Detailed Reviews
A 5* experience throughout our 3 night stay here. The room oozed luxury: from the Penhaligon’s toiletries to the overall decor of our room; a soft bed in any hotel would not go amiss and our’s made us sleep so well. Whoever oversees the hotel (and I give praise to housekeeping too) definitely thought of every small detail as I did not need to contact front desk for anything!
Food was amazing: breakfast is 10/10! Dinner on our first night was also superb: we were looked after by Malcolm and in spite being covered by a mask, we felt welcome in his presence and he was a remarkable attendant throughout the service.
Nyssa at front desk was also phenomenal: she looked after us well and again, was so kind. She didn’t hesitate to answer any question we may have had. She also gave me a courtesy call after I checked in to see if the room was up to my expectations (In fact, it exceeded everything)!
Lastly, everything was clean. All members of staff I’ve encountered were masked and wore gloves, social distancing was being practiced and sanitiser was available at every point of service. There is nothing to fault with my stay here—and as I’ve said on my private review and note already, the members of staff are the real stars of the hotel. I guess it’s subjective but a 5* experience FOR ME does not simply revolve around a luxe room and it’s amenities. Service probably makes up more than half of that experience.
We will be back again and will always recommend this hotel to anybody!

I am so pleased that you found the room suitable for you and had an amazing rest. In regards of the food, the compliments have been shared with the Chef and he is looking forward to welcoming you in the nearest future. Our stay was lovely! Friendly check in staff that were very helpful. Room was gorgeously decorated with a very comfortable HUGE bed. Some minor issues with toilet seat cracked and tiles around shower drain cracked but overall very comfortable stay. Lots of storage within the room & love the Penhaligon’s toiletries and the coffee machine. Could occasionally hear the alarms & voices of the room next door via the door that adjoins the two but nothing that disturbed us.
We were slightly disappointed that the steam room was broken/out of action during our stay. The first night we went we were told it was broken. Expected it might have been fixed that day, but it was still broken the next day! One of the reasons that we chose the hotel was to enjoy the steam room and sauna so was disappointed about not being able to use the steam room. The Sauna was nice & it was great to have a private small sauna to ourselves, but the only problem is, there is nowhere private to get changed. No changing rooms apart from the toilet or shower room. Both days we went to the sauna, there was no shower gel within the shower room either which was annoying.
Dinner was delicious and very accommodating to our dietary needs. The cocktails here are amazing! Such a wide selection of really cool flavours! Breakfast was tasty! The Sunday morning we had to ask for a A la Carte menu because only buffet breakfast was out. We were accommodated though and again, very tasty!
Slightly annoyed at the high parking price. I knew this when booking but the car park is literally on the sight of the hotel and I don’t feel I should be charged when I’m a paying customer of a hotel.
Overall, a lovely stay in an exquisitely decorated hotel. Right in the centre of town so brilliant location.

Dear Giggy1677, Thank you for taking the time to describe your whole experience with us and for praising our team. We put customer experience and satisfaction as our priority and your kind words reaffirm the hard work we put in every day. It is pleasing to read that you had a great experience with our team and that you enjoyed the luxurious comfort of your room. The comments in regards to the dinner are much appreciated and have been shared with our Head Chef. Unfortunately, due to a power surge which was beyond our control, we had to close the steam room and ensure it is being checked by a competent person and that it was safe before it is being used by our guest. We very much look forward to welcoming you back with us on many more occasions. Kind regards Vicky Punchaye General Manager

I booked a hotel in Reading as I was going in for surgery and I live in Banbury so I was looking for somewhere to recover and recuperate, sadly the hotel I booked was shut down by the government for people to isolate.
I was so upset but they told me not to worry they would book me in with another hotel I didn’t know what to expect but the Roseate absolutely blew me away.
This hotel was amazing full of character and class, I would like to firstly Thank the most wonderful lady Nyssa always with a smile on her face went out of her way to make sure we had everything for the most comfortable and relaxing stay I really couldn’t of asked for a better stay.
We stayed in the suite with the copper bath and it was the most relaxing beautiful and comfortable room that came with luxury white robes, slippers, toiletrys and towels Fresh filtered water in the mini bar and just with a press of a button on the phone they bring drinks and anything you ask for.
Location is perfect literaly 5 minutes walk from the train station through the lovely town and a beautiful park situated right out front. A Restaurant the Reading room looking Morden and serving exquisite food to offer and also the Secret garden out the back just a beautiful little spot.
To the gentleman that opened the doors for us, to the ladies bringing our breakfasts and new towels Thankyou all.
This place is Top class with a cinema and library to beautiful chandeliers and pianos This hotel is complete luxury and class I was extremely sad to come home. Thankyou again to the Roseate and their wonderful staff can’t wait to come back. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I stayed at the Roseate for work purposes, it was the most wonderful experience I have had to date. I have been to a good few 4-5* hotels within the UK and abroad, but none compare to the Roseate. From the charming rooms to the kind staff, there is absolutely no reason not to stay here. I stayed for around 3 weeks, not intentionally, but work kept me in the city, and I was happy to stay each time. The first room I stayed in was in the main building. Before even booking a room, I went to view the hotel and Nisa, the lovely lady at reception treated me like an old friend, she was so kind and welcoming, I decided that this was the place for me to stay straight away. On my first night, I didn't know how to use the safe and Kristopher, the man on reception was so helpful, also bringing me water and an extension plug. Towards the end of my first week at the Roseate, I had a personal issue which was dealt with so professionally by Nathan, another night time receptionist, who is really kind and due to the timing of the issue, I was offered an extended checkout, which was amazing.
My second week and the second room was even more luxurious, which I didn't think was possible, the room was bigger, the bathroom huge and the customer service impeccable. When I asked for tea and biscuits, I stated I would come down to get them and Kristopher brought them up for me. The same thing happened when I ordered food, which is another bonus as most times I was in meetings.
My third week was the best and most wonderful. I had booked in for my last week in the city and this time stayed in the more modern building. I was absolutely astounded by the size and quality of the room. Not to downplay the charm and beauty of the main building, but the newest building is my absolute favourite. The space is amazing, imagine a studio, just without the kitchen. The view from the room overlooked the back of the hotel, which wasn't an issue as I could still see the city in the distance. I was much closer to the gym, which was fantastic, as it was clean and empty most times. The view from the gym is also breathtaking and shouldn't be missed by anyone. The best part about this room was definitely the fact that it was cheaper, but the quality was on par with (if not higher than) the main building!
I believe the prices I paid were completely and utterly fair and reasonable. Each room upgrade I received was at a lower price, I assume this is due to the length of time in which I stayed at the hotel, along with booking directly with the hotel. I thank Nisa, Nathan and Kristopher for all their help and kindness during my stay.
I have no review for the restaurant as I had no time to go and eat there, however, I did order breakfast on the last day of staying, which happened to fall on my birthday. The pan au Chocolat was to die for, along with the delicious vegetarian sausages, fruit bowl and array of juices, drinks and spreads. I have never been so impressed with breakfast before!
I look forward to bringing more family and friends to the roseate in the future. It's a magical and classy place to stay whilst in reading.

£20 per day for very limited number of small parking spaces in rear parking area when you can find it after negotiating traffic system is outrageous.
On first arriving by car at the front entrance a passenger had to alight, ascend steps and enquire at reception because no signage to car park.
We got a typed note from reception also with written instructions, no diagram or map, to public car parking
Not an auspicious start.
Eventually, we entered the hotel lobby from parking area in fact walking through lower floor restaurant during service to check-in at reception.
Awarded a cool drink to welcome guests who have become hot and bothered with baggage carrying.
One tiny lift to all floors.
Largest suite and adjacent rooms have a noisy free-standing fan not aircon in former old Reading town hall building.
Shabby rooms and in need of decoration; net curtains had wear holes in the fabric. Chair arm fabric worn out.
TV and remote control failed to function. No radio.
Bed was comfortable and large size.
House "annex" rooms have aircon, all decorated and TVs that work. Lower priced rooms too.
Breakfast was a buffet service and a limited choice, typical of a chain motel.
Chairs were uncomfortable and basic furnishing.
Staff were always helpful and attentive when needed, but probably too few of them in ratio to guests.
Overall we were dissatisfied at the price.
This is not a luxury hotel and certainly not above 3 in the arbitrary UK grading system of 5.
Accommodation and price were not commensurate.
Gym has some hardly adequate equipment (only light weights) so not a facility of note.
One hotel and Roseate group to be avoided in future.

Had an amazing experience at The Roseate for my mum's birthday.
Booked to stay in a regular suit which was upgraded on arrival as a treat for my mum's birthday.
The birthday treatment didn't stop there, when entering the room there was a chocolate and card adorning the table in the room.
The hotel also purchased helium balloons for the occasion (I paid for them on arrival).
We enjoyed an afternoon tea in the restaurant and breakfast too. Both were gorgeous and had good service.
Receptionists were friendly and sweet, and checked on us after checking to assure that everything in the room was up to standard.
Room was stunning with modern and sleek decor/furnishing. All cleaned to an amazing standard.
Really impressed and cannot wait to visit again someday.
Thank you Roseate.

I have been staying at the Roseate over the last four weeks.
The central location is perfect. The town centre is a short walk away.
The hotel is truly excellent.
I have stayed in the main hotel throughout, in a variety of rooms. They are described as "luxury'' rooms and very much live up to that label. They are beautifully decorated and furnished. Each has its own character and design. Bathrooms are modern, clean and very inviting. The cleanliness in the rooms is faultless and the housekeeping staff are very attentive to any requests.
The restaurant and bar offer quality food and service.
The thing that sets this hotel apart is the exceptional nature of the staff. I cannot recall receiving service of this level at any hotel in the UK.
It is quite apparent that all of the staff take real pride in what they do and in the organization that they represent. Guests are treated as individuals and the staff make a point of remembering names of guests. The staff are very keen to "go the extra mile" and have "can do" attitude.
I reserve special praise for the front desk staff. In particular, I should like to name 'Nyssa', who has made a huge effort to make me feel welcome throughout my stay. She has been unfailingly polite and courteous. She is charming and most helpful. She clearly enjoys her role and takes real pride in providing a very high level of service to her guests. She is plainly a huge asset to the organisation.
Overall, this is a gem of a hotel. My stay has been faultless.

We visited the Roseate Reading for one night this past weekend; we’d been looking to get away and the hotel came up on Secret Escapes. After debating whether we would need breakfast at the hotel (which was included in the SE slightly higher price), we decided against it and to therefore book directly with the hotel. However, a quick search showed a decent saving on Booking.com so booked through them instead.
I’d called the hotel in the week to check whether there were any massages available through the spa, and was informed they were fully booked, yet I could still book the sauna and steam room, which I did. On arrival we were told that the sauna wasn’t working, and when we asked whether the hotel would provide something for the inconvenience, the receptionist looked aghast and bluntly told us that we couldn’t have our room refunded due to not booking directly through the hotel; this absolutely wasn’t what we had meant, and it was quite affronting. Eventually, they reluctantly gave us a voucher for 2 glasses of Prosecco from the bar.
We were still able to use the steam room, however, when we arrived at our stated time there were no staff in sight to allow us entry. We spent around 15 minutes trying to find someone to allow us entry, and eventually a staff member stumbled upon us and buzzed us into the area. Considering that treatments were supposed to be fully booked, the spa was deserted.
The room itself was quite basic, with minimal tea and coffee available. The sheets were clean, however, the bed wasn’t terribly comfortable; certainly not more so than my bed at home.
On redeeming our complimentary Prosecco in the bar we asked for water as it was upwards of 30 degrees that day, which was provided rather reluctantly, compared to the table next to us which received theirs garnished with fruit and ice.
Considering this was supposed to a 5* hotel, it was severely lacking in both service and amenities; much more in line with a 3*.
On booking we had a view to potentially book a weekend in the London branch for massages on our return home, however, judging from our experience this weekend I believe that the Roseate won’t be receiving our custom in the future.

Dear Caro, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review following your stay with us at The Roseate Reading. I was naturally very sorry to read your feedback this morning, and to know that you left the hotel with such disappointment. Unfortunately, due to a power surge which was beyond our control, we had to close the sauna and ensure it is being checked by a competent person and that it was safe before it is being used by our guest. And can confirm that this has now been done. I do wish we could have been made aware of the issue, so that we could have proactively and quickly resolved this for you as we have Duty Manager at all times. Nevertheless, I shall be grateful if you could please contact me on vicky.punchaye@roseatehotels.com to restore your faith in our service level and standard I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards Vicky Punchaye General Manager

I booked 1 night as an anniversary break for my wife and I. I cannot rate the hotel and front drsk staff highly enough. Friendly and helpful to a fault. From the concierge who carried our bags to theroom service who could not hand been more pleasant, everything went well.
The room was just like the photographs, spotlessly clean and everything worked. Very comfortable beds and even an anniversary card and complimentary chocolates awaited our arrival Only one night but I could not rate it higher.
The restaurant was a slightly different experience but hard to describe negatively. Food was delicious... absolutely delicious, but the portions were a little small for the rather hefty prices. The Beef was £31 but only two small pieces and the cheese platter at £15 for dessert had five small slices of nothing different, a small cheeseboard you would make up at home. Service was very efficient but lacked personality. They brought the wrong side dish and blamed the kitchen without apology for misreading the ticket then charged for both dishes again without apology. It felt like a restaurant charging London Michellin prices without quite reaching that level. It was £170 for two of us with a £26 bottle of wine. A shame really. But the food was delicious. I woud return to the hotel in a heartbeat, but not necessarily eat at the restaurant for dinner

Good afternoon, we have limited car spaces on site and it's on a first come first park basis. The postcode for the car park is RG1 3BE. If the car park is full our receptionist will give you alternative car park which is only 6 to 7 minutes walk from the hotel. Thank you.
Good afternoon, we do have twin beds at the hotel. Can we assist you with your reservation?
Thank you
I agree, you can dress up. A friend of our says, as a rule, you can never be overdressed, only underdressed!
