All lunch meals were £10 and seemed to be cooked to order as there was a long wait to get the food!

My fish and chips was large and chips were good. The batter was nice and crispy but rather oily. A pity it had not been drained.

Pease were an extra cost!

We visited here twice for a drink in the evening. This is a very nice pub. The building is full of atmosphere, there was a roaring fire, lots of regular locals enjoying a pint …everything you would like a local to be. The staff were very welcoming and made a great fuss of our dog. We would have loved the quiz night, but were not there on the Thursday! Good range of local and well kept beers.

On a recent visit to Woodstock we decided to have supper in the Star Inn. They do not take bookings but we arrived around 7pm and found a table close to the fire. The staff were friendly and helpful and our meal arrived promptly. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend.

Insipid and unsmiling if not surly service. Apparently soft drinks are served at room temperature with a couple of blocks of ice. When we asked we were reminded of this little known fact, I wasn't offered with any apology so perhaps the first 50 years of my life when soft drinks were served cold was a series of happy coincidences.

The sign outside promised homemade food using fresh ingredients. Of the food we ordered, we struggled to find anything that appeared to be home made. We dutifully ate our oven chips wondering why the bar had been covered with empty used glasses and bottles for nearly an hour.

The premises were rustic with oak beams. So some potential.

Been here twice now in the space of two days, nice pub, clean and friendly. Not the greatest gluten free choice, but the fish pie was wonderful and tasty. My friend had the venison pie and said it was lovely, just a shame the veg was lukewarm. Would definitely recommend and be back again soon!

Just got back home after really enjoying a 4 night stay at the inn. Was booked months ago, as they have only 4 rooms, and liked the look of the place, price was good, and the good reviews it had. We stayed in room 4, and was more than adequate, large enough for us, comfy, and quiet enough to sleep with the window open. Good range of toiletries in the bathroom, tea and coffee in room, decent freeview tele (not used much).....The whole 4 nights there were excellent, ate at the pub for 3 of the nights and all the meals were excellent, best fish and chips we have had for a long time, the ribs were massive, and the pies were awesome... Not a Massive range of choices on the menu, (to what we are used to up north), but that goes for all the pubs in the village..The breakfasts were very good too, cooked to our liking...Nice range of beers and wines, lots consumed !!!. Has a lovely patio garden out the back, and luckily it was warm enough to sit out in the evening, or at the tables at the front, and watch village life as it happened. It is only 2 mins walk to the gates of Blenheim house, or to the bus stop for regular bus to Oxford..
All the staff there are friendly, pleasant, and helpful,
Also to note, there are no parking restrictions in the whole village, contrary to what the signs say...so you can park free for the duration of the stay...
A couple of little negatives, the stairs up to the rooms are very steep, and awkward to go up and down, the wifi is free, but poor connectivity in bedroom, (not a major issue for us), and on a personal note, for some reason i like to have a little folder in the room, full of local leaflets of things to do and see in the area, (even though its all online !!!!). Didnt have one here....Also, after having meal, not a large bar area to chill out in, was quite full a lot of the time, very popular with the locals...
Any way, overall, a great stay, in a great little inn....Thank you all...

We were a group of 12 holding a lunch for a relative over from Canada who was looking forward to a British pub experience. We waited over an hour for food and our guest did not receive his food for a further half an hour. Some of our group waited for his food to arrive and ate their own meals cold. When his food finally arrived all he was offered was a complimentary drink eventhough he clearly had a full pint in his hand, it was most embarrassing. I also had to wait some time longer than the others for my meal and when it finally came it was a stone cold burger. While waiting about 10 minutes to send it back to the kitchen i had some of my niece's battered fish, leaving the leftover batter on the wooden chopping board plate. The waitress sent my plate back to the kitchen and some minutes later the exact same plate came back (still with the left over batter on it) chips now cold, exactly the same burger reconstructed and now hot but dry and unpalatable reheated. it looked like it had been pulled out of the bin and was inedible.
When we came to pay, we were charged in full for all of the meals. Two of us went to the bar and had an argument with the manager who was rude and surly. She disputed our complaints, begrudgingly agreeing to refund the burger but refusing to refund for our Canadian relative's meal.
The pub was busy and the kitchen had clearly gone into meltdown. There was no excuse for the manager's rude and arrogant treatment of our complaints.

Sadly our stay at this Inn was ruined by the reception and service that we received during breakfast time. The lady on duty, who I can only assume was the manager, was unwelcoming, unhelpful and rude. The uncomplicated breakfast that we ordered took 45 minutes to arrive, and was brought to us with no interaction, apology or explanation (if they were short staffed I wish they could have relayed this to us), but to top everything off the manager then instructed the cleaner to mop the floors around us and under our table while we were eating our breakfast making the whole place smell of disinfectant. On check -out, the same lady who was on duty during breakfast, was not even civil to us and clearly was not bothered about enquiring whether we had enjoyed our stay, but was plainly happy to receive the overpriced £110 paid. The service that we received during breakfast spoilt our whole stay at an otherwise pretty little Inn with a lovely room. I certainly would not go back to this Inn due to the rudeness of the manager on duty, let alone recommend it to others visiting Woodstock.

The Service was so bad even the Barman Jamie told us we'd be better off eating elsewhere. On the plus side when we finally got some food it was nice, but don't expect to be offered the chance to order drinks and pudding is out of the question.
