Nestled in the heart of the city, Leopold Hotel Sheffield is celebrated for its lively atmosphere and spotless premises. Guests commend its central location, which is convenient for exploring local shops and entertainment, though some have pointed out that the buzz of the city can lead to noise issues and parking can be tricky. While the spacious and clean rooms are a plus, a few guests suggest that they could benefit from modernization and warming touches. Despite the high prices for breakfast and parking, the attentive service and quality bedding are frequently applauded.

For a city centre location this hotel has great kerb appeal and an enviable location for surrounding shops, bars and nightlife. We travel regularly to Sheffield, but this was our first stay at this hotel - booked on recommendation. We were very much looking forward to sitting in the hotel bar and spending some time with family members meeting us there. Sadly, on arrival there was a wedding in progress and the pre-dinner drinks were taking place in the hotel bar and reception area. This meant that on arrival I could not actually find the reception desk. When I eventually discovered it, after moving through the throng of wedding guests, it was unmanned! I waited patiently for approximately 10 minutes amongst the partygoers until a flustered receptionist returned. She gave us our room key and some other instructions which I couldn't hear and was then immediately accosted by a gentleman who was complaining about the wedding guests in the foyer, leaving us to wander aimlessly with our luggage around the hotel searching for our room. Once we found it, we deposited our bags in a perfectly adequate hotel room and made our way back to the foyer to meet our family members. On our way back to the foyer I was bowled over in the corridor by wedding party children running around! When we met our family members they had been told that the hotel bar was out of use as the wedding reception party were using it, we could come back if we liked in approximately 40 minutes, or use some of the surrounding bars and restaurants. We were disappointed, but decided this was the more pleasant option, After a reasonable night's sleep in the hotel, breakfast was a very disappointing affair. Derek, the waiter was lovely and very attentive, but little things like no cutlery on the table, chips in the at least three of the crockery items, the waitress removing my marmalade from the table before I'd had chance to use it - all made for a pretty unimpressive breakfast experience. As we checked out , the gentleman on Reception was very understanding of the issues we mentioned and very kindly reduced our room rate, which at least made us feel like we hadn't completely wasted our money, although on the whole I'd have much rather paid full rate, had a lovely relaxing drink in the bar the previous evening and a lovely breakfast. Pretty sure we'll stay elsewhere in future, sadly!

We stayed at the hotel for one night, we did request rooms to be closed together, but ended with one of our rooms being on a different floor. One of our party uses a mobility scooter, we were vert satisfied with the accessible room. The other rooms were comfortable but the style of the room could do with updating furniture looking tired. Also they need to check spelling when they placed sign on toilet to show its been cleaned The word sanified appeared. Whoops...........

Dear cazz01973 Thank you for taking the time to review your stay and we really appreciated your feedback. I am sorry that we were not able to allocate your rooms together we do always try to meet guests requests where ever we can. I am pleased that the accessible room met your needs. We appreciate your feedback on the other room and as I am sure you can appreciate Covid has impacted the hospitality industry substantially and we hope that as business improves are able to look at a investment programme. The spelling has been verified on the toilet strip and is a correct word which we did check when we first introduced these. We do hope that we can look forward to welcoming you back for any future trips you may be planning. Kidn regards Matthew Whittaker Resident Manager

I organised a weekend conference last weekend at the hotel. This involved a mixed group of single and twin rooms, all arriving on the Friday at different times. Breakfast on Saturday, a bar reception followed by a formal dinner on Saturday evening with speaker, and then Breakfast on the Sunday. From my initial enquiry, to discussing rooms, rates, the formal dinner, payment, menus, etc.etc.etc. they could not have been more helpful or professional. Every member of staff was attentive and professional. The weekend went without a hitch and EVERYONE enjoyed their experience. The rooms were spotless and had everything and more you could want. I cannot praise the hotel and staff highly enough, its even nice to see proper silver service dining at a formal dinner. Everyone was attentive but not overbearing. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a boutique hotel in the Centre of Sheffield either for a meal, couple of nights or formal weekend. I visit many hotels and give many reviews on here. This is the best UK hotel I have been to

This was not a cheap stay costing £179 for one night with parking and breakfast. We were informed the day before arriving when it was too late to cancel that the air conditioning was not working despite having booked it a month earlier and reviews showing this has been an issue since July. On a positive, the location is central and the bed was comfy. The view from the room was a wall and a service lift. The shower gel dispenser in the shower was empty and when we mentioned this at reception they offered us sample bottles of gel and seemed confused when we said we would rather the dispenser was filled. The bar staff in the otherwise deserted bar seemed uninterested in serving. We found breakfast was being served in a windowless bunker on the lower ground floor that resembled a staff canteen. We were seated with a menu and fruit juice and then nothing for 15 minutes. When we asked for coffee we were asked how many cups we would like. I had a cooked breakfast including a dried up fried egg, a raw tomato and an oily hash brown. My wife had smashed avocado which was ok but would have had a continental breakfast with fruit but for some reason this was not on the menu we were given though later arrivals did manage to order it.

Dear John D, Thank you for taking the time to review your personal experience of your stay here at the Leopold Hotel. We were of course disappointed that you were not entirely satisfied with aspects of your stay. We are currently undergoing works on our air conditioning system which I am sure you can appreciate is not an easy fix. The rooms within the hotel will all over differing views due to its location and we are somewhat restricted in what we can do here. I have also addressed the issue of the shower gel with the Head Housekeeper and she would like to be associated with these apologies for the oversight. I was of course disappointed to hear your breakfast was not satisfactory as we have had some great feedback since re-commencing our breakfast service, we offer both full and continental and I am sure had you asked the team they would have certainly offered the continental menu. The breakfast room we feel is fit for purpose and due to the age and layout of the building we have utilized the spaces as best we can. Once again apologies for the shortfalls and we do hope that we can welcome you back to the Leopold Hotel. Kind regards Matthew - Resident Manager

As part of a work celebration we booked for Afternoon tea for about 38 people. The room we were given was tiny and cramped with no natural light. I was on a back table so was largely ignored by the staff as they attended the other three tables despite us actually looking for someone.

The sandwiches offered very little choice (tuna, egg and ham) but were overpowered by the amount of butter compared to the miniscule amount of filling on them. There wasn't enough for the amount of people per table. We were given 1 cup of tea despite asking for a refill (which never arrived) and 1 glass of prosecco despite others being given 2/3.

The cakes we were offered included cherry scones but no alternative was offered if you didn't like them. The other cakes on offer were macaroons, a lemon slice (Morrisons own) and a chocolate cake all appeared shop bought.

It was not worth the £20 per head we paid and we all agreed we would not go back again. The hotel was hosting a wedding at the same time so it felt like we were an inconvenience.

Myself and my partner have visited the Leopold twice, the first time for one night and this time for two. The service is impeccable and the staff could not have been more accommodating. On our first night, the shower and bath were not getting up to temperature & as it was a Sunday and difficult to call someone to look at it, they let us move to a bigger room with a bigger bed. The location of the hotel could not be more perfect, with an abundance of bars and restaurants right next door. We felt looked after and prioritised for the entire stay.

Not my first time to Sheffield but my first at the Leopold. It won’t be my last!
As a wheelchair user travel and overnight stays are always a nightmare so it was firstly nice to see that the accessible details were easy to find on the website and thorough. I was able to book an accessible room online (not always the case) & on arrival a member of staff quickly came over to the wheelchair lift to assist if required. At check in I was asked what assistance I would need in the event of a fire alarm, I have never been asked this before. I was given instructions of where the refuge area was and the fire officer was made aware of my needs and my room number.
The hotel was lovely and clean and all the staff I encountered were happy and engaging. My room was large and easy to move around in. The accessible bathroom was useable, which is very often not the case and was able to shower easily.
Breakfast was excellent, too much choice, but I didn’t complain! Again the staff were very nice to everyone who came in to eat. The hotel is situated in a square surrounded by restaurants and bars, so no need to struggle for a taxi back, although we were so close to the bars our room was quiet and a good nights sleep was had, well a few hours!!
The only minus point would be if I was travelling alone as the car park is a short distance away, I would have struggled.
Apart from that our stay was superb and would definitely return and recommend to others.

The hotel was lovely and the location perfect. The room appeared to be very clean. The staff, while friendly, may have benefitted from some training though. We booked a suite and requested the drinks package be added. when we arrived the room did not have working air-conditioning and there was no drinks package. they quickly changed the room but we are still waiting for the extras we wanted. We went for breakfast, we were shown to our table. The waitress brought out toast and asked if we wanted butter, we said yes please and she looked around and reached over the the next table which still had food on it from the previous customers, picked up 3 packets of butter and dropped them on our table. Both our breakfasts included juice which we did not receive, and it included yogurt, however we were not given a choice of flavour, neither of us liked the toffee flavoured tub we were given. The milk for the coffee was in jugs left on the table and was warm. The meal itself was quite nice, and a few of the staff went out of their way to be helpful, but the lack of hygiene especially during the pandemic was disappointing.

Dear DN-andGK Thank you for taking the time to review your stay and we appreciate all feedback. I was of course disappointed to read of the service levels you received at breakfast and I have spoken with the team and they would like to be associated with these apologies. We do have some new team members and it is evident that further training is required in some areas and I am sorry that this affected your experience with us. Its great that you enjoyed the hotel and its location and you found it to be clean which is something the team do work hard to achieve. We do hope that this will not deter you from staying with us again here at the Leopold Hotel. Kind regards Matthew - Resident Manager

I visited this hotel with couple of friends on 25th Sep for couple of nights. I shared a family room with two other friends but everything in our room was set up for two people although this was a big room with 3 beds. There was no shampoo or soap as you see in other 4 star hotels and there was only one refillable one that you had to wash your hands and also your head and body. There was not enough towels for 3 people and when we asked for more they just put them outside our room 185 on the floor 😬who wants to use a towel on their skin when it touched a dirty floor? There was not enough cups or any other necessary stuff for three people .. very disappointing!
I can say the price of this hotel is very good for its location. This hotel is right in the heart of Sheffield and very close to shops and restaurants.
Also Dan at the reception was super helpful but we gathered that the rest of the team weren’t as helpful as him and the house keeping people obviously didn’t care about the hygiene at all. Plz see the pic attached.

Dear NassimaK8 Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of the Leopold Hotel and we do appreciate all feedback. Its disappointing to hear that you do not think we are a 4 star hotel I would like to reassure you that we meet strict criteria to be awarded our 4 star status and we have always been awarded this since our opening. Our bathroom toiletries are in dispensers in the bathrooms offering a hair and body in the shower/bath and a separate hand soap located near to the sink. I am sorry that the towels were left outside your room and not in a protective cover as is our normal standard, I will ensure that this is addressed with the housekeeping team and I understand that while the items were missing in your room for the 3rd person they will brought immediately to your room for you, I will ensure that communications are improved to ensure that the room is ready in advance for when 3 people are occupying this room. I am pleased to hear your great feedback about Dan and I will ensure that this is shared with him. We do hope that this will not deter you from staying with us again at the Leopold Hotel, Sheffield. Many thanks to all at Leopold Hotel for a very pleasant 3 night stay. We are a group of keen cyclists and used the hotel as a base for riding in the nearby Peak District. Very pleasant, cheerful & helpful staff. Lovely room, comfortable bed, great shower, quiet, coffee machine. Tasty breakfast, just right to fuel a mornings cycling. The hotel provided secure storage for our bikes and discounted secure parking enabled us forget our cars for 3 days. Hotel is a beautiful old building located in an enclosed square. Square is a lovely place to catch evening sun, sipping cold beer with a variety of restaurants .. ideal for tired legs after a long day out. Formerly a technical school, the walls are hung with photos of past pupils learning metalwork, carpentry, brickwork in workshops. We felt safe from Covid here, staff & guests wear masks, social distancing is in place and plenty sanitizing gel. Looking forward to a return trip soon.
