Stayed here with my partner for 1 night for a midweek break (Tues-Weds) and the hotel was brilliant. The price and location was what initially drew me to it, but then reading previous reviews, helped me make my decision & they aren’t wrong. The hotel is in a brilliant location, easy walking distance to all the main attractions like the Minster and Shambles. Surrounded by lots of food and drink places to use as well. We parked on the NCP which is about right across the way from the hotel and when we checked in we were given a discount on the carparking. We used the hotel’s breakfast facilities and we were impressed, quick table service & Dave who looked after us was brilliant, checking that we had everything we needed and was quick with service. Normal breakfast services available, such a cooked breakfast & continental but it’s all table service instead of help yourself. The rooms were a decent size, big enough for the 2 of us. The room was a family room, but if you had anymore than 3 people you’d probably struggle for space, especially if the pull out bed is out. But normal Travelodge style, comfy bed, pillows and minimal noise from the main road outside the hotel. Highly recommend this hotel for anybody looking to at in York, especially if you can get it at the price I did, £30 for 1 night!

I have stayed at the York Micklegate Travelodge on several occasions in the past for business and pleasure. We arrive one hour before the 2pm official check in time, expecting to leave our cases if our room wasn't ready. The very pleasant and cheerful receptionist said our room was actually now ready, but to check in early would cost £10! It was pouring with rain and we were told we couldn't leave our cases in the hotel because of Covid. How strange? Not to be forced into paying, we went off for lunch nearby with our cases in tow. I have never in all my life been asked to pay for an early check in. This also meant that the next day, after checking out, we were stuck with our cases for the day, in a busy city. Either that or pay for another night in the hotel. Not at all what I have ever experienced before in any hotel anywhere in the world. Luckily we found a luggage holding company in the city, Yorbag,, who found an amazing and clever solution to Covid issues by simply disinfecting the handles of the cases and putting them in a room for us all day for £3 per case, which actually saved our day as our train was not for another 5 hours. I sincerely believe that Travelodge could be much more accommodating, and that charging extra to guests during this time is unbelievable. We are helping businesses by continuing to travel and use their hotels, and do not expect to be penalised for doing so. I have always left my case in the luggage room at this hotel pre Covid.

In our room there was a carrier bag under the shelf in the wardrobe that did not belong to us. I feel this is a security issue and also shows that the extra thorough cleaning of rooms due to Covid is perhaps not as thorough as it could be. I won't be using Travelodge again unfortunately. There is a huge choice of hotels in every city. I totally understand that the safety of staff and guests is important, but I feel that this is an unecessary rule for a city hotel, which leaves guests with the option of paying extra to Travelodge or being very inconvenienced. I'd like to add that the reception staff were lovely and obviously it is not their fault that they have to follow these policies.

I stayed here for three nights in January a quiet time in a super room not my choice it was all they had left not sure there’s actually any difference between it and a standard room. I choice this hotel solely because of the price and location which could not be more perfect 5 mins you’re in the city centre and 10 minutes from station perfect if you’re travelling there by train as I did, although there is no onsite parking not a problem for me. Check out is conveniently later than standard at 12 late check out end early check in can be purchased for an extra £10. Very cheekily WiFi is chargeable at £3 a day and is not very good maybe my room was just badly located for it. Occupied rooms are not cleaned on a daily basis they just replenish towels and tea tray by request. Hairdryers and ironing boards are provided although no toiletries just a pump soap on the wall non-slip rubber bath mats are also not provided so be careful as the bathroom floor gets very wet when showering. I did not have breakfast here but I’m sure it’s everything you would expect it to be, evening meals although I very limited menu are also available.

Having stayed at this travel lodge last September and were quite happy we thought we would stay this September big mistake. What a difference a year makes.
The carpets in the corridors were stained and filthy the room carpets were not much better the seat at the writing desk was that bad we could sit on it and this was supposed to be a supper room.
There was a sanitiser station positioned outside the lift and one at the reception both were empty from the day we arrived till the day we left the only sanitiser was a small bottle on the reception desk.
We payed for breakfast the first morning £8.75 each arrived about 9.00 only to find no fruit cocktail left the scramble egg could only be described as rubber that was never replenished the baked beans you had to lift the pot out to scrape what was left.
During the breakfast my fruit juice glass which was half full was lifted while i was still seating and the server removed the sauces to stock them up. The rest of our stay went for breakfast at a place called Baileys opposite the park entrance £6.25 including toast
The only reason I gave two stars is one the location and two the bed was comfortable (think was new)
Unfortunately will not stay in this Travel lodge again when visiting York.

I stayed here in September 2021. The lady on reception was India, and she was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and local knowledge. I had a TravelodgePlus room on the 3rd floor. The bed was luxuriously comfortable. The addition of a power shower was fantastic and I loved the massage-like high power setting. With the Plus rooms you get a Lavazza coffee machine, Galaxy hot chocolate and KitKats (a nice touch as they are produced in York). The only downside was that the shower (although large) had a curtain rather than a glass panel. Also, if you want a quiet night avoid room 333 which is located opposite "Popworld" the local club which stays open until 3am daily. Ear plugs and putting the fan on were sufficient to cancel the noise. Having said that the location was great for an easy walk into the City and it is conveniently close to York Minster and all the other tourist sites.

Stayed here for two nights (6&7th March). The hotel is clean and overall good value for money with staff who are polite, friendly and happy to help. We booked a super room which was worth the extra for the extra space and better bathroom.

Unfortunately, the beds are no more comfortable than the standard rooms. Both my partner and myself suffered afterwards from the ridiculous hardness of these beds, and yes I mean hard, not firm. I felt as though I was lying on a plank of wood and could not wait to get back to my own bed.

My only gripe with the cleanliness was that despite the newness of the room we stayed in, there were some very noticeable stains to the carpet that probably could have been easily cleaned up prior to our arrival.

The Lavazza coffee machine was a nice touch despite not using it due to only being supplied with 2 pod of coffee for 2 people for 2 nights and both of which were decaffinated.

The hotel is very central to the city centre & just a 10 minute walk from the Minster (which we had a view of from our room).

We would stay here again if only for one night, however any longer than that & I’m not sure either my partners or my own back would survive the torture of the apparent ‘dreamsleepers’.

Great location and good price for a few days break in York. I arrived by train and so had none of the parking problems that others have had and no more than 10 minutes walk from the station.
The hotel felt more upmarket than some of the older very basic Travelodges I have stayed in. The staff at reception were very friendly. The super room was great as they have been in other locations. I won’t stay in a Travelodge that doesn’t offer super rooms as I find standard rooms far too basic with no storage space for smaller clothing items. I didn’t have breakfast as I wanted to sample some of the York eating places for breakfast including Betty’s.
The only thing that stopped me giving this hotel 5 stars was the noise from the street during the night. Perhaps I’m just not used to it as I live in a village but I just can’t understand why so many people, should be walking along the street outside at 3 or 4 am shouting and screaming and midweek too. I was on the top floor so I would not like to think how much worse it would be lower down nearer street level.

Hotel is situated close to city centre, we were advised that a car park was close by which we eventually found it is quite well hidden. Check in was fine and given room 232 but it was a dark room overlooking the air con units, we were told couldn’t move as they were full, but managed to get a new room the next day. This time facing the front main road although the traffic noise didn’t bother us might be something to consider. Our room didn’t have a duvet on the bed we were supplied with one when we asked and even a cover for it! But in the 3days we stayed in that room no one came in the make the bed, change the towels, empty the bin or replenish the tea/coffee. Every time we passed through reception it seemed deserted !
We tried breakfast one day but not a good experience. Cooked food served to table after two spoonfuls of cereal so cold by the time I came to eat it, the server didn’t tell us of other options available, or offer refills of drinks

Stayed in a 'SuperRoom' - only slight difference in price with only real difference being that a coffee machine is provided in the room. Bed was OK for comfort. Room decent size. Small TV.

Lots of hairs in the shower tray. Remote control for TV was very dirty - probably never been cleaned.

Our room was overlooking the main road and we were woken by passing traffic and noisy groups passing a few times. However in fairness it does state on the hotel website that as it is a city centre hotel that some external noise may be heard. Hotel room walls are quite thin though, we could hear next doors conversation and strangely we were woken by a dog barking in the hotel corridor in the early morning!!

The location of the Travelodge was good, only 5 minutes walk to get into city centre.

Advised by the hotel to park in the Tanner Street NCP car park around the corner which was £26 for 24 hours. The hotel offers a 33% discount on this price if you present your car park ticket on check in, however it's still very expensive. We only stayed one night but were planning on staying over 24 hours in the car park as we wanted to stay for lunch after check out. The staff at the hotel didn't know how much it would be if you stayed over 24 hours despite directing customers to this car park. In the end we just stayed just short of 24 hours.

Overall a good location. Great price however as it is a budget hotel - you get what you pay for.

The welcome was great, very helpful staff. The location is perfect for exploring the city, and the rooms are typical of this type of chain. On the down side the bar is closed due to Covid rules, and as with all city Center hotels some guests aren’t very thoughtful at 2am when coming back in from the city bars, but again that is typical.
Caution, the NCP car park nearby is not good, it’s very expensive and the spaces are tight even for a small car, avoid if possible

The car parking is about 2 minutes walk from the hotel, if you let the hotel know they will give you a voucher to receive 25% off, we got our overnight parking for £16, well worth it. We had tea and coffee making facilities in our room

are both beds in the twin rooms standard size
Answer from Ivvy M
We stayed in a double room so cant answer your question sadly. I would imagine that they are. Top tip, make sure you dont get a room next to the night club next door. Its an old church that is now converted. Fortunately the reception staff warned us and put us in a quiet room. Dont ever consider staying in the York Travelodge in Piccadilly (next to the Wetherspoons). It is absolutely dirty with rotten threadbare carpets filthy carpets . The rooms are about 100degrees and cant open the window because of the noise from wetherspoons. Dont believe the advise that they close the beer garden at 11pm beccause the noise goes on until well after 12pm and even then they leave all the doors to the pub open so defeats the object.

We parked at the Q-parks in the shambles, paid for 24hrs and just walked to the hotel from there, we found this helpful as we took the bag back to the car in the morning and we were in the perfect location to browse the shops and didn't have to worry about finding extra parking in the morning.
