This hotel is just off the High Street so is quiet but not isolated. There is a large car park. It's a very old building so there are some steep and twisty stairs but help is offered with carrying cases. My room, Sycamore, was enormous and had no fewer than nine lights so every area was well lit enough to read in comfort. The lighting was even better in the bathroom with a magnifying, lit mirror. Just wonderful once presbyopia has developed for putting in lenses and doing makeup. There was a kettle, teapot, cafetiere, cups, saucers, a Nespresso machine and lovely biscuits. Staff were helpful and efficient and all meals excellent. I intend to return.

Lovely old coaching in style hotel, close to the town centre, with the bonus of a free car park on site. Great greeting form the friendly receptionist. Our bedroom was suprisingly spacious and comfortable with a large ensuite containing a bath and shower. The hotel felt warm during the chiily Sept evenings - the CH already was on!

The bar and public areas are intimate and cosy with a lovely character.

The restaurant is large, ligt and airy and overlooks a terrace.

The evening meal food is expensive. Following our good starters, we waited over an hour for our main course. The "Cotswold glazed young chicken" was just awful. A complete baby chicken that was tough and not all meaty. The "hassleback potaoes" were hard and had no flavour - boiled with skins on. the sides were all at extra cost, so if you want vegetables for example. The waiting staff tried, but were let down by the tardy kitchen. We later laerned that the regular chef was off. Note: "optianal service charge 12.5%" Breakfast wait times were equally long - 35 minutes to deliver two boiled eggs anyone!! if it wasn't for this I would have given the Bay Tree Hotel 5*.

My husband and I got married at The Bay Tree Hotel in December, we had around 60 guests and pretty much everyone stayed over. For anyone considering getting married here I can not recommend the venue and the event team highly enough.

The day ran flawlessly, I didn't have to think of a single thing, they took care of everything down to the tiniest details.  That is probably testament to their fantastic planning and attention to detail.  The food was incredible and piping hot, the venue looked amazing and the breakfast food and layout in the morning was great and a lovely opportunity to spend a bit more time with our guests.

All of the small details made it extra special, the personalised menus (at the tasting, and on the day),the card and chocolates in our room, controlling the music for us and generally accommodating our every request!

All of our guests have commented on how fantastic the venue was, how great their rooms were, how tasty and hot the food was... everyone had the best time!

The entire experience has been so positive, even the menu tasting exceeded our expectations. The package we purchased was great value and it was amazing to be able to hold the entire day in one place and to have complete exclusivity of the venue.

Quintessentially just what you would expect in terms of atmosphere and lovely period features, nooks and crannies, quirky bits, creaking floorboards, open fires, flagstones, etc from an establishment housed in a property that is several hundred years old. On site parking but could be better managed to encourage more thoughtful use. Pleasant welcome and guided to our similarly quirky room with decent en suite with nice range of toiletries and towels, tea/coffee, bottled water, TV and comfy beds. Lighting was rather poor and although we did ask if someone could get the bedside lights to work no-one did through our 2 night stay. Disappointed that we could not get the radiator to turn off either. Breakfast reasonable but very slow service, especially on the first morning. Restaurant staff pleasant and dinner menu pretty good but again very slow service, meagre portions and too expensive. Needs work to provide the experience and value that the inherent charm warrants

Just got back from a 2 night stay at the The Bay Tree Hotel with our dog. I booked with booking.com.
We booked lunch for when we arrived around 2.45 pm we had to eat in the bar if we had our dog which was fine, but when I enquired about the roast we were told that only beef was available. We were served lukewarm meals and my carved beef consisted mainly of thick yellow fat, at no point did anyone enquire as to wether or not we enjoyed our meal. I informed Troy on reception but she didn’t seem to make much comment, except for “ I am sorry about that”!! Shortly after on our way to our room we saw the chef carrying a piping hot dinner with roast pork on the plate, I made a comment about how nice the meal looked and they said yes the pork was delicious unbeknown to them of my experience just prior to this !!
We were allocated “The Old Justice rooms” Not in the main building but across from reception with our own front door and small living room with a curtain across the bedroom which housed a dark wooden carved DOUBLE bed with the most uncomfortable mattress and pillows that you can imagine. This hotel is dog tolerable but not particularly dog friendly you have to keep dogs on lead in gardens. The staff are not allowed to pet your dog because of Covid rules. The best service we had was for breakfast both mornings the staff were excellent as we were in the bar area again with our dog which was fine. The lovely young man gave our dog a sausage.

We stayed here as a couple for two nights in the chestnut room.
The room was really big, spacious and comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and breakfast both days - the food was really good and service was too.
Due to covid you can’t get the room cleaned during your stay which isn’t the hotels fault but does take away from the luxury of being away from home a bit.
The road was really noisy due to the A road being shut (again not the hotels fault) so next time I think I would stay in one of the smaller rooms in the courtyard.
It was pretty mild the weekend we stayed so we did have to ask for all the heating to be switched off as it was extremely warm the first night in our room even with all the windows open.
The hotel is in a great location and the staff were super helpful with recommendations and walking routes etc.
We will be back and really enjoyed our stay

We married at The Bay Tree in July 2019 and hand on heart there is not a single thing (apart from the weather as it rained all day!) that we would change, it was perfect from start to finish.

The Bay Tree is absolutely beautiful and the amazing staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome & special. My husband had a suit disaster on the morning of the wedding and Paf was on hand to help get it cleaned and he even went to the shop to get the best man a newspaper! Literally nothing is too much trouble.

All of the team deserve to be mentioned for their hard work, attention to detail and dedication, in particular Paf (I do not understand when this man gets any rest!) Maureen, Helen & Alba. Thank you all so much for making our wedding day the best day of our lives!

I honestly didn't expect the attention detail (personalised menus during our menu tasting for example) & high levels of service (food served from the guest's right at the same time, all with a nod from Paf) that we received whilst planning and on the wedding day itself - the team had thought of everything. You really can relax and enjoy your day knowing it's all in hand. The team are really experienced and it shows!

Pretty much all of our guests have said how lovely their rooms were, how well organised the wedding was, how great the food was and how professional and attentive the staff were. One of my friends has even said she wants our exact wedding when she marries next year!

If you're reading this because you're thinking of having your wedding here then do not hesitate to book the Bay Tree, I promise you won't regret it.

I wish we could do it all again!
Jaimie & Ally

We stayed in an "Excellent Room" called "Windrush". It's an old place, but its full of trip hazards that should be highlighted better if they cannot be structurally eliminated. The plumbing is awful, the toilet knocked loudly - the connecting wall actually vibrated! Taller guys have to use the hand held shower. The room was cold when we arrived as the old radiators are up to it. There are additional electric heaters in the bedroom and the sitting room, because management obviously agreed with us. The electric heater in the sitting room was broken and we were given a portable heater and the one in the bedroom got scalding hot and is a danger if you have to get up in the dark at night to wake other residents by using the high decibel toilet. The bed was probably the most uncomfortable one we have ever had in any hotel and the pillows were skimpy thin and gave you neck ache which matched the back ache we had from laying in the bed - we never had one night's good sleep out of the three we stayed! The bar and restaurant are very nice and the menu was tasty if a little limited and did not change, nevertheless we enjoyed choices during our three night stay, but residents staying longer might become bored. Service was generally very good. but breakfast service on last morning was spoilt, we were refunded £20, but it was still unacceptable for a 4 star hotel!

Dear JonHollick, Thank you for your positive comments on our menu and front of house team. We are saddened to hear of your disappointment, and I truly wish you had informed us at the time so we could have gone some way to helping resolve your issues. Certainly the majority of them could have been easily fixed. The mattress I will look into, unfortunately as we do not lay on the beds we occasionally are unaware a mattress has passed its best unless we are informed by guests and I am very sorry you did not enjoy yours. Best wishes,

The Bay Tree is a brilliant little hotel. It’s perfectly situated just off the Burford high street, making it really convenient. The hotel itself is very pretty and has a nice bar and restaurant as well as plenty of outside garden space. We ate in the restaurant and had breakfast daily which was all very nice. Our room was the smallest room - good size double which was well decorated, small but not too small with a bath in the bathroom and Morton brown products. All the staff were very friendly.

Have just come back from a very enjoyable stay at The Bay Tree for our 45th Wedding Anniversary. Our room was lovely, spacious which had extremely tasteful relaxing decor. It would be good if a fridge/mini bar was in the room because I like fresh milk with any beverages that I have as I don't like the taste of the long-life ones, but that is a minor issue which was the only drawback. I would like to thank Alena on Reception for choosing such a lovely room for us, she was extremely pleasant & helpful during our stay. The Hotel is situated in a small road off the Main Street in Burford a fantastic location, you can walk to anywhere in Burford to enjoy a strole around the different roads and see some of the wonderful old properties - it's like going back in time. For anyone wanting to visit the Cotwolds you won't be disappointed. Also to note, The Bay Tree has very good free parking for it's residents which is always a good thing. Thank you we will definitely be back.
