Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An absolutely lovely hotel in a fantastic location! We travelled with our adult children to see Ben Folds at the New theatre and wanted to break up the journey and explore the area. The family room is ample and all the beds were extremely comfortable. Despite being on a main road it was quiet and we got an excellent nights rest. The checkout of 11am was perfect too. Thank you - would definitely stay again if up this way.

Nicely located between the bus station and the train station and close to everything in Oxford. After flying all night from Florida to Heathrow and catching the bus to Oxford we arrived before the 3PM checkin time but they were kind enough to switch our room to one that was already prepared. Though the building is old the facilities are all modern and well maintained.

Friendly welcome. Struggled with the stairs a bit. Good size room with comfortable bed. Spacious well fitted clean shower room. Room was a bit too warm. Charge to borrow umbrella was a bit expensive.

The location is extremely convenient to the train station and very convenient to sightseeing in Oxford. There are some restaurants nearby and a small grocery store in the same building. It was clean and basically satisfactory. However, the room I was in had one power outlet across the room from the bed, and further did not have a clock to substitute for a bedside phone. The keys are large and left at the front desk -- which is almost always manned. If it isn't manned, they leave a UK phone number which could be a problem. It's a fairly basic hotel -- the only toiletries were wall mounted soap and shampoo (no conditioner or lotion). I did not see an elevator but I left my suitcase when I arrived (in the morning so my room was not ready) and the staff took it up to my room.

Their exceptional service reminds me of the higher standard of service before COVID. The reception opens 24 hours a day. Staff will escort you to your room and show you around. The heat is turned on well before checking in. The staff are very responsive and passionate to help the guests. All these are not a must anymore nowadays. I rarely say I'll book the same hotel in recent years but I would definitely check Royal Oxford Hotel's availability first when I go to Oxford again.

Fantastic location, close to the train station and within easy walking distance of Oxfords attractions. Large room with good firm bed and plenty of easy chairs. Nice looking bathroom, again of good size . Coffee and tea tray was replenished. Staff were friendly. Good recommendations for local restaurants, we enjoyed Bangkok House very much However, the shower was difficult to alter (but once we got it to the correct temperature it remained there) The shower leaked onto the bath mat, despite it being sodden it was not changed Breakfast was taken in the attached cafe, however this was advertised as being £9.99 with orange juice, but in reality it was more expensive and no orange juice.j

Lovely room, lovely staff. Clean and central with added bonus of a nearby carpark. No breakfast which is a disappointment and the Olive Branch Cafe attached to hotel expensive and mediocre. Obviously use other places close by for breakfast. Handy Sainsbury's nearby

Central location near railway station and just outside ZEZ. Carparking reduced rate at Long Stay. Helpful staff. Loses a star for £35 charge for a small dog. Didn't use the cafe in the building due to the reviews so went to Wetherspoons Four Candles nearby.

Hotel in an excellent position for car parking and for all the attractions near the pedestrian area. Friendly reception staff. Spacious family room with a nice big bathroom and well cleaned. Full English breakfast in the connected cafe. We had a very good time and would definitely go back.

Had 2 night stay. Very clean small room. Horrid view of the hotel back (pipes air con). Very basic! Nice towels in a fantastic bathroom! Windows couldn’t open and bars on them. Could do with plug sockets near beds. Staff speak good English but need some kind of uniform as one girl wore shorts and t-shirt,looked like she’d been jogging!(not professional and couldn’t tell who was staff). No lift!!!,2 flights of stairs to get to first floor rooms. This was hard for my elderly Aunt to walk up. Very near bus and train station which is handy. Cafe and Sainsbury’s next door that’s very handy.
