Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is fantastic, rooms are so clean soft beds, pillows all top quality. Bathroom with luxury products and mind blowing towels. Breakfast was on an other level such selection and homemade breads 3 different kinds toasted to you liking. Danny was brilliant from start to finish could not be more helpful and so kind but all staff were polite and helpful could not do enough for you. Came for my wife birthday and lovely little slate tile welcome note with lemon cake such a nice touch. I can’t speak highly enough about this place can’t believe not fully booked all time as so good but glad we could get in and will definitely back 😎

It was an amazing experience visiting York, and the guesthouse was a major contributing factor. The room was lovely, clean and we loved the little detail. A booklet with all the advice one needs to have a pleasant stay in York and the couple running it was absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough for us. The bed was very comfortable, the room was warm, very clean and the breakfast was fantastic. We could feel the passion and dedication the guesthouse was run with and we will definitely stay there again, should we visit York again. The price included the breakfast and parking, so it was very reasonably priced. Thank you for making our stay pleasant. We felt appreciated and left with a smile.

St Raphaels is a very well run Guest house by Husband and wife Fran and Jamie. It is ideally situated for the minster ,Shambles , Christmas market and other major attractions. We arrived at York by train and it is just 15 mins walk from the station. The room (Snickelways) was clean nicely furnished with comfortable bed and nice shower. There is tea coffee supplied . The Breakfast is really good , the continental selection continually replenished and a good full english freshly cooked. There are also three types of fresh homemade bread available. A nice touch is the menu for breakfast in reception from which you make yor selection for the following morning. We would thoroughly recommend for your stay in York.

Fantastic few days stay, the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, would highly recommend. Just a 5 minute walk from York city centre makes it the perfect base for exploring. Breakfast was very nice.

Great team run this house and so friendly and accommodating, our arrival was friendly and breakfast was really tasty and catered for coeliacs which in itself great for a small/medium guest house. Everywhere was clean and we will definitely return but hopefully to one of the larger rooms. If you’re a light sleeper ask for the top floor as the floor boards creak but that’s only to be expected of an old building. Danny the manager even recommended a couple of restaurants which were very nice. Had a great stay and about a 10 min stroll into York so ideally placed.

Fabulous four night stay at St Raphael. You are made welcome by Fran, Danny and all the wonderful staff. Home made banana bread awaits you in your room. You wake in the morning to the aroma of freshly baked bread floating up the stairs. A varied breakfast menu, all of which are delicious 😋. We visit York regularly and wouldn't stay anywhere else. See you again soon!

I stayed here with my mum for a night away. The guest house is very clean and inviting and well run. Fran and Danny are very hospitable and friendly and the breakfast was excellent. It’s a short walk from the station and close to the city centre. I would definitely stay again.
