Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great location in the centre of town with very easy check in, we had arrived early and it was with great that relief that Alex checked us in to the room straight away (thanks Alex) which was quite spacious and very comfortable. The only downside was that as the hotel is above some shops it is accessed via a number of steep narrow steps. This was our starting point for walking part of the Thames path and the venue kindly agreed to pass on our bags to the baggage transfer company (so a very big thanks).

Huge, but weirdly laid out, stained and poorly cleaned room, that was hot and uncomfortable. Television wonky, heater hanging off the wall by its rawlplugs and a dehumidifier stuck under the desk. Do not recommend

It’s the location which is this accommodations feature. It’s very central close to all the sights. Be aware not for the mobility challenged as there are steep stairs to the rooms which are adequate, our was a decent size on the first floor with a decent size ensuite. It’s not a hotel but rooms and even though ours was at the back it is very noisy as the stairs creek as soon as a toe steps on them. There is no fridge. We ran out of toilet paper, tea and coffee every day of our stay. Staff were not very helpful. Didn’t have a car but could see that would b a problem. Good for a night or two no longer.

Lovely bed with crisp white duvet cover and soft pillows. En suite deluxe room looking out onto Balliol College. Really nice one-night stay. Definitely noisy from being an older building with thinner walls and noisy students on Broad Street but ear plugs helped and we both slept just fine. Very English hotel and we Americans enjoyed it. Had breakfast at the Covered Market. Lovely in room tea and coffee setup. Lots of stairs so be prepared.

Perfect location on Broad Street, right in the heart of historic Oxford. This is a good, reasonably priced choice. Although described as a hotel, it’s really just rooms above shops, with a reception desk. There is no restaurant, lounge, bar or facilities at the accommodation. We knew this and it didn’t matter to us. Our room was serviced during our weekend stay and was comfortable and warm. Tea and coffee and kettle provided. One coat hanger. The room was quite small but adequate. Good shower. The location of our room (102) was noisy, by the top of the stairs and the reception desk. Other rooms, further away, presumably aren’t.

Comfortable stay! I wouldn't call it a 4 star hotel, more like a 3 star. My reason for this would be the mis-matching furniture and the fact there is no breakfast or food facilities. Also in room 205 the mattress on the left hand side was very 'saggy' - it was ok for me but if you are used to a firm mattress it would be a problem. It just felt like it was a bit worn in. The good bits - nice friendly staff, good service, leave luggage, spacious room, good bathroom and good tea tray. Nice new smart TV. Outside is a little noisy but nothing past midnight on a Saturday night. Little on the expensive side but just about justified due to the excellent location. I would use again.

Fantastic location, right on the Broad opposite Balliol. The entrance is unprepossessing, just some narrow stairs and no people. But once you've climbed them, there's a friendly face and our room about 2 feet away. And what a lovely room, quirky and overlooking the Broad, which is now traffic free. The bathroom is small but well fitted. My wife and I thought the shower was the best we have encountered in a hotel, with a door that shuts properly so the bathroom doesn't get soaked. And the towels were soft and fresh. There is no breakfast or dining area which we knew. But our stay was comfortable and the location was perfect for us.

I have stayed in may hotels and would say that this is a 2star hotel at best (using the word hotel loosely)! The positives are location and luggage storage, as well as tea, water and biscuits in the room. Location was why I chose to stay here, and it was perfect! 1min walk to the history of science museum which I enjoyed! Walking back after a night out in the centre was very quick and felt safe! The negatives; The room was very cold and wasn’t sure how heaters are turned on, check this when checking in! I didn’t sleep much the first night due to the cold and noise (my room faced the Main Street). The brown carpets really date the place, noisy floors, toilet seat needs fixing, chairs in the room are old and don’t look very clean. Room didn’t smell pleasant. I will not stay again.

Idon’t think I paid twice you have charged me twice I paid The man in question cash as HE said my card had NOT been charged. I DID NOT at any point in the conversation authorise him to charge my card. If my card was going to be charged anyway why was I asked how I wanted to pay ? And that I must give the correct money as you don’t carry change. I should have thought that to be odd at the time but having driven 4 and a half to 5 hours from South Yorkshire to arrive in Oxford my concern was to get showered and changed to attend the show we had driven down to see. And to suggest I had had a drink and thought I had paid cash is absolutely unthinkable. If you trust this man totally then you must all know what is going on. And have probably done the same thing before and will do it again. WHY give a cash option at all if you have card details to charge for the booking. your employee took the money and still charged my card without my consent this is fraud and theft. I will be taking this matter further and I would also like to speak with the man in question. As I was told by the man I first spoke to that he would get him to ring me yesterday. Can look out of the window and see the start line. Comfortable enough, not luxurious, but allowed us to keep the room to shower after the run, which was good. Walking distance to central Oxford, if a little noisy from the revellers outside.
