The pub is about 3 miles out of oxford in a small village. Rooms lovely but it is the restaurant which is first class. Quality great and a good size portion too. The village is small but has a second pub (the vine) which we found very welcoming. This is a lovely inn and made a great base for our...

Managed to get a great deal £59 for 2 people including breakfast! Really nice clean room which was warm and cosy as there was an extra heater. Lots of hot water - good bathroom. Big towels. Fantastic full English breakfast included in our rate. Lots of coffee and teabags in room with REAL milk in the fridge. You can buy...

A pleasant stay but could have been improved. Room 6 was dusty and needed freshening up. The room was however cleaned properly after it was mentioned. The mould however in the shower needs attention . We only had one bath robe to share and no glasses to drink water from. Otherwise the room was fine. The stairs are awkward and...

The Bear & Ragged Staff is exactly what I had in mind when I thought of staying at an old inn. The rooms certainly have character. At the same time they have been completed modernized in an extremely tasteful way. The en suite bathrooms are amazingly beautiful. There was a problem in our room when we arrived - there was...

We stopped here for our mini-moon. The food was outstanding, and served until a decent time in the evenings. The restaurant was very busy and we could see why once we had the food. Breakfast was also very good. Our room was well equipped and very clean; although there were a few little niggles. The skylight had cables (presumably for...

We booked our room through booking.com & got a great last minute deal. We arrived £ we immediately thought what a great hotel, very quirky & our room is fab. Food on a Sunday is served until 9pm & our meal was fantastic. I explain that I can't eat a big meal & they offers me the option of having...

Stopped for one night at the Bear and Ragged Staff, and would highly recommend it. Room 9 is stunning, really quaint and beautiful with the biggest bath we've ever seen! Considering it is a pub, there was absolutely no noise disturbance at al and the location is brilliant for an Oxford visit. Only 10 mins away from the park and...

A lovely oldey worldly setting. The room was lovely, howevever there was only one dressing gown and not much storage. The check in was friendly and professional, unlike the breakfast staff. Orders were taken but it seemed to be a lot of effort. When asked would you like your room freshened it seemed as if this was too much trouble. Coffe/...

We stayed in room 7 with the old sign outside. The service and breakfast was good. No milk in the room to go with the tea and the TV was appalling. The bar was good and it was unfortunate that we missed dinner. The menu looked very interesting. This country pub is about 6 miles from Oxford centre.

We have now stayed at "The Bear and Ragged Staff" on three occasions. It is a lovely old inn, with several rooms in the original inn, keeping their original charm but tastefully modernised, particularly in the bathrooms. There are also several modern rooms in the new wing. The staff are all very pleasant & helpful. There is a good selection...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Not only does the Bear and Ragged Staff serve fantastic food throughout the day, its conversion to a Country Inn is complete with the opening in December 2012 of the last five of nine rooms. The Bear is now in a position to offer a full suite of services to the discerning traveler whether on business or just looking for a home away from home for a few days. Our food ethos can be summed up very simply, local where possible, absolutely fresh, prepared in our own kitchen. The Bear's food offering can best be described as eclectic, mainly British food, prepared with loving care and attention in well equipped kitchens, beautifully presented and served by well trained floor staff. And all this with a wine list carefully selected for quality and value. ... more   less
