Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The staff were all friendly and really accommodating, big shout out to Christopher, Simon and both Chloe’s! Room was spot on and clean, although there was traffic at night it didn’t impact us at all and was expected as York is a busy city. Bonus that room was ready early and carpark at rear was free. Breakfast every morning was fresh cooked to order and gorgeous. Amazing location as it’s just outside city walls and everything is within a one mile radius, bars and cafes within 5 minutes walk. Can’t wait to return xx

Fantastic gastro pub close to the City Wall and a level walk to the bottom of Te Shambles. The rooms are comfortable and clean with King Size bed, shower over bath. One flight of steps up to the rooms. Great breakfast to set you up for your day. They have a very good lunch and dinner menu. The pub has a good atmosphere. Chris on front of house will look after you as will the rest of the staff. Free WiFi. They have a nice outdoor area including a free to use car park at the rear. Will definitely stay here next time we are in York

Room Tip: Room 5 looks over the car park. The other 4 rooms are front facing on to the road.

A fabulous traditional British pub perfectly situated for exploring York. Just a ten minute walk to the Shambles but it will take longer because of all the distractions en route. Good wholesome food and the “Best Pies in York” tag is not unwarranted. Rooms are a little tired and quite noisy on the front but don’t let that put you off. Staff were excellent, breakfast delicious and a large car park which is a bonus. Will definitely stay again when visiting York.

The Rose and Crown is a traditional old pub in a fabulous location for exploring the city. Dinner and breakfast were excellent, fabulous pies. Rooms a bit tired and quite noisy on the front. Great staff and service. Large car park which is always a bonus. Will definitely book again when returning to York.

This pub is a true jewel in yorks crown it’s a little gem we stayed in room three it’s small but for one night it didn’t matter it was clean and had all the facilities needed it is at the top of a steep staircase but it’s not too bad. The pub is beautiful with lovely tiling and decor it has a main bar and two snug rooms. The food is nothing more than amazing good menu choice I didn’t try their famous pies but they look amazing. Breakfast was again amazing food and easily organised. The carpark is a massive help as parking in York isn’t easy it’s a short walk to the shambles and the minister which I recommend you visit both early and you have to pre book. I am planning to stay there again next year.

A lovely pub B&B. A good sized room, immaculately clean towels, bedclothes and the room itself. TV, good WiFi, tea and coffee. Nice local pub atmosphere, beer garden at the rear and very good meals. Breakfast, choice of cereals followed by Full English for myself. Bacon, fried eggs, black pudding, baked beans, sausage, toast, tea or coffee and juice. Freshly prepared really tasty. Other choices Eggs Florantine, eggs Benedict, vegetarian options, good choices. Parking on site and as we stayed two nights with a full day in York leaving the car there and walking into the city was very convenient. A very comfortable stay.

Brilliant find. Lovely traditional pub, good food and comfortable room . Walking distance into York with the added bonus of on site parking. Staff extremely friendly. Included breakfast excellent. Very good value. The only down side is that our room facing the main road was quite noisy. We will definitely return but ask for a room at the back of the building.

Booked for lunch with family. Very friendly staff. Great choice on menu. Five of us opted for pies, ham and black pudding, steak, and cheese and leek and they were all really good accompanied by amazing chips. Best pie I’ve had for ages! The fish and chips and burger were also fab. Would definitely recommend and will certainly go back.

Traditional pub offering B&B. Great food, the fish finger sandwich is amazing. And traditional cooked English breakfast was very good. Room clean and space with a bath and shower in the on suite. Bed could do with an upgraded mattress. Parking available on site. 20 minutes walk from the city centre.
