This was the seventh and last time I brought my American undergraduates to the Alcuin Lodge before I retired and returned to live in the UK. It was absolutely lovely as always despite the then very necessary COVID restrictions. My students loved the comfort of the rooms, the warm friendliness of Darren and Mark and especially of course the first-class breakfasts. I sent an enquiry to the Alcuin Lodge about availability. I got a very pleasant email from Darren explaining that they have some renovation work planned for the time of our visit, and could not commit to bookings in that time frame. I appreciated the quick turnaround and the kind tenor of the note.

Alcuin Lodge is ideal if you’re looking for a centrally located place to stay in York. We were greeted by the host Darren who is friendly, professional, and has a very good knowledge of ‘all things York’. The room and the house in general was very pleasant and clean, and the breakfast was lovely (especially the sausages!). As an added bonus, home baked treats we’re provided on both days, to complement the tea and coffee in the room. We would recommend Alcuin Lodge.

We enjoyed a lovely stay at Alcuin. The B&B is spotlessly clean, every guest need is considered. We were very appreciative of the hosts’ attention to health and safety precautions. In addition, Darren had very helpful suggestions on area attractions and dining options. Parking is provided, key in this busy town. We highly recommend.

We're not sure how many times we have now stayed at Alcuin Lodge but we wouldn't stay anywhere else. It is in a perfect place for visiting the city, close to amenities, river park etc. but very quiet. Lovely room, always spotlessly clean and excellent breakfast. Darren is a great host, always ready to offer advice on things to do or places to eat in York. We will certainly be back.

Excellent b&b just a short walk from the centre of York. Spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable and free on-street parking - what more could you want. Darren was an excellent host, the breakfasts were lovely and the daily home baked treats left in the room were a nice touch. Would definitely recommend.

Stayed here recently for 2 nights. Darren very helpful. private parking outside which is ideal. Whole place very clean, lovely room, lovely breakfast, great location. Would highly recommend. 5 out of 5
