Nice stay, shame about the parking
We stayed here for a wedding in the adjacent Town Hall, couldnt have been more convenient. Check in was smooth and friendly. The room on the 6th floor, reached by a pretty fast elevator, was spotless although a few more drawers would be handy for anybody staying longer that overnight. Being so high gave us a view over the Winter Gardens and away from any outside noise. The bed was large and very comfortable, the pillows not quite to our liking but thats just a personal view (Premier Inn ones prefered). Parking is not on site but only a short walk away which brings me to the one gripe we encountered. We used the Arundel Gate car park as advised and reception gave us a ticket to reduce the cost by 50 percent. However it failed to work and we had to pay £22 rather than £11 for an overnight stay. Ive emailed the hotel but so far without a response. We didnt have breakfast at the hotel but can highly reccomend Bill's Restaurant about 50m away, a delicious Full English and plenty of coffee did the trick on Sunday morning. Would I stay at the hotel again, probably yes but the cost of parking would make me think hard about doing so

Poor value for money
We stay at this hotel quite often and its not as good as it thinks it is. When we checked in we were told the swimming pool was not available, and as that's the only reason for choosing the Mercure over the other standard business hotels in Sheffield city centre I was very annoyed that we had not been informed about this in advance. The rooms are rather bland and tired, and as in so many hotels these days we were expected to eke out 2 tea bags in our room, and two of the smallest biscuits I have ever seen. The free drink at the bar which comes with Club Accor membership only runs to beer and house wine, the latter is very poor quality, considering this is a French hotel chain. Breakfast is passable although my husband bemoans the lack of black pudding. Service was poor, no plates were cleared at all. And for this we paid the princely sum of £192 on a Tuesday in January. I think we'll go back to the Premier Inn.

Great stay for one night, but could easily stay longer
Great hotel and in a great location. We live local but stayed in the city for Valentines Evening, as a treat.
The hotel staff were great and room was really comfortable.
There was no need for taxis because it's right in the city centre which meant we saved money on travel.

I always find it strange when hotels of this calibre still insist on not putting fresh milk in rooms. The room had a fridge, but still we had little milk capsules.
I know this might seem like a minor point, but after a long day of being out you just want to come back to your room and make a great cup of tea and coffee and that's not possible with milk capsules.

stayed here for the 4th time visiting sheffield,
we like this place we asked for a quiet room got the fourth floor the room was equipped fora disabled person and it was very noisy. as for the spa and night out in the town, was a bit disappointed this time round the spa has gone down a bit it was dirty showers full of hair and floor wasn’t clean no staff around to pick the towels that people had just left all over slippers too.
children in the sauna as young as 10 shouldn’t be allowed although this could do with sorting we would stay again the town is great pubs bars and restaurants lots to do.

In need of an upgrade
Stayed for one night. When ringing the hotel to check the availability of an accessible room the receptionist was very helpful giving details of the wheelchair acess to the hotel, room facilities and nearby parking.
When checking in, our room wasn't ready, we were a little bit early, the receptionist offered to look after our bags and gave me instructions of how to find the local car park, plus a discount ticket for the parking. So far so good.
We couldnt get into the bar area to start with as there were 4 empty tables with reserved signs on them plus a wedding party.
According to the hotel website there is a champagne bar, but in reality it's just the main bar with one type of rosè champagne.
The bar server was a lovely Italian man who made us very welcome and was helpful and charming. Nothing was too much trouble. We had drinks at the outside terrace, sitting in the sunshine, people watching, a nice spot, the service was top notch, friendly and efficient.
It always makes me wonder why accessible hotel rooms are very often so far down corridors?
The room had a lovely view over the rooftops of some beautiful old buildings. The facilities were fairly standard. The bed extremely comfortable. The pillows thin and past their usefulness. There was a big stain on the carpet near the dressing table area. The bathroom had all the accessibity we needed but was in shoddy state. The wooden skirting board was rotted and falling apart at the door inside the bathroom. The grab rails in the shower had fittings that were coming away from the wall. The room is a wetroom and after our shower the toilet area was flooded. Luckily we didn't need to use this.
Breakfast was weird. No-one to greet you or show you to your table. Choice of help yourself cereals etc and cooked breakfast. The staff were lacklustre. They looked worn out and unhappy. There was no cutlery, took 10 mins to poach 2 eggs. No butter, another 10 mins. Such unhappy staff.
When leaving the room we had to ask the housekeeper to move her trolley out of the way as we couldn't get by in the wheelchair. This was done ungracefully.
This hotel is not a cheap place to stay, it's in a great area for restaurants, the Crucible etc.
It's in urgent need of a lick of paint and some repairs to room 527.
The Italian barman was working twice as hard as most othe staff we encountered.

Works Christmas party
Stayed overnight due to work Christmas party booked here. Everyone who booked to stay had different prices to pay, apparently this was dependent on when you booked in. The manager did attend Reception when we all queried this, but said he could do nothing. Rooms were comfortable and had everything you needed for overnight stay. Our extra bed was a put up bed, which was very low to the floor and not comfortable. Never had this when stayed elsewhere, always a proper bed. Not enough cups, milk etc for 3 people, so had to call Reception. The staff I came across were all lovely and helpful. We used the spa and had booked a foot massage and pedicure, the staff who did this were really lovely. The party room was downstairs, which we used last year, perfect venue. The downside was the food, nothing special and seemed undercooked, we did mention this to the staff serving us. Breakfast was ok, good choice of food, but everything seemed luke warm. Don't think I would choose to stay here again. If a group of people are booking for a particular event, then the hotel should have a rate that everyone pays. Double rooms where paying more than triple rooms, and some rooms got complimentary breakfast, when other people didn't! How does that work? Not a good business idea, when every one talks and finds out who's paid what. Other hotels in the area better and cheaper in my opinion from experience.

Wonderful anniversary overnight stay and accommodation for local concert
We stayed here for anniversary and also to attend a local concert. The hotel left a wonderful complimentary card for our anniversary. I had rose petals put out on the bed which looked wonderful, the rooms were very comfortable, the bathroom had a very large walk in shower and a seperate bath. The food was wonderful and the spa and swimming pool was excellent. The whole facilities were excellent an we will definately be returning. The gardens next to the hotel are also a beautiful touch to the hotel

Christmas Dinner
When my sister in law told me she had booked St Pauls for Christmas Dinner I was so excited. How disappointed were we. When we arrived we were served half glasses of prosecco. There was no soft drinks for the two that were underage and one none drinker in our party. We were told to purchase soft drinks at the bar even though it was meant to be drinks on arrival!
When we sat down for lunch our first course arrived. The seafood cocktail was warm as if it had been left out. Also there was definitely no salmon in there as was stated on the menu. The next course was the soup. Warm lumpy apple juice I would have called it. It was terrible. The main course was missing the stuffing. We had one slice of meat and what can only be described a charred vegetables. The roast potatoes were so burnt there was no potato in them. They were just burnt shells. Again very little of them. My father in law had the fish. It was so small we thought it was a childs portion. My sister in law was giving him food from her plate. The dessert was chocolate tart that was absolutely beautiful. But my father in law had poached pear and again as stated on the menu was missing the berries and cream. The cheese and biscuits were diabolical. The cheese was hard and was starting to crack it had been left out that long. I asked for mine to be changed and received a piece that was worse than what I'd sent back. I can't fault the people that served us they were lovely. Especially Owan.
As a family we had a lovely day but the food was an absolute let down. I would say mediocre at best.
My sister in law has been coming for many years and has never experienced anything like it.
I'd doubt we will be booking again. Very very dissatisfied.

Brilliant treatments. Poor facilities.
Been to the spa today with my mum. This was a gift from Christmas from Buy A Gift. When arriving at the spa reception I was greeted by staff that were not helpful. I felt i had interrupted their conversation by standing at the front desk. They proceeded to tell us to go downstairs to the spa and didn’t give us much information leaving us feeling uncomfortable.
The spa facilities arein need of a little TLC. The steam room was making a very loud noise which wasn’t relaxing, the experience showers were not working correctly and the place generally felt ‘shabby’. The spa was also overcrowded meaning we had to wait to use the sauna and pool. You also have to go upstairs into the reception to get any refreshments as these are not available in the spa. Meaning you constantly have to get dried/go out of the facilities. On the other hand, the treatments we had (facials) were lovely and can’t fault the staff who did these for us. Unfortunately will not be returning to this spa in the future as many other local spas are a lot better and value for money.

Great stay but Rooms need refurbishing
This is our 3rd annual stay here when visiting from New Zealand. We stayed here in July 2019. We travel to the UK/Europe for 6 weeks every year and always choose mid-range to luxury properties. The rooms are getting rather tired looking and with a refurb this could be the place to stay in Sheffield. The staff are always friendly at every interaction throughout the hotel but with lots of more modern options maybe this won't be our first choice in the future.
