Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have many bed bug bites from this place, we have had to throw out, wash and exterminate our luggage, which is costly and time consuming. This place is incredibly overpriced especially considering: -The fridge was mouldy - the place had bed bugs and needs an extermination, clean and redecoration. - - The decor is very dated and old. Positive - They were friendly

We spent a night here as we attended an event in Oxford, and I personally was delighted by this traditionally designed English B&B! It was warm and welcoming, I had such a good sleep and I experienced the simple but classy breakfast served by the host. The road was quite busy and we could hear noise from other guests (it was a weekend after all!), but this house is a perfect example of the authentic British life and we will definitely be back!

This is a well located facility for access to Oxford. But it is very expensive, given the poor quality offer. In spite of material in the room advertising a full English breakfast, it in fact only offers what they describe as a" continental " breakfast. The centrepiece of this is a boiled egg: and virtually hard boiled at that ! The only alternative us to have 2 boiled eggs ! The beds are small and the heating was inadequate for a mild night in March. It advertises as a 4 star facility but this must relate to their pricing structure as this accommodation is at best 2 star. Our advice is not to be tempted by the good location but to get a better quality deal elsewhere in Oxford.

Stayed here as a base for the Queen Extravaganza show at the new theatre, On arrival we noted there was ample parking, The owner greeted us, he was very friendly & cheerful, he gave us our room keys & explained a few basics ie- breakfast times etc, The rooms are large & comfortable (some may say a bit dated but remember you are not paying top dollar), There was plenty of tea, coffee & milks, usually you only get enough for 1 maybe 2 cups but here you get loads, The beds were comfortable, the bathroom in my room was big & spacious, The rooms were very warm but turning the radiator thermostats down soon had the rooms more to my liking, The owner had arranged a taxi for us, we had asked for a taxi number but he offered to call one for the time we wanted, The breakfast is a continental type, tea / coffee, cereals (lots of choice), fruit / fruit juices, toast with jams / marmalade, boiled eggs all served by a very friendly, smiling lady, she offered for us to have breakfast earlier than the agreed time, I cannot fault the place, if you want 5 star rooms then go & pay 5 star prices but if you are more interested in 5 star service then this place easily delivers & more,

We stayed in room 3 for 2 nights. It is very dated, has a tiny shower room. The whole room is in dire need of a total refit. As everyone else has said, Mark, the manager is delightful but meeting him can detract from the very poor experience we had with the room allocated to us. There is no fan, the fridge is noisy, we switched it off to try and get some sleep. The pillows were hard and old and should be thrown away. They were changed at our request but still not satisfactory. On the positive side, the hotel is well located for access to the city centre with frequent bus services very close to the property. We were allowed to leave our car there for most of the day of our departure. Breakfast was very good, a lovely array of fresh fruit and berries, boiled eggs and toast. On the whole though, we felt that £253 for two nights at this hotel is far in excess of it’s worth.

Congrats guys! You’ve invented time travel - I genuinely was transported back to the 1990s when your “hotel” was last decorated. Hugely overpriced 1-night stay at this dated, tired bnb Manager Mark was friendly enough I could forgive it had they been able to offer a proper breakfast in the morning but no “we can only offer a boiled egg”. WTF Avoid!!

Small carpark full - friendly manager moved his car - apparently people who had checked out had left cars. Rooms not ready when we arrived 2pm-ish. Went into Oxford returned 5pm-ish rooms still not ready. Waited on the chairs in the landing. Double room better than single. Single room tired decor, clean, squidgy mattress didn't sleep well. Shower not powerful. Breakfast choices: fruit, cereal and boiled egg(soft, medium or hard) Very disappointed we couldn't leave the car for a few hours Sunday morning as had seemed to be the case with others the day before.

Perfect place for an event. Had a hen do night, the bedrooms were clean and spacious. The character of the house has been kept throughout with wooden beams and exposed bricks. Very beautiful property. Continental breakfast served with a lot of choice of fruit and other bits. They did cater to all our whims. The owner is very friendly and welcoming, and did the kindest gesture of getting a present for the bride when he absolutely didn't need to. We all had a fantastic time, and would happily stay again. Would definitely recommend as well!

Came here for a night away with my partner, location is good and we were able to park on site and walk the two miles to the city, security is a concern as on arrival the keys are left in an envelope for you in a place stated in the email, large house with very dated decor, appeared clean on the whole although we did later discover a small blood stain on the sheet but apart from this all good, we didn't meet the manager until the following day as we left and he seemed a very friendly host. We did have several issues that would justify the overpriced comment, the mattress was very uncomfortable and clearly needed replacing, the walls very thin so we could hear other guests conversations, no air conditioning or fan on the hottest day of the year so far, the shower is certainly not a power shower and was not the most refreshing start to the day and finally due to covid they are only offering a continental breakfast, I could understand the rationale if this was served in the room but is served in the dining room, I can't comment on the food as we passed on breakfast and went to a delicious artisan cafe up the road instead but I would have liked a cooked breakfast for the room price paid. A mixed bag really, ideally situated but needs some updating to make it worth the cost

I had agreed beforehand that we would be arriving at 1pm on a Saturday. After a long drive, we arrived to find our key outside. Nobody was there representing the premises. We went upstairs to our room to find that it had not been cleaned up from the previous occupant. I rung the landline number and nobody answered. I rung the mobile number given to us and had to leave a message. That was at 1.10pm. We went into Oxford on one of the regular busses from outside the hotel (about every 10 mins) and I had a phone call at 2.30pm from the Manager Mark. I told him I was not happy with the situation. We returned to our accommodation about 4pm and the bedroom door was wide open with our luggage in full view. The room was still not finished. I spoke with Mark once again and let him know I was still not happy. We went out to Henley on Thames for the rest of the afternoon/evening and when we returned, I saw a bunch of keys in our door lock. The following morning I got up to have a shower and the very ancient shower unit had a faint dribble of water. So, no shower. When I originally booked a full breakfast was advertised but then I received an email from the property saying it would only be a continental breakfast, due to Covid. When we went down for breakfast we had table service with tea, coffee, toast etc so why could we not have had a full breakfast when social distancing was out of the window? Perhaps an opportunity for the property to save money on a full breakfast. Having read many of the previous reviews, the Manager, Mark was mentioned many times. Yes Mark was very pleasant but this is a review about the property also. What is the point in having a nice Manager if customers are not getting the service? Almost all of the door handles in the property are broken, the security is awful and the management of the facilities needs to be improved. I would certainly NOT visit this property again. By the way our room number was Room 2.
