had plenty of hot water. I'm sorry that you found the cubicles to be on the small side - we are going to buikd a new shower block as soon as the council approves our planning application. We wish you all the best, and hope to see you again sometime.

This is a fabulous site an easy bus ride away from York. The bottom half of the site was flooded, however we were given a free upgrade to one of the fully serviced ptiches at the top of pf the site, which were well away from the water. Fantastic service from the owners, excellent check in process. The on-site shop is extremely well stocked, with good quality souvenir camping related gifts and everything from eggs to gas. Although the weather was really wet, the well maintained site had very little mud. Looking forward to returning.

We had booked to stay here for a few nights, and unfortunately the area had some flooding. The campsite emailed and asked us to call before we set off so they could keep us in the picture as to what's happening. On the day of arrival we called the site, we were put in the loop, the extent of the flooding, to which half the site was currently under water, but they have some higher hard standing pitches and the facilities were all open. We were given the option of cancelling, or rescheduling, or we could still visit, the flood water was going down , no more heavy rain forecasted ,but obviously they couldn't guarantee no further flooding. We decided to still visit. The site was lovely, the hosts are so welcoming and friendly, and so helpful. The toilet blocks are clean with good showers. The bus to York stops right outside the site. There is also a cycle path and walk into York from the site, but this was obviously under water. The dogs also had a lovely time here, and we can't wait to return again.

Totally agree with the other review! So glad to read it and realise the staff had nt just taken a dislike to us. Tried to get tickets for the river cruise. The old guy In The shop was so unhelpful. I didn’t realise you bought them online . But a grunt and a point to a leaflet sorted that out- Didn’t go back in shop as put me off , there is an Aldi near by for groceries instead They got all our money whilst we were there !

I'm sorry that when you tried to buy tickets for the river cruise, you felt that you were made to feel 'disliked' - that was certainly not his intention, and obviously a misunderstanding. The river cruise tickets are bought online, but I'm glad we were able to advise you of this so that you could make a purchase on their website. You were also shown the leaflet for the cruises, that details times, prices & further information. I am saddened that this one misunderstanding has led you to leave such a bad review about the campsite as a whole. The vast majority of our reviews mention how polite, friendly and helpful our staff are :)

Rude warden -older lady with long grey hair in reception using sarcasm when any question asked- my wife was so shocked and felt belittled Asked a question about the bus was spoken to like a child because she didn’t think to take a photo of the timetable People on pitch next door said she was rude to them when they asked for takeaway menus, as they hadn’t spotted them in the display Get your act together Tranquil parks - your other two sites we visited this year, the wardens were so nice. We came here after visiting the lock and tea room. Heard negative things but wanted to try Toilets functional but not great for the price paid Sanitary bins not the ones required by environmental health ( not sealed units)

Hello 'Softs23'. I'm sorry that you mistook a staff members helpful and polite suggestions for sarcasm - this is simply not the case. The staff member in question was merely recommended that you take a photo of the bus timetable, as the timetabes that the bus company leave in our shop are hard to understand. I would not class this suggestion as sarcasm, and it certainly does not in any way mean you were treated like a child or belittled. Because of this misunderstanding, I'm saddened that you felt the need to leave a 1 star review - the 'older lady with long grey hair' that you refer to is very upset by your remarks, and having known her for several years now, what you say about her could not be further from the truth - she is a warm and friendly person, who is always polite and professional.

Our 2nd stay here in our own caravan, we were not disappointed. Friendly and helpful staff, wonderful walks & cycle paths on the doorstep. Lots to see in the local area, including the city of York. You can walk, cycle, boat or bus into York. Bus stop is right outside the site. 1 negative is that this was a bank holiday break and despite the showers and toilets being very clean, the showers could not deal with the site being full so the showers were luke warm at best and the water pressure was just a trickle.

Thank you for staying here. It'd great to know you found the staff to be friendly & helpful, and loved the local area, walks, cycle routes and bus to York. I'm sorry that the water pressure was low at the weekend - the pressure in the village & local area has been low on occasion recently. When we build our new facilities block, we are installing our own pressurised underground tanks to fix this. We hope to see you again sometime :)

Booked to stay here for a week, its an adults only tranquil park, its a big site, we were sited in the south meadow pitch 109 hard standing & fully serviced only a couple of other vans in i think a couple were seasonal. Lovely shower block nice and clean although some people didnt bother to mop their shower after use which is annoying. Lovely shop stocking basics and gifts which i purchased a few of, they also stock a few caravan supplies. Cafe down by the locks but we didnt use it, couple of dog walking areas on site, laundry with 2 washers and 2 dryers £1 for 15 mins which i used a few times. There is a bus stop outside the park but we didnt use it as they only run every 2 hours we used the park and ride which is 5 minutes up the road lots of parking spaces and buses run every 12 mins brilliant service i recommend it, there is a river bus down the road at the end of the site which runs Thursdays Saturdays and sunday ( not sure about weekend think thats right) we pre booked this for the thursday it was a lovely trip down the river ouse into york it leaves at 9.30am and picks you up at 4pm, well worth using its £15 return. Staff lovely and friendly we had no issues as previously mentioned. Only 2 niggles about our visit next time we would book onto the main site ( we booked last minuite and didnt really have a choice we were lucky to get a place so no fault of staff) as the south meadow has a noisy road behind which is ok between midnight and 5am its fine in the day but being a light sleeper i wasnt keen, the other niggle the path between the meadow and the main site needs better lighting i used the toilet at night and it was dark at 9pm it was a bit creepy on my own i had a torch but i still felt nervous as there is no main barrier at the entrance and the lock gate is open so anyone could drive in. I would definitely return here ideally placed for york and surrounding area :)
