The Lamb Inn, Burford, offers the usual charm and tranquility we have become accustomed to when staying at the Cotswold Inns & Hotels, as soon as you enter, you feel relaxed, welcome and at home.
The Lamb is full of character, cosy and quaint but always with a hint of luxury. We were slightly early for check in, so we decided to go for a walk around the gorgeous town of Burford which is just at the end of the road. The staff made sure our bags/cases were taken up to our room for when we arrived back.
The bed was so comfy and the room kitted out with all the amenities you need, along with some little extras like homemade flapjacks and Molton Brown toiletries. Our bathroom was huge, with a large open powerful shower and the towels were the perfect size and fluffy.
We enjoyed a beautiful 3 course Sunday lunch in the Hotel restaurant and a few drinks later on in one of their cosy drawing rooms. I had a great nights sleep, it was so peaceful.
A lovely light breakfast the next morning before check out at 11am.
All in all, another fantastic stay at the Cotswold Inns, staff were great and very friendly, we will definitely return to this one.

As Phil and Kirsty would tell you it is all about location. The Lamb is off a side street in centre of Burford so ideally suited for a short walk into town.

Car is cleverly hidden behind the sister hotel, 50 yards down the street! The car park is a good size which is handy in Burford.

The staff are polite but the hotel itself is a little dated and could benefit with updating. Care low ceilings my head has a few bruises despite being warned.

Lovely little bar in Lam with a fine ale (can't recall the name) as well as a full bar. Nice way to finish off an evening.

There is a restaurant which I have reviewed separately...its OK!

Breakfast was excellent with full range of options including full English.

The hotel attempts to lift itself with Molton Brown toiletries in the room and coffee machine with pods however it was quite small and enduite a rather tight squeeze

We opted for b & b package at £175 a night...fair not exceptional value.

Overall nothing really to complain about just a few "must try harder"

Our second staycation night in Burford and although we were staying at The Highway Inn we dined at The Lamb and how great a decision was that.

Just a little background first. We did ask one of the girls at The Highway where she would recommend as it’s good to get some current local knowledge as well as the Trip reviews. She suggested either The Angel or The Lamb which are both close by. So before our dinner on our first night we ventured out for some drinks and first of all to The Angel. It was around 6.45pm and there was literally one table occupied but the owner/landlord/general operative decreed they were full and we could not even get a drink for 20 minutes. So my personal feelings are if somebody can’t put themselves out for a drink then why should I spend £100ish on dinner the following night. So onto The Lamb who although much busier could not have been more helpful and we had a drink in the bar area, pursued the menu and decision made.

We returned the following night and were invited to stay in the bar, go to the garden or straight to our table. It had been a glorious summer like day so we decided on the garden for a drink. Wow, what an hidden gem, absolutely beautiful, immaculately maintained with fabulous garden furniture with proper wooden parasols that anybody would be proud to have in their own garden. When we get back home I’m absolutely not going to be impressed by a tired wooden bench with a John Smiths parasol again!

Into the restaurant and I might have mentioned this before but although the food is critical the whole dining experience is also about the dining area, the ambience, the table and position, the staff and the service. Again wow, nothing at all could be faulted, it was just brilliant and if the owner at The Scott’s Arms wants to understand the difference between 3 and 5 star reviews then get yourself to The Lamb Inn.

We skipped starters as we had decided on the Cote de Boeuf sharing main course which came with triple cooked chips, mushrooms, tomatoes and bernaise sauce. Again, wow, one of life’s food pleasures is a nice well cooked steak and this was simply just perfection. We also chose a Malbec wine with the steak but they had run out but were happy to replace with a more expensive bottle at the same price. Class.

I did not want dessert but was persuaded to share a chocolate dish and this was, and this is my final wow, just incredible. We also saw several more desserts especially the Mille-fueille which looked fantastic. Our waiter confirmed they have a dedicated patisserie chef and he/she certainly has exceptional skills.

I cannot recommend The Lamb and their team more highly and if I could score it a 10 I would happily do so. If you are in Burford then please do not miss this place.

Recently went here for my dads birthday lunch and it was delicious ! The waitress allowed us to order some food off the main bar menu and some from the set lunch which was really helpful. All food came out at the same time and nice and warm.

I had chicken goyozas to start in a teriyaki dipping sauce which was lovely.

Followed by a lentil and veggie wellington which was incredible !

And for pudding a rhubarb and apple crumble which was also amazing - only comment was that my grandma found the pots fiddly because the crumble would flood out but nevertheless it was still yummy !

Would highly recommend - great value for money 🙌🏻

We also got freshly made warm bread which was incredible

Had to change room on arrival up a flight of very narrow stairs not ideal for older guests. Alternative room was fine had to be careful along corridor due to low beam( it is a very old hotel so low beams are to be expected in parts.
Had dinner in the restaurant on first evening rather small amount of garlic prawns to start. Original bottle of wine was not good but was immediately exchanged second bottle was fine. Not very impressed by the main course Côte de beef cooked well enough and accompanied by triple cooked chips not very warm and not as well cooked as they should have been for £60.00 for two.( not fine dining)
Breakfast was perfectly done however breakfast next day was not so good porridge was only warm only the scrambled egg was hot all other items we’re only warm
Staff were friendly but younger staff lacked rapport with the clientele also no masks were being worn maybe better when Covid has gone.

We popped into the Lamb for lunch after a walk in Burford. My friend ordered a sandwich . When it arrived the bread was stale and hard . When she complained the waitress did not bother to apologise and merely said “Do you want me to replace it then?” She then had to wait 10 minutes and when it finally arrived there was again no apology for the delay. Before she had finished her meal the waitress started clearing everyone else’s plates away. She didn’t ask if the rest of us wanted anything else like another drink so we promptly asked for the bill and left. Terrible service . We will not be back

My partner and I stayed at the Lambs Inn from 21 to 28 Sep 2018.We selected this inn because we had a hire car and could cover some beautiful place like Burton on The Water which is hardly a 5 to 6 min drive.
The Lambs Inn has a spacious parking and one always gets a place. It has an old world charm and you experience the convoluted way to get in .But the Staff is very friendly and you usually dont bang your head. It seem a bit inauspicious to start with and then they open the Deluxe Suite.Spick and Span and cosy. With writing desk,a small lounge and TV. The ensuite Bathrooms are very spacious and well laid out. Breakfast is laid in the dining room and you can hve about any item in a sumptious English Breakfast tea/coffee and juices. All served meticulously.
Then after lungering a while you get into your car and see the country side which is picturesque. Even if you want,Burton on the Water bacomes,so to say,an adjunct to the Lambs Inn.They have a large car park and s 5mi walk takes you to the charms of Burtonon the Water. And then after exploring the countryside extensively and wandering into the quaint shops, saying hello to the friendly ducks in the River and maybe a coffee or ice cream and then, you had back to the lambs Inn, a lovely bar and a very fine seating for us elderly people. A couple of Famous Grouse tots latet, you are served excellent dishes from the menu. An then to rest and relax for the next day.We stayed from 21 Sep to 28 Sep 18.

We dined in this hotel a number of years ago whilst staying around the corner in the Burford Hotel. We remember it being a very impressive dining experience and said we'd have to return one day and sample the rooms. Well last weekend we made it back to the Lamb in the beautiful old market town of Burford in the Cotswolds.

It was every bit as nice as we remembered it from last time and the thing that stuck in our minds from years ago was the original flagstone floors that are still looking as good as ever. Loving all the imperfections and dips etc in the floors.

The Hotel itself was built in the 15th Century and absolutely oozes character and charm. Its been really lovingly and tastefully restored and decorated. Bedrooms are really impressive. Beds and linen to die for and the Bathroom JUST WOW. I remember standing under the high quality monsoon shower inside the huge bath tub and thinking, how can a building over 400 year old possess such high quality modern features so seamlessly and i got to thinking about the stories that could be told about this wonderful - once original row of weavers cottages.

Restaurant was equally tastefully decorated in keeping with the rest of the establishment. Food was a delight and served by really lovely well trained, polite staff. I said to my Wife, when ALL the staff in an organisation are of a certain standard and quality, its not by chance - its called culture.

You can probably tell by now that we are big fans of this fascinating well ran Hotel and would highly recommend it to others looking for a classy break, with great food and hospitality in a very historic interesting market town which is virtually on the doorstep, but without being noisy.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly be returning in the future.

Having stayed in December at the sister hotel, The Bay Tree next door we weren't suprised to find beautiful log fires and a warm welcome. The surroundings are quintessential with delightful touches in your room. The Stable room however had a bath that you would need to be very agile to get in and out of. Not a problem for us but less nimble guests would be unable to use it. A walk in shower would be better and safer. We had swapped from a dog friendly room but were given one anyway and the dog bowl in the bathroom was an unwelcome addition. The bedding was beautiful though, room lovely and warm and fresh milk delivered in the morning to have with lovely Twinnings tea.
Breakfast was delicious, lots of choice, cooked freshly and hot. Shame the bar meal wasn't the same standard. Expensive and one meal inedible. A no quibble refund was given but disappointing all the same. Staff friendly and good at their jobs. Overall a lovely time and would go back.

We have recently returned from four very pleasant days at the Lamb. It is quaint and full of atmosphere and very conveniently located for Burford activities and the Cotswold area in general. It was good to have a welcome break after the last 18 months.

We have previously stayed in a superior room but only a standard room was available. The room itself was fine but the bathroom had only a small basin and the shower over the bath was difficult to use for my wife who has some physical difficulties.

Would suggest paying the extra for a better room as in our view the additional cost is justified by the great location, characterful property and as always the staff are super friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant and at the bar during our stay and enjoyed both.
