Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Cotswolds Hotel & Spa is frequently applauded for its clean and spacious rooms that boast picturesque golf course views, although there have been some concerns regarding noise and basic furnishings. Its prime location is celebrated by guests for scenic countryside vistas and convenient access to local attractions.
While the hotel's cleanliness and modern amenities receive commendations, opinions on the atmosphere and service are mixed, with some dissatisfaction during busy events. Travelers also have divergent views on value, balancing reasonable room rates against less impressive facilities and dining options.

Detailed Reviews
Nice hotel and lovely staff, everyone was working really hard , however it seemed like there were many new staff.
The hotel is a golf hotel with a small spa. The treatments are lovely and the therapist are really attentive .
This isn’t a luxury spa
No spa reception
No explanation on how to obtain towels or robes and there were not enough to go around
2 small changing rooms but lots of people.
There was a water dispenser but no facility to get a drink in the spa area
1 hot tub
1 sauna and steam room
Loungers
We had a loft room that was massive, but only one chair to relax in and the TV as too far from the bed to be able to see it properly
Room was lovely and clean
We had an evening meal from a set menu, nice food
Breakfast was very busy and disorderly, we asked for milk with our tea, it was served in a gravy boat
The acoustics make hearing difficult when the bar is busy
Nice hotel , great for a golf trip but not a
Luxury spa break
Gym available but we didn’t use it

Nice hotel, excellent location. Stayed Sunday which included 2 rounds golf for husbands /stay and dinner at reasonable cost
Seemed to be several complaints although to be fair happy with very clean room and food
Disappointing we were unable to book any spa treatments though we did attempt to book well in advance
Congratulations to staff who were brilliant and seemed to be coping well despite constant complaints.
Crockery at breakfast appeared tired and stained which should be easy to fix . Door handle on wardrobe missing in room making it difficult to open
Parts of hotel appeared little tired
Have to be fair and take into account covid impact on hospitality with workforce issues challenging so hope to visit again in the hope small details mentioned above all resolved

We used this “hotel as a base” for our travels in the area ( we are not golfers).
The venue is lovely, though if you have a room facing the course be aware in summer there is no air con and the rooms appear to be south facing getting very hot and almost a no go area from about 11am-8 pm. The metal railed balcony too not too touch and the balcony furniture also gets too hot to even sit on.
When we arrived and checked in,our room at 3 pm was like an oven, although a fan was provided.
I would say it is really a golf club with a few hotel facilities.
The room apart from the heat was comfortable, clean and room service very efficient( though I did suggest maybe before guests check in they draw the curtains to try and keep some of the heat out).
The bar area had no air con and was extremely hot despite doors being open. Seating also available on outside bar terrace.
Bar area Staffed as a golf club, so the staff are a little overwhelmed trying to serve customers, particularly when wedding guests congregate there before an even in the ball room merge along side users of the golf club and hotel guests.
Both the restaurant ( where breakfast is also served) and bar area are on the first floor up steep stairs, a lift is available through the ballroom on the ground floor to access it.
Only a limited bar menu at lunch time, mainly to be eaten in the bar area, however there is a dining area which is air conditioned and we chose to eat there. However one lunch time we were asked to leave because the waitress in charge needed to clean it ( at lunch time) and refused to let us stay there.
You cannot put any drinks/ meals on to your hotel room and must pay on ordering at the bar or at your table after your evening meal in the restaurant!
Food was generally good, however quality of breakfast food ingredients was basic and not high quality( evening meals much better). Evening meal menu limited and set items but generally very well cooked and tasty.
The term “spa” is misleading in the hotel’s title. The spa consists of one small hot tub( accommodating 4-6 people) up very steep stairs on the second floor. There are also about 6-8 loungers in a cooler area, a very small sauna and steam room.
You can have treatments( payed for and ordered in advance); mine was lovely and the therapist very good, however the treatment room was very small and extremely hot……not comfortable with your face down on a massage table.
The staff are excellent and very friendly

Booked direct with the hotel for 3 night's DBB plus 2 rounds of golf for £480 which I thought was excellent value, particularly as they gave us a free room upgrade to one facing the course.
Breakfast was first class and dinner, although a limited menu and it took a while was very good. With just 2 in the kitchen and 2 more waiting/servicing the bar this was understandable and a special mention for the young waitress (Sam I think!) who was excellent.
Our room was spotlessly clean and serviced each day, couldn’t have been better.
The golf course was in superb condition with a good number of green staff working on it all the time. Our second round was quite slow due to a couple arriving late for their tee time but we were in no hurry. Buggies are available at £28 per round.
Overall a very enjoyable stay and certainly has my recommendation.

Stayed at this hotel in July when COVID restrictions were still in place. Booked for a spa weekend break which was all confirmed by email. Staff were wearing masks but there was a lack of hand sanitiser (basically they were all empty). The room was of good size (we upgraded to a view of the golf course), but the room was unfortunaltely dirty with stains on the bed sheets, marks on the ceiling, hair and dirt around the bath and an old razor between the bath and the shower unit (see pictures). They made a point by leaving information in the room on how they were being extra careful with cleaning due to covid 19 but this was clearly not the case. The food in the restuarant was good as was the breakfast, but they don't know how to make cocktails in the bar. Unfortunately our room despite the good view of the golf course was just down from the bar so we were woken up several times by noisy drunk people making there way to their rooms. On the Sunday we attending for the spa treatments but despite having an email confirming both treatments only one of us was booked in. We therefore did not go ahead with this and we were offered a refund only and no compensation for this depite this being their mistake which is very poor customer service. However on reading previous reviews with the spa being dirty and people getting skin infections we got away lighlty. It did however take several emails and a threat to dispute our payment with our credit card to finally get a refund.
Overall this is a appalling hotel and we would not stay here again. It is tired, needs refurbishing and a DEEP CLEAN.

Room was miss sold. We were led to believe the room had a sofa bed as well, giving somewhere to sit in comfort to watch tv. However there was no sofa, only one bucket chair and one desk chair. The bath still had water in and the shower seal was hanging off. Definitely not worth £200 per night.
We were offered a standard room for a slight reduction but unfortunately was not what we had booked for, if that’s what we wanted we would have booked a Travel Lodge. The service in the restaurant was totally inefficient. Breakfast took over an hour, dinner was ordered at 8.15pm starters arrived at 9.15 and not complete, no cutlery until we asked for it, main course arrived 9.45 . Other people before us still not served. Shaving mirror fell off the wall and was evident it had done so before. It was situated just above the shaver socket over the mains cable in the wall, a potential fatal accident waiting to happen. Neither the owner nor manager seemed fully sympathetic or apologetic about our concerns or complaints and offered no compensation.
The room offered a balcony with table and two chairs but it was so small you couldn’t open the door and get to the second chair without a tight squeeze. There was a small flatscreen tv mounted on the wall so far down the very large room that it was difficult to see from the bed and nowhere else comfortable for two people to watch it from. see photo . A very disappointing stay in what could be a lovely place. On the plus side the food when you eventually got it was very good and the waiting staff although badly organised were very pleasant .

On arrival we were greeted by a receptionist who was not particularly welcoming, and we advised her that we had arrived for our friends wedding, and Spa treatments booked for 2pm. My friend wanted to put her luggage somewhere but the receptionist was very abrupt and only advised us the rooms would not be available till 3pm, no alternative options were offered. Overall the service by hotel staff was not to a good standard, particular with regards to making sure the Bride and Groom had what they needed, i.e. providing breakfast to them in their rooms as they had a tight schedule in morning, the groom was cleaning chairs for the guests.
The wedding guests were all spread out which is not what we were expecting, especially as we had booked our rooms over two years ago, as this wedding was meant to happen in 2020 during the pandemic. Some guests got spacious rooms, but many including my friend and I got really small rooms, which made getting ready for the wedding a challenging.
The Spa treatments were excellent and restaurant meal the night before the wedding was tasty, however breakfast was ok when the plates were warmed for hot food.
It is not a hotel I would recommend for a special event.

Recently stayed at the Cotswolds Hotel and Spa for a special occasion and loved our stay.
When we arrived we went to reception to see if we could checkin early as their check-in time was 15:00. As the room was ready they let us check-in earlier which was very kind of them. This allowed us plenty of time to explore the hotel and also pop into the town of Chipping Norton which although wasn't far away we decided to drive as the weather was abit wet.
As we had booked through Booking.com we had booked just the room and no breakfast but we were able to add this on when we checked in for just £12 per person. We also booked for dinner that evening too. We were aware that the Spa was not included as it was shown on Booking.com that an additional charge would apply which we thought was good that we were not been charged for something if we hadn't used it. Both myself and my partner however due to the weather chose to visit the spa and we're happy to pay the £20 per person. The Spa had recently been renovated and was limiting overall numbers of people who could go in which meant their were periods where we had this all to ourselves! Sadly however they were fully booked the presents so I would definitely recommend booking in advance!
We enjoyed a tasty dinner that evening and appreciated that in unprecedented times because of covid-19 they were doing the best they could with ever changing rules. The girl who was serving us (sadly didn't get her name) was really friendly and attentive.
The following morning we came down for breakfast which we had booked. Normally hotels this size would have used a buffet but a game restrictions meant they couldn't. We were aware of this issue from previous reviews and were aware this could take a little time to be served. We waited for approximately 20 minutes but after which a fresh full cooked breakfast was brought to us.
We will definitely be back (hopefully when the restrictions have lifted) and although I'm awarding this 5 stars when we were checking out we spoke to David the Revenue and Reservations Manager who told us to telephone and book a Spa Package next time as this would have included the Breakfast, Dinner Spa Access and treatments which would have saved us instead of going through booking.com. Top tip thank you!
Will definitely be back!

My wife, daughter and I spent two nights at this lovely hotel. We wanted a nice break and chose the Cotswold hotel, spa and golf. We stayed in a clean, spacious 2 bedroom, 3 bathroom apartment overlooking the luscious golf courses - I’m not a golfer but could see that those who were partaking looked very happy. The food was good. I am aware that the hotel industry is currently suffering with staffing issues following Brexit. The spa was excellent and my wife and I really enjoyed our full body massages. Our masseuses were highly-skilled and we left feeling very relaxed! The masseuse opened the doors between our rooms so that we were able to enjoy a ‘couples massage’. If you’re thinking about booking a spa or golf break or just looking for a few nights away, I would highly recommend this hotel. Extremely great value for money.

As a group of ladies we all stayed in one large apartment, covering 2 levels with 4 bedrooms (all ensuite) and a large kitchen/diner/lounge with pull out double beds if necessary. The apartment was located looking over the 1st tee - just perfect, absolutely ideal for our group. The rooms in the apartment were clean and bed linen spotless. We stayed for 3 nights and had 3 rounds of golf & some ladies had a treatment, which I understand were good, but I didn't have one myself. The course was in super condition very well maintained, despite the heavy deluge of rain which continued on/off during our stay, it did not dampen our spirits and we all had 3 good games.
We must not forget this was the first week of opening since lockdown and there were a few initial staffing issues and for some it was a baptism of fire but it vastly improved by the third day, the management are taking this very seriously. For me personally I had no issue with any member of staff or level of service and can only give praise, they did their utmost to please and were all extremely polite.
The location and set-up is perfect for a golfing break with friends, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to stay with close friends and playing golf. I will most certainly be back and do recommend the apartments for like-minded groups.
