This was the smallest family room, with the smallest beds I have ever seen. There were four of us in the room, 2 adults and 2 children, and it was ridiculously cramped. The sofa bed touched the double bed, which almost touched the wall, leaving a narrow path only wide enough for one person to walk around the beds. Add in four suitcases and it was ridiculous. There were only two glasses, 2 mugs, and one dirty teaspoon in the room. I went down to reception to ask for another couple of teaspoons, explaining that there was only one dirty one in the room, and the receptionist didn't even apologise. Clearly these hotels aren't set up for families. They either need to have some bigger, or even adjoining rooms, or stop advertising and taking family bookings.

When we arrived to check in the lift was out of order and had to struggle up the stairs, no offer of help from the staff. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. We had breakfast across the road at Weatherspoons. The hotels location was excellent for the town centre.

Lovely large room, staff were very friendly. Short walk to centre situated in quiet street. Wetherspoons close by if you want a cheap meal. I opted to eat in the hotel, plenty of choice on menu. Would stay there again.

We had a great time staying when we visited York, the hotel is small but cosy, located in a quiet street about a 10 minute walk to the city centre. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the breakfast buffet is very good, the staff are wonderful, nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to ensure we had a lovely stay, especially Jade at reception. We will definitely be staying here again 😁

We stayed here last Sat night. We had made the booking at the beginning of August so got a ‘deal’ that included breakfast. Although I still think it was expensive at £182 for one night. The room was clean and pleasant. It had a double bed, with 4 large pillows. A square glass shelf each side, rather than bed side cabinets. There didn’t appear to be a clock, but we had taken a travelling clock with us, so it didn’t matter. There was a wall mounted TV facing the bed. The desk unit had a lamp and phone, coffee machine with 4 coffee capsules. There was 2 USB sockets, along with spare standard UK 3 pin sockets. The desk base unit housed a kettle with instant coffee, tea bags, sugar and 6 individual semi skimmed milk pots. There was a chair with the desk, as well as a large sofa. What appeared to be a tall wardrobe was actually sub divided into compartments. There was 7 clothes hangers, but very restricted hanging length, because the Safe was in the way. The cupboard also contained a small ironing board with iron. One of the lower drawers contained the hairdryer. There was however 3 wall pegs in the ‘hall’ area, which allowed coats to be hung up. Useful if you’re arrived in the rain. Pity they were placed above the full length mirror! The shower room was clean and attractive. The large shower with a fixed detergent dispenser on the wall. The shower control bar was straightforward to use. The left hand end is turned away from you, to turn the water on. While the right hand end increase the water temperature when turned away from you. The wash hand basin was fitted into a long attractive top, with a full width wall mirror above it. There was an individual sized bottle of shampoo /conditioner, and hand/body lotion. There was no hand wash dispenser, but instead a tiny tablet of soap. There was 2 large towels and 2 hand towels. There was free WiFi which only needed ones email address, to down load messages. The hotel restaurant is only used for breakfast. There was a good choice of both hot and cold food, all self service, apart from the tea and coffee, which the staff serve to your table. There’s certainly no excuse to go away hungry! Food is available during the day, from the bar. Looking at the menu in our room, there was a good choice of starters. The main meals consisted of 2 different pizzas, steak, ale and mushroom pudding, burger and 2 vegetarian meals. There’s also 4 kids meals and 4 desserts. The prices looked average. Rather than eating in the bar, we decided to take a walk into town and ate out for our evening meal. Our main problem with the hotel was car parking. We didn’t realise that this hotel doesn’t have its own car park. We only discovered this after driving around the block, getting into a panic, trying to find it. We eventually parked ( illegally) outside the hotel and I dashed into reception to ask where the car park was. I was told to find the Q Park at the Barbican and given a small map. Although this was only 5 mins walk away, actually driving there, on a busy Sat afternoon was stressful, as we don’t know this area and got stuck in the wrong lane. Also carrying our suitcase and other belongings, between the hotel and public car park was inconvenient, especially as we are in our 70s. On entry to the Q car park, The barrier control machine instructed us to show our contactless credit card to raise the barrier. After doing this, we were NOT issued with a ticket and couldn’t find anyone to ask. I’m still not sure how we would have driven into the car park, without using our credit card. The machine was very misleading. We later found an alternative ticket machine inside. Had we used this one when we first arrived, we could then have used the ‘ hotel discount’ card that we were LATER given from the hotel Reception. I believe we would have saved 10 to 20% of the extortionate £14 parking fee that we ended up being charged. This is the fee for 24 hrs parking. We were parked for under 18 hrs. We will certainly double check that future hotels definitely have their own free car park, adjoining the hotel and avoid ones that don’t.

Is there parking at this hotel
Thank you for your question! Whilst the Holiday Inn does not have it's own parking, there is plenty of paid parking in the area surrounding the hotel at an average price of £8 - £9 for a 24 hour stay. I hope this helps. Kind regards Jade W Front Office Manager
