Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here as a family, party of 8 in 4 rooms. We were given rooms directly opposite a conservatory in which there was a party the night we stayed. The music (90s/00s dance) played until 12:30, it literally felt like the DJ was in the room with us, even with the TV on. I have no problem with people enjoying themselves, I just think we could have been given other rooms or made aware of this when we booked. This really did have a negative impact on our weekend away as we were shattered the next day. Emailed hotel over a week ago about this and still no response..,,.just be cautious if you are wanting a relaxing break!

The rooms were amazing in size and quality. Bed really comfy. The staff were so friendly too. It was so not what we were expecting. It reminded me of being on holiday with the little areas. Very pleased with it and will definitely be stating again

Came here for works Xmas do. Only 30ish of us. The soup was bland. Watery. Insipid. As for the braised lamb shank, it was tough. Again, bland. No seasoning at all. I left it. Those who had the chicken, left it as it was dry. The veg was individually portions. Very overcooked, left in the steamer too long. No salt and pepper, mint sauce, cranberry sauce on the tables. I water was offered. The dessert was ok. Bought in but that’s expected. It was easier to get it right than it was to ruin our Xmas party. We certainly will not be returning next year.

The Garrison have just had their 1st,New Years, evening event and what a wonderful evening it turned out to be.From the start the premises were nice and warm and so were the charming staff, who, I would like to say to them, a big Thank you. They sacrifice their evening so we could be fed and entertained. The meal was rost beef & veg. then sweet, absolutley beautiful. The night was 007 J Bond themed with a roulette wheel & black jack table in operation and the biggest winner receiving a bottle of champagne. Also, their was a magician, calling at each table, performing a host of tricks, with unbeliveable wizardry.A wonderful, relaxing evening and last but not least, the music mix, suited all the ages present. Thank you again. D. Booth.

Just spent a great New Year’s Eve at the Garrison . The room was lovely and had everything you needed. Really enjoyed the James Bond themed night. We played roulette(with pretend money) which got everybody involved. The meal was lovely, disco spot on and all the staff were friendly and super efficient. The only negative is that it was very quiet for a New Year’s Eve, should have been more people there. Anyway, their loss! was a great night. 🥳

Unfortunately my experience of the Garrison on Christmas Day lunch was extremely disappointing. The table we had was pretty cramped for 14 people, although I understand it’s a busy day I do think the staff could have cleared the 14 unused wine glasses away as we didn’t order any wine. Also all the Christmas cracker rubbish could have been removed. The staff were miserable with no personality and untrained. When you know that you are serving young children maybe don’t give them a red hot plate! There was absolutely no interaction from any of the staff and considering Christmas Day is such a special day and a very expensive one I feel that you maybe need to look at what your offering. The food was ok, nothing special, but not once did we get anyone ask if everything was ok so I assume you already know that what your offering isn’t that great. I was out with my family and didn’t want to spoil the day by saying anything at the time but I’m sure I am not the only one that came away disappointed. I know the hospitality industry is a hard one at this time of year but a few smiles and some interaction with customers (maybe a little retraining) is all it takes sometimes and isn’t very difficult.

Friends anniversary meal. Turned up and staff couldn't find order, asked if it was booked. (Booked and large deposit paid). Blamed other staff for booking. Back and forth to table with papers to recheck order. At the end of the evening one staff member said bill could be split and we had to pay at the bar. Went to pay, was told couldn't pay as deposit had been added. When we insisted staff member walked off in a huff. Came back and worked our bill out and we paid. Wouldn't recommend anyone eat here till staff have been retrained in how to deal with customers.

Firstly the price of this hotel considering there is free parking and breakfast included is amazing. The rooms were clean and the bed comfy. We ate in the bar and the food wasn’t bad at all but the staff were very busy talking in the kitchen area where we could see them but didn’t acknowledge us. Once they came out they appeared like they were in a mood but eventually warmed up! Bit of light coming in through the curtains from the outside lighting, but once asleep I slept soundly minimal road noise. Beautiful old building but not enough is made of its history, get rid of the small butterfly pics on the walls and get some big old pictures of the building. Breakfast has a a help yourself continental selection, there was a really hard working young girl working the dining room who didn’t stop. She was helped by an older lady who was disinterested and seemed quite exhausted by it all. The cooked selection took quite a while to come out 30 mins but was very nice when we got it. If you are going to the arena then this venue is perfect as it was a 12 minute drive back but I did hear some people saying they were getting the tram from near by. Petrol station and supermarket across the road and McD’s behind for the midnight mcflurries! I would stay again because of the value for money
