Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Bath Place Hotel is a rare gem! Excellent accommodation, absolutely perfect location right in the city centre yet quiet and calm, and the breakfast was lovely. It is an authentic old hotel, with all modern conveniences yet still full of character.

When you book here please note that it is an old building and therefore the rooms will be small and the steps steep which can make it appear a bit stuffy. However, the rooms have everything you need including high speed WiFi, a TV and when we stayed, a very welcome fan. There is also a minibar should you want to use it and enough information about Oxford in the room to assist you plan your visit. Ok it's expensive, but this is Oxford and everywhere is expensive, but the location is smack bang in the centre and cannot be faulted. It's easy to walk about and also very close to the city hopper buses that run frequently around Oxford. There is a pub next door but when we stayed we couldn't really hear much noise so don't let that put you off. The staff are exceptionally welcoming and will do what they can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. This includes allowing us to use the car park beyond the check out time so we could enjoy more of this wonderful city. Car parking is about 200 yards from the hotel and in a secure compound. The pricing is competitive with public car parks nearby and we payed £25 for an overnight stay. The breakfast is continental and adequate enough to start your day with. If you want a cooked breakfast you'll have to pay a surplus. One thing that did stand out for us is that despite it being in the middle of a heat wave the room was comfortable and the bed was exceptionally comfy so we had a very restful sleep.

Location. Frankly, it's the only reason we stayed here. That is what you are paying for, and you will pay a pretty penny for it. And it is olde worlde, the stairs are narrow, the ceilings have beams, the floor slopes in a way that some might find appealing. But this place is charging an absolute premium because they know they can get away with it. The rooms are superficially charming but as soon as you pull the bedspread back and see the cheap polyester pillows and matching lumpy polyester duvet, the true character of this place is obvious. The curtains were stained and the valance was falling off the wall. There are also weird incongruities, like the giant grey rubbish bin with black bin liner, and the cheap plastic laundry hamper in the bathroom that takes up half the floor space. We couldn't figure out why either of those items were in the room. The pub is literally outside your window, though to be fair it's totally quiet by 11:30 pm. On the plus side, the breakfast croissants were nice. And, location.

I have just returned from a 2 night stay at Bath Place. We stayed in the family suite consisting of a double room, twin room and bathroom. The hotel is in a fantastic location and offers secure parking 3 mins away at an additional charge. Breakfast was lovely and they kindly delivered it to our room on our first morning since we were going out early. We had coffee, juice, toast, croissants and plenty of them all well presented . They also have a lovely breakfast room. Our room was quirky and full of character with very steep stairs to access the room but very delightful and lovely comfy beds and luxurious duvets and bedding . The room was compact but we had everything we needed and if you're looking for a central location and a hotel with character then I'd recommend Bath Place.

Some good points but many many bad. My wife and I had a couple of nights there in mid May’23, she hated it ! But I tolerated it for its few good points. Good - Quirky, very close to town centre, friendly staff, lovely pub (Turf Tavern) close by for dining & car park 200yds away. Bad - tiny room (9A) smaller than some shoe boxes I’ve seen ), stained counterpain on bed and shabby carpets discoloured, curtains falling down and old, no bedside table on one side, hard mattress, tiny bathroom, no shower just old chipped bath without shower curtain but tap shower attachment that turned area into wet room without great care, TV old and dysfunctional, only seating was the broken dressing table stool with nail sticking up through seat, window on noisy alley to pub, over priced, desperately in need of extensive renovation and updating, overpriced (basic breakfast too minimal and everything else extra). Shall NOT be recommending this to any friends or family ( in fact embarrassed we stayed there).

Bath Place Hotel felt like home - the crooked stairs, cobblestones, and exposed beams conveyed the profound history behind the hotel. The Turf Tavern and its history added to the charm, and we loved having a pub to check out every night before bed (while we could hear the tavern, it never interrupted our sleep and felt like ambient noise). Breakfast was good, the wi-fi dependable, and I cannot wait to return!

We loved it! Perfect location, beautiful charming room (room 3 — highly recommend! Four poster, enough room, modern bathroom. Everything you need — including extremely effective heating — and Burton & Taylor regularly stayed there :)). We told them we’re vegan and they provided us with vegan milk, yoghurt, cereals, breads, fruit and there was flora butter on the tables (vegan by accident). Thank you for making us feel welcome. What a characterful, quiet and lovely hotel.

Very central hotel with parking nearby. Excellent reception / welcome / service. Cleanliness good but beds and furniture very dated and shabby. Large plastic dirty linen basket in each bedroom = awful! Synthetic bouncy pillows. Breakfast was very good: delicious fresh croissants and toast, yoghurts, ham, cheese, jams and basic fruit.

Just stayed here very disappointing. Lovely guy in reception , great location and that’s where it ends !! Room are very dated , old fashioned even had a tv from 1980s ! Very ooor bathroom facilities overall a huge disappointment . I was very disappointed and what made it worse I went to breakfast at the allocated time . Sat for 15 minutes and know one turned up so I checked out . I told reception and they waived the parking fee . Parking was nearby but you have to go into the hotel to find out the procedure first Location was great , wouldn’t stay again
