Was just OK for us. First room was a Club room, but was worn and shabby looking. Especially the shower which needed all the sealant ripping out and re-doing as it was black and mouldy. Reception dealt with this feedback well and we were upgraded to a suite. This room was nicer but with a smaller bed. It was certainly cleaner. Breakfast was OK. Cooked breakfast was better at the Brighton Mal with hard black pudding here. Parking was good but expensive but I have no idea how much local car parks are. The location is perfect for visiting Oxford.

We had one night in a cell room and loved our stay. From the welcome you receive on arrival to the checking in was 1st class. We had a cell room which had lots of lovely extras and it was very comfy (Sky Sports a bonus). We ate at the hotel that evening and breakfast the food was amazing. We booked this as a little treat and it went above expectations. Perfect location next to main shopping centre and city. First class around, thank you

Amazing hotel, both visually and comfort, the staff are exceptional and nothing was to much trouble, they allowed us to park and check in early as the room was ready and gave us a voucher for 2 free glasses of prosecco as we were celebrating a birthday which was a lovely touch. Everything in the room was beautiful, we stayed in the signature suite which I would recommend, just beautiful! Food was excellent, although the price may seem high, it's high quality ingredients and you get plenty to choose from at breakfast so well worry what you are paying, cocktails are perfectly done and the barman making them was clearly very skilled, so overall 10/10 for everything and im a hard guy to please at times. I would recommend anyone staying here to visit the castle.

Really enjoyed our stay here in this hotel which had been created from the old prison and beautifully renovated. We stayed in one of the old cell rooms which although looked like a typical [nice] hotel room, had been sympathetically restored from three individual cells, retaining many features showing it had once been part of a prison (such as the cell doors), so it was atmospheric, without any of the more sinister elements! We did a really good winter break offer which included breakfast for two days and an evening meal, both of which were really nice and good value with the offer we had. The staff at the hotel were all very professional and helpful. The hotel was ideally situated within walking distance to most of the many attractions of within central Oxford but still really quiet and peaceful. It was also within a 10-minute walk of the train station, or a 2-minute bus route with the stop almost directly outside. Similarly, the bus stop for the hop on hop off bus was within 2 minutes’ walk. I would happily return here again.

Stayed in a club room here on Sunday, these rooms are old and in need of an update. Also the rooms are very dark in terms of decoration. What surprise me is we were unable to get any food on a Sunday afternoon in the hotel until after 5 o’clock. we ended up going to the Randolph hotel for some food in the afternoon ! we then went out to a wedding to come back to find the bar closed at just before 11 o’clock in the evening. English breakfast that I ordered was not fresh and the black pudding, mushroom and tomatoes were all cold,! Staff were pleasant but personally I found the hotel, overpriced and very average. Won’t be returning.

What a wonderful experience in this stunning former prison. All beautifully, cleverly decorated in keeping with it's former use. A fabulous experience staying in a former cell but a lot more comfortable for today's occupants rather than the former ones! Once in your room, the most comfortable king sized bed, lush bedding and a wonderful waterfall shower. Blackout blinds and general peaceful location guarantee a great night's sleep. The food in the restaurant was sublime, good sized portions, ensured one was comfortably full. Superbly cooked and presented food - compliments to the chef. The restaurant staff are lovely, attentive without being intrusive, helpful, professional and also fun with a great sense of humour we found. Graciana on reception was lovely, prior to our visit with emailed help and advice and during our stay. Thank you so much. The valet was charming and helpful. Couldn't fault anything or anyone. We hope to visit again one day.. thanks for making my husbands birthday a memorable one. Recommend doing the Oxford castle tour if you have time, fascinating history. If you are a Malmaison guest you can get 25% off your ticket price.

Malmaison Oxford is the old prison. There are several reviews that say they were given the wrong room, I think it’s the wording. I booked a room in the ‘house of corrections’ and thought this was a cell room but it’s the annex which is outside across the exercise yard. The room was nice, low on amenities for a 4 star; no hand cream, no hair conditioner, no gown (unless requested), narrow full length mirror inside the wardrobe which doesn’t open wide, and so the same amenities as a regular hotel. I expect more in a 4 star. It is beautifully designed and a bit faded, the heating doesn’t work in the room so there’s a plug-in heater. There are complimentary bottles of water, an in-room safe and the staff were helpful. The challenge is that all the hotels in walking distance of the city centre are expensive.

Hotel was chosen specifically as our men were celebrating 50 years since joining TVP police service and Oxford Prison was a brilliant venue. Great hotel, quirky but so much fun. Restored from prison to hotel, retaining many original features. We stayed in cell 128, great room, very comfortable bed, wonderful deep bath and huge separate shower, with nice smelling products. We had dinner in the restaurant, table of six and we were impressed with the food and service, followed in the morning with a delicious cooked breakfast. Buffet available for cereal, coffee & toast. I loved the homemade granola, fruit compote with a thick creamy yogurt. Really well done!

My wife and I were excited to be staying at Malmaison in Oxford. We booked a 1 night stay in March 2024 and friends had also booked to stay. We arrived early and were told the room was ready and we could check in straight away, great start. Our room number was 130 on floor 5. We had a quick look around our prison cell rooms and the rest of the hotel and then went out to explore Oxford, before coming back to shower before our evening out. This is when we started noticing how many defects our room had. The bathroom was in need of maintenance and nothing worked well. The flush on the (chipped and repaired with silicone) toilet was faulty so you had to hold the buttons to get enough water to flush. The shower knobs were stiff so you had to force them to move. The shower head was covered in limescale and top covered in dust. The shower screen trim was hanging off so water leaked out. The sink was chipped, very cracked and scratched. The tap wobbled (needed tightening) and the plug wouldn’t lift so had to lift it with your finger nails to let the water drain. Then there were stains on the walls and black mould on the ceiling. In the bedroom above the window we noticed more black mould and how dirty the glass on the windows were (more black mould). I actually wrote the word DIRT with my finger on one of the small squares of glass. There were 2 large metal covers on the ceiling covering the air flow system, these were thick with dust. The furniture all needed a sand and repaint as it was chipped and scuffed. In the wardrobe the there was a shelf with a big square hole which was very unusual. There are no plug sockets next to the bed on either side, there are 2 USB sockets but all our chargers use USB C so we couldn’t plug anything in at the bedside. The things we liked about the hotel, in our room we enjoyed the lovely coffee/tea, comfortable bed and pillows and the dressing gowns. The public areas of the hotel are lovely including the bar. The staff were all very friendly. At check out we were asked if everything was ok with our stay to which we told them about the mould and broken fittings and said if we were staying another night we would’ve asked to move rooms. We were given a business card with the email address for the reception manager and told to contact her regarding our problems. It would be more proactive for the manager to talk to us straight away or to contact us, surely that would be better customer service. We paid £335.00 for 1 night in a prison cell room (room only, no breakfast) for what we thought would be a luxury night away but left feeling very disappointed & underwhelmed.

We stayed at the Malmaison hotel Oxford in March 2024. The customer service is amazing. They kept the bar open for us an hour after closing time as we were having such a good time. The decor is gorgeous, quite spooky but very modern and fashionable. The bed was very comfortable and there were lots of lovely thick pillows. The cocktails are also super tasty! We loved this hotel and would definitely recommend if you fancy something alternative and quirky. The hotel is also within walking distance of the shops, restaurants and bars.
