Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Staff were lovely and very friendly. Breakfast good and housekeeping good. Shame that the hotel style felt more like an HI express or travel lodge. Family room was tiny- the sofa bed was wedged against the main bed with no room to move around it. The room often shook with what I can only describe as a feeling of turbulence and I don't know if it was the wind, or other guests walking about! All felt a bit cheap and not the usual HI standard of room or building. Location was good for walking to town.

Location is perfect for York Centre, literally 5 minutes walk. Clean hotel with very nice polite staff. We didn't have breakfast as it seemed very over priced, especially as there was 4 of us, plenty of cafes nearby where you can go out. No car park, so we used the car park behind the hotel on Peel St.

We reserved a Premium Room at the Holiday Inn York City Centre, an IHG Hotel, which included two single beds and one double sofa bed. The hotel is located on the edge of the city, just a 10 to 15-minute walk from the centre.Although the rooms were comfortable, they were not fully cleaned and appeared a little dusty. Noise from neighbouring rooms and the hallway was audible. Although the rooms were comfortable, they were not fully cleaned and appeared a little dusty. Despite this, they were satisfactory. This hotel is ideal for a city break or a business trip to York. It may not be luxurious or visually stunning, but it is a practical and comfortable accommodation option.

I wouldn't have gave any stars at all. We had the worst sleep in a very long time.. The room itself was booked as a family room and was very small and cramped, it is my fault for not realising before hand, but there was no bath and just a shower. You would think that all family rooms should have baths or offer rooms with baths as having young children. However, the main reason we will not be returning is the lack of sleep. The pillows and beds were so uncomfortable. My husband went down to reception to ask for other pillows, to be told 'they are all sold out'. Since when do you pay for pillows in a hotel?. The children in the rooms next to us, and above was running around very late, opening and slamming doors, running down the corridor, which I understand is not the hotels fault. However, the walls are very thin. Car parking was also an issue here for us because the nearest peel car park was full, so parked at the next recommended by the hotel which was the Q car park. Not ideal with young children, buggy and cases. The hotel appeared clean but that was our only positive. We will stick to premier inns.

The first time I have ever given IHG a negative review. Scruffy, supercilious male on reception was incredibly patronising to the three ladies ahead of me. Female who checked us in was fine. Requested an adapted room. Allocated one with the smallest double bed I have ever had the misfortune to attempt to sleep on. The bathroom was in desperate need of a deep clean and redecoration. For periods of the two out of the three days we stayed there was no water and no offer of even a bottle to drink. I really cannot understand how this hotel was allocated 4*. We would have been better to stay in the Travelodge opposite. The rooms there are big, like their beds. York, of course, was as always fantastic!

Spent two nights in a twin room on a bed and breakfast rate. Had a really comfortable stay. Staff were all very helpful and friendly. Quick check in and out process. Breakfast was plentiful. Room very comfortable. Hairdryer could have been better, not very powerful. No fridge in the room. Nice big towels. Toiletries were nice. Hotel itself was very well located to wonder into the city centre. Taxi from station was about £7 by memory. Can’t complain about anything. Would definitely stay again.

York City centre has nowhere to sit any more. The Council have taken away public seating in St. Sampson’s Square, Parliament Street, the old graveyard opposite Cooplands on Davygate all with the aim of renting out space for events. There were no events. Visitors can be constant but events are periodic. I’m of an age where I need to sit for a while then carry on. I am not alone. This is a bday policy penalising those with reducing mobility.

Arrived at lunch time, due to being a club member with IHG I was able to check in early, which was a bonus, the standard rooms are very small, but it was a decent stay for myself and my mum. It would have been good if it had two lifts, both nights we stayed there were big groups with so much luggage, my mum is disabled and isn't able to use the stairs so that would have been useful. All staff wonderful! Rochell was on both days we were there and I have to stay she had an excellent work ethic for being on the front lines, just what the company wants when guests first arrive at the hotel. Food and beverage was excellent, my mum had poached eggs both days and according to her we're eggcelent 😂 Other than hard beds, was a great two night stay.

This is a great hotel with friendly and attentive staff. It might be an extra 5 minute walk from the centre of York, but in our opinion it is worth the walk. The rooms are very comfortable and it is in a quiet area of York. There is a good car park just behind the hotel. A highly recommended hotel.
