This hotel is welcoming, friendly and efficient. There is a large sitting room with an open fire as well as a courtyard outside for warm weather. There is no lift but there are rooms on the ground floor down three shallow stairs. The beds and bedroom are very comfortable, we particularly welcomed a large walk-in shower as we cannot climb into or over a bath. The breakfast had a wide range of options all hot and tasty. Dinner is to be recommended with a great choice, including an Indian menu and all served with a smile. Large free car park and a good position for visiting many places int he Cotswolds and Oxfordshire.

Room 10, nice old building with lots of character, great welcome booking in. The room was on the small size approximately 12x12’ (made no difference to our stay it was just hot, a fan was provided which made little difference its summer after all. To get air con in there I personally think it wouldn’t be worth the outlay and may ruin the aesthetics of the building) with a good size bathroom, the housekeeping team do need to look at the edges of the floor and behind the door when cleaning the bathroom other than that it was good, the mirror needs renewing in the bathroom as it lets the updating they have done down. The evening meal, burger meal was nice as was the pork steak. The breakfast had everything on offer which was lovely. The staff could not do more for us across the whole stay. I will go back as normally we use chain hotels and I prefer the holt hotel.

The website photos for a standard double room showed the room having a bath so we were disappointed on arrival to find only a walk in shower ( wife loves a bath when we travel as we do not have one at home). we rang reception to see if we could change but the hotel was fully booked on the first night. The receptionist kindly agreed a switch of room for the second night. This room was obviously an upgrade as it was much larger and just seemed nicer so thanks to the Holt for this. The hotel in general is very characterful while the customer areas on the ground floor are really very nice. The standard room was pretty basic and we slightly marked it down on cleanliness as there were areas around skirtings and door casings in the bathroom that should have been cleaner and the tops of skirting boards in places such as under the radiator etc were visibly mucky/dusty. There were also black mould areas on the mastic around the base of some of the shower joints while the water pressure at the shower head just okay. We tried a cup of tea in the room but the taste was awful. On closer evaluation the inside of the kettle had a scummy green buid up on the flat bottomed element. I managed to clean this off using tissue and hot water and boiled it up a couple of times before trying again. The tea tasted much better after this.
Personally we found the pillows too soft in the standard room but the bed was comfortable. the decor in the room was fine . The room we had on the second night didn't have any issues with the kettle or the taste of the tea. The longer pillows in this room were firmer and offered much better head and neck support. The size of the room in general was really spacious something which we appreciated. The large bath did however take a long time too fill. The secondary cleanliness was better in this room but again there was room for improvement. Overall the room decor was really nice though. The breakfast room was nice and the two young girls greeting us on the second morning were really smiley and welcoming. We had breakfast both mornings and generally it was good . I ordered porridge both mornings the second morning portion being larger and hotter . The gluten free sausage my wife ordered as a dietary requirement was excellent and all the hot items were hot and tasty so good marks there. The pastries and bread were fine but it was a little disappointing that all the fruit items offered were tinned, the pineapple rings were pale and insipid, the mandarin segments although looking really nice didn't taste that great. This was a shame bearing in mind British soft fruit is in season such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries.
Overall The Holt hotel is a nice place and we enjoyed our stay there . The points above are just observations that wouldn't deter us staying again. the staff in general seemed customer focussed and willing to help make sure that patrons are happy so thank you.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Holt which is a well presented hotel with modern facilities and very friendly and helpful staff. We had a quiet room on the ground floor overlooking the gardens which was very well fitted with an excellent shower room (large shower) with very nice toiletries. There was a good choice of menu for the evening meals and our enjoyment of the food was further helped by the friendly and efficient service in the restaurant. The only slight disappointment was the location of the hotel which is a little remote so you have to drive everywhere.

We visited for a New year's eve dinner disco with ten friends, staying overnight with breakfast included, from the initial booking back in November, which was handled superbly by Mon to check out on New year's day the experience was effortless. All staff were friendly and nothing was to much trouble, our room on the ground floor was big, lovely views onto the garden, big bathroom, plenty of storage, comfortable bed ,couldn't fault it. The bar prices for premium lagers was 5.50 to 6.50 , which is very reasonable for a hotel, the meal was excellent, five courses, the main course being fillet steak, we were asked how we'd like it cooked, and everyone in our party said it was cooked to their requirements ,no complaints on all five courses. The hotel was very clean throughout, all the staff would acknowledge you when going about their duties, i can not fault our stay, highly recommended, wishing you all a happy 2025 to all at the hotel

We have just returned home after a lovely 2 night stay at The Holt Hotel, we arrived on Thursday, and the gentleman on the front desk was super accommodating when it was realised that our booking had only been put on for 1 night when we had paid for 2, he quickly rectified that for us and was also able to procure me and extra pillow as I had forgotten my pregnancy pillow. On arriving at the room we found a nice sized room over looking a roof area which we didn't mind at all as it meant we had no road noise. The room was nicely laid out, clean and the ensuite had a bath with shower over and was clean, and well prepared for our arrival, with fresh towels, and toiletries. We decided to eat at the restaurant both nights and the food was not disappointing, they were very accommodating to our dietary needs, and swapped chips for seasonal vegetables. On the 2nd night when another set of guests were causing issues, we requested to move and they were so helpful, the guests were being vile towards the wait staff who were all doing a fantastic job and dealt with what was happening in the most professional way. Every member of staff we met over the last 3 days were friendly, helpful and professional, from the cleaners all the way to the operations manager everyone of them were pleasant and a joy to speak with. We will definitely be returning.

We have stayed at the Holt on numerous occasions over the last 6 years and treated family and friends to drinks etc during our visits. We always asked for the same or similar room as it had a w/in shower for my disabled wife and was dog friendly. Staff have always been exceptional, hence our return. We had a room booked for two weekends in 2024 and when contacting the Holt to book yet another weekend for this year we were told that the "policies" had changed and they no longer accept dogs. We understand that some guests do not take responsibility for their pets and policies can change, but we were told that our bookings were not being "honored" despite making the bookings in 2023 and not been told of the changes! We had to change our plans and despite spending thousands of pounds in the recent past at the Holt we felt very "let down". Having been involved in Hotels and the hospitality business myself for many years, Its sad to see how the attitude and customer relations have diminished over the years. This will be a loss to us and a bigger loss to the Holt.

Hi Paul, I am disappointed that you had to resort to writing a negative review. I understand you have been very happy with our services for the past six years as you stated. We, like other hoteliers have to change policies from time to time. We have refurbished the majority of our bedrooms. Our business model has changed and we have listened to the majority of our customers who do not feel comfortable with dogs in the hotel. It was purely a commercial decision not accepting dogs anymore. We all love dogs here, and were always receptible to dogs when were a dog friendly hotel. We, like many other hoteliers, are experiencing very challenging times. My receptionist said she did try to offer you a compromise, but you did not respond.

We stayed at the hotel as a family (myself, my mum and my nan) as we were visiting Blenheim Palace. We stayed in a family room which had plenty of space, we ended up with 2 bedrooms - 1 with a double bed and 1 with 2 singles. The only criticism of the room was there was no communal area, or sofa to gather together. The restaurant was lovely, the food great and the service was brilliant. Every member of staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was lovely and clean. The breakfast was a buffet which included cooked breakfast, and continental. The cooked food was hot and all well presented. The rooms had radiators which helped as we stayed in April it was a bit cold outside, and there are single pane windows. Overall was a great stay, and we would definitely stay here again.

We were guests at a wedding held at the Holt Hotel. The ceremony and reception were very well organised. We had a deluxe double room which was of a very high standard and quiet - we couldn't even hear the wedding disco when we retired to bed!! The food was very good and staff polite and very helpful. I would recommend staying at the Holt hotel

We booked a 2-night break via Groupon for a superior room with dinner. The room we were allocated wasn't correct for the booking and when I queried about this, the reception staff were extremely quick to remedy the situation. Word of advice, when buying an upgrade through Groupon it may be worthwhile to check the hotel are aware. We actually paid a little extra and upgraded to a suite and we are so pleased we did. I have attached our photographs. It enhanced our experience no end. At the hotel we also had one of their afternoon teas, dinner and breakfast, all of which was very nice with no complaints. The evening menu had some good options to choose from, if buying a dinner package via Groupon, be aware some options incur an extra charge (lamb shank and steak). All the staff we encountered, reception, bar, waiting, housekeeping are all really friendly, polite and helpful. The hotel was very clean in all the public areas and the grounds and car park area were very well kept. Our suite was clean, we had no complaints at all. The bathroom was kept very well stocked with body wash shampoo and shower caps. (I forgot my hair clips so the shower caps were a god send). The location of the hotel is fantastic for Oxford, Bicester and the Cotswold's. I didn't appreciate the proximity to everything. The nearest park and ride and the station is only 10 minutes away so easy access for Oxford and Bicester. We will definitely be making a return visit. Thank you for such a brilliant stay.

The local are (particularly steeple aston) has a very rich history and the architecture in the surrounding villages is beautiful making it perfect for a stroll. However as it will be Christmas day, there will be nothing open in the area for nearly 5 miles around
There are more places to choose from in the Oxford area.
