My friend and I stayed here after a gig on a Friday night. It was very cheap but so worth the stay! The beds were huge, the rooms clean and pleasantly decorated. The bathroom was big enough and the shower was large too. We were very impressed! The hotel boasts a 24 hour bar with games to play all night such as darts, pool, and other things. The only complaint we had was the curtains in our room (although thick and heavy) were not enough to block out the sunlight very early in the morning so we were awoken much earlier than anticipated. Unlike other reviews on here we had no issue with traffic noise or other room noise. We were very pleased - thank you.

The location of the hotel is superb! It's in the city but not in the noisy area. The price is worth the room's quality. I asked the staff to change my room because the room next door is very noisy. The staff were very friendly, and let me change the room.

This is our 2nd visit to this hotel. Central to all the shops and bars in Reading. The rooms are very spacious and clean. We particularly loved the bar area where you can play table tennis, pool, pinball machines etc for free. Lovely vibe. Mark and Marix were really friendly and accommodated our requests. We will be back again!

Spent 2 days one night at this hotel for a business meeting .Staff are pleasant and hotel is clean and it’s a short walk from Reading Train station .Thats the good qualities. But do not plan to eat there .We booked for a two course lunch . What we didn’t realise was that the lettuce leaves , sliced cucumber, cherry tomatoes and coleslaw and dry couscous (no flavouring ) constituted the first course 😡 It had been served next to the hot food but there was absolutely no indication that this was a starter I incorrectly assumed it was an alternative to the vegetable/ potato hot dish . Today we were given the same salad choice but the couscous had been changed for the strangest potato salad ever .I am a qualified chef and I cannot work out how the potatoes were prepared , the texture was graining and resembled polystyrene.( I couldn’t even eat it ) The main course choices were sloppy dishes with some kind of mince or beef in it .The pasta dish was pasta with all I can describe as tinned mushroom soup poured over it not a mushroom in sight . I will eat most foods but today I had to leave my meal and walk to Tescos to get a meal deal ( which I never buy ) as the food was unpalatable. Also my colleagues reported the scrambled eggs at breakfast tasted of rubber but as I didn’t eat them so I cannot confirm if this was the case . I suggest the hotel changes the menu and their chef .The chef should be ashamed of the food that was served and should definitely not ever class himself as a chef .The food served on the streets of Glasgow for the homeless is 5 star compared with food in this hotel .

Dear Scotty, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We're pleased to hear that our staff made a positive impression and that you found our hotel to be clean and conveniently located near Reading Train Station. We take pride in our cleanliness standards and our team's commitment to service. We're disappointed, however, to hear that your dining experience did not meet your expectations or the high standards we strive for. While our menu and chefs typically receive praise for their quality and presentation, as reflected in our diverse Pentalounge offerings, it seems we fell short during your visit. We value your feedback as a qualified chef and are taking your comments seriously. Rest assured that our aim is to provide all our guests with a satisfying dining experience, and we regret that we missed the mark for you and your colleagues. We hope to welcome you back for an improved experience in the future. Best wishes, Pentahotel Management Team

Rooms could do with a bit of a refurb and an iron on tap! All in all I would 100% recommend this place to a friend.

There was excessive noise from the traffic outside. Although the window didn't open, it clearly wasn't sealed properly - it was draughty and the noise was louder than it should have been. My colleagues had the same issue in their rooms. Room decor looked very cheap. There was long delays waiting for bowls at breakfast each morning.

On business in Reading , so a one night hotel stay. Got to room, unpacked, rang my wife and then straight out for food. Room is very large by todays hotel room standards. Decor is quite teenager’ish curios way. Very large comfortable double bed with a separate quilt for each side. Now getting to sleep.... The noise from the street was amazing, you could clearly hear conversations 3 floors down. The road traffic noise was steady as well. The odd inebriated person also spoiled the quiet. I am an engineer and checked the window 3 times to see if it wasn’t shut properly. Also lots of draft that the heating dealt with OK. When working away , all I want is a good nights sleep. Having a shave/wash, some of the water from the tap leaks onto the vanity unit causing a big puddle so you have to careful where you sit your stuff. The breakfast wasn't the best experience, sat down on a table that had been set, and noticed that the knife had been used by someone else. Yuck. I watched the fried eggs keep on frying for at least 10 mins and to top it off there was no bacon! All I really want is a bacon sandwich in the morning. IN checkout another quest was complaining about the noise and lack of heating. When I mentioned this , the operative looked at the screen and said "Yes there is a problem with the window frame and it has be notified to maintenance' and dismissed it. I don't usually write reviews but I thought I would share my poor experience.

I stay here probably 2 to 3 times a year. Check in was great and a spacoous room whoch was clean. The overwhelming choking marijuana smell on level 2 and my level 5 was so bad that when you opened the room window it literally sucked it from the hallway into the room. It the morning they had tried to febreeze it away but it was bad. Brekkie was alright but busy and had to ask for veggie and things were running out or not there like ketchup. Staff were buzzing about though. Bed was comfy but the duvet for me was too small and i got cold in the night 🌙 I dont know if id stay again as the smells really set off my allergies so i may be switching to malmaision in future

I had high hopes for this place but it was such a let down. At first I thought I was staying at a forward thinking modern hotel which would offer a great service and great product but sadly that was the case. Check in was Ok, there were a few staff members lingering around and whilst they were polite they weren’t very friendly, unless they were just chatting to each other. The room was quite spacious and was clean. The bed was massive, duvet and pillow comfy and the shower had some really decent pressure to it, although a bit too much that not flooding the floor was impossible. The decor is odd and at first seems quirky but after an hour in the room it seems odd and like something you would find in the children’s reduced to clear section of Ikea. The hotel is centrally located and that makes it very noisy, I could hear cars and conversation from outside like I was sleeping on the street. The air con was also pretty loud and sounded like bongo drums in the night, I had to turn it off to try and get more sleep and then realised it wasn’t doing anything in relation to regulation the temperature. The shower also gargled repeatedly day and night. The bathroom was very clean but there was no where to fully hang a towel after using it. I did try using the bar holding the glass shower screen in place but as I did I noticed the bar was just sat onto the glass screen and wasn’t supporting it at all. In the end I used the rail in the “wardrobe” My room key didn’t work the 2nd night and the reception advised it was only set up for 1 night, no apology and made to feel like an inconvenience to staff for breaking up their chit chat session with each other. The TV has a good selection of channels and a ton of features all “blocked - please contract reception” so you have to walk to reception for permission to use everything. The food is worse than the cheapest meal you could find at a Wetherspoon. First off I wanted room service and the room service info says “dial 0 from your room phone” but there isn’t one so you have to walk down to the bar to order which took forever despite just 3 people being in front of me. The gent serving me couldn’t find anything on the till and kept forgetting everything I asked for. When I asked for it to be charged to me room (for the2nd time) he shouted to reception broadcasting my room number to check if I could do that. The food did arrive quickly but without condiments and Cutley. The quality was awful and didn’t match the description of the menu at all. I had a £30 company allowance and paid £15 myself as I went over as the cost is so high. The food I had wasn’t worth the £15 I paid towards it alone. It was so bad I didn’t risk eating there again and used a takeaway next door for better quality and value. And to think I paid a room service fee for food you can’t even order from your room. There is only one dessert item on offer and that wasn’t available. I orderedone of the milkshakes which was described as “crumbled jamie dogers, raspberry jam” what arrived was literally a glass of milk with one Jamie dodger on the side of the glass…£8!!!! All food was cheap budget food with a premium price tag. Breakfast was just as bad. On the first day I couldn’t see any staff presence and I even had to clear a table for myself. Most of the “hot” food was barely warm and there was no management of cleanliness around the food, some of the utensils for self service clearly needed changing, for example the one for beans had a massive amount of dry crusty beans stuck to it. Some food items needed restocking but there was no sign of this happening at all. The 2nd day I went at a different time and whilst I was able to get a clean table the food was colder than the day before. I feel the biggest issue is you they auto add 10% to food and drink bills for the staff so the staff know they are getting a bonus without making any effort, this to me explains the laid back we don’t care attitude I generally found. Theres alot more hotel options in the area, take them don’t waste your money here.
