Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Came in for a sunday dinner last weekend. Truly awful microwaved veg - no flavour and just plain soggy! My friend had the Steak and Ale pie from the 'Specials' and that was quite obviously microwaved too! The only part of either meal that was any good was the chips..! Used to be a great pub, but it looks run down and has really gone downhill... As for the service, the barman (the dark haired one with the beard) was just plain rude and unhelpful. Choice of beer was limited at best, ended up having a Guinness, worst pint I've had in years. I've had better from a can at home. Will not be coming back ever again. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!

Well populated for dinner times meals. Good variety menu at the right price. Pleasant staff & very clean throughout. Good parking area & the views are spectacular over the open countryside. Can highly recommend this pub for socialising & meeting up after a walk. Thank you to all the staff,

The evening we went the weather was beautiful and the Strines location offers views to die for on such favourable climatic conditions! The menu was quite comprehensive and reasonably priced. 3 of the 4 meals ordered were good but the meal that came with chips wasn’t great as the chips were burnt and soggy. The person who ordered that was convinced that the frying oil was too old. No evidence to support this save she is a dedicated “chipaholic!”. The table we ate at really could have done with a good cleaning as it was extremely sticky. Staff were pleasant and food arrived reasonably promptly after ordering.

Called here after a walk and was not disappointed. Our food came and it looked and tasted beautiful. The steak and ale pie was gorgeous and the lasagne the best I've had. Reasonably priced. Great service. Dog friendly. If out that way again will certainly call back.

Called for lunch and couldn’t fault the food, especially the steak and ale pie or the beef filled giant Yorkshire pudding, plus the staff were extremely friendly. However the bar and dining areas were very scruffy and in need of a good clean. I accept that there was major roof refurbishment being carried out but it appeared that the interior hadn’t seen a cleaner for some time. The toilets were really smelly and in desperate need of disinfectant - not at all pleasant !

Had dinner here one night with my boyfriend. Not sure if this place is missing a chef or if the chef is inexperienced? Yorkshire puddings we’re not homemade, salmon over cooked (could have done a better job myself), did not enjoy lamb and mint burger, we ordered 2 items off the specials menu thinking they would be one of the best, however, the best thing on our plates was the freshly prepared chopped salad. Toilets unclean, rough looking and dusty with cobwebs.

We stayed overnight in a lovely room. Had a nice meal in the evening. The whole experience was very enjoyable and would love to stay again. The rooms are full of character spacious and comfortable. Wonderful to see the peacock in the morning with their young.

This used to be a Rustic, Historic Pub. It still is. But it's gone beyond Rustic, it's now just filthy. Pride has left the pub. The carpets are filthy. The seat covers are filthy. The paintwork is filthy. Every plant pot outside is full of cigarette butts. The pub sign is decaying. The outdoor seating is tatty. There are random metal bins in front of the pub. The paint is pealing off the windows. What was once a nice rustic country pub, is now simply, in need of some investment. It's tatty, and dirty. Rustic does not compensate for dirty.

Called in one Sunday late afternoon and although the pub was busy we were soon shown to a table and our order taken. The food arrived promptly and was very good, one of us had the roast beef and the other had steak pie which were both plentiful and came with fresh vegetables and roast potatoes. The pub is very old and atmospheric and the staff were friendly.

I had a wonderful steak and ale pie with a variety of really well-cooked vegetables. We had not been for a while due to covid. Happily nothing had changed. The food was just as good as we remembered and the charming decor and atmosphere had remained. I would recommend this pub unreservedly.
