I stayed here for a weekend getaway for my birthday. Good points are the staff were helpful and friendly, the breakfast was nice, the Wifi connection was strong, and the shower had plenty of water. However, I didn't feel other aspects of the hotel were really of the standard expected for the price. On arrival there was a wedding going on, and I was told I was being put far away from the wedding to avoid noise. This was certainly the case, as I was about as far from the reception as was possible. I was originally put in a very small room but I was moved on request; this room was larger but not nicer. The paintwork desperately needed painting, the lights flickered in the bathroom, the bath panel was falling apart, the mattress wasn't very comfortable, and the room generally felt tired and in need of updating. The heating went off at about 10pm, so it was cold after that. The room looked out onto the laundry storage, and the laundry van came to collect at 6.45am, which was very noisy. Also, there was a room service tray (not mine) outside my door for almost 24 hours. I really felt like I'd been stuck out in a forgotten bit of the hotel.

The grounds of the hotel are pleasant but the dog poo bins were overflowing, which rather spoilt the ambience. Also the layout of the hotel is strange in that only the restaurant overlooks the grounds, so you can only enjoy the view at breakfast or if you pay for dinner. At any other time, refreshments are only available in a rather poky lounge which has no view at all, just an intrusive TV. The restaurant isn't even available if there's an event on. I would have liked to go into the grounds on the evening I arrived, but I couldn't work out how to get there without going through the wedding.

It rather feels like this is a hotel for weddings and events, and any other visitor is second class. The dining area, the view, the nice rooms - all are reserved for the events (as I heard a member of staff tell someone viewing the hotel for a potential wedding).

All in all, I had a pleasant stay but it was not worth what I paid. I have had far more comfortable nights and felt more valued in cheaper hotels.

We stayed here just before the Coronavirus lock down so hotel occupancy was very low. It's a lovely hotel on the edge of Sheffield and very convenient for the Peak District. Hotel grounds are really nice with a small lake. Like many hotels, rooms could do with a refresh but ours was fine, clean with a large comfy bed. We'd upgraded from a basic room so ours overlooked the lake. This was fine with low occupancy but I suspect you'd have to keep the blinds drawn for privacy under normal circumstances as the path around the lake goes past the patio window. Breakfast was very good, and good value for hotel breakfasts. The restaurant had been closed for meals but food was available in the bar although this was a bit expensive. There were plenty of excellent pubs serving good food within the area though. The spa had also been closed but we were able to use the facilities at their nearby sister hotel. All the staff were lovely apart from one receptionist who had her head constantly buried in the hotel computer; not once did we get a 'good morning' or 'have you had a good day' from her. Overall I would recommend this hotel.

Paid £240 for a double suite with balcony and breakfast. Breakfast on first day was very poor along with a bad attitude from the chef.
Minimal hot food available.
Patio door had 2 locks that didnt work, the only thing that sort of worked was the chain. Outside lights, neither worked, cigarette ends on the patio from previous guests. Bed was ok, but slept in better. Paid for the mini bar, but was empty on arrival, requested on 3 occasions for it to be filled as paid for, it remained empty until we left. Other peoples bedding in piles in the corridor outside our room was left for several hours.
The spa.... no towels as they had run out, pool area was lit by a torch as lights had gone.
Outside the £240 room from the balcony was a lovely view, apart from the broken plastic rattan look chairs that had been thrown out there. All in all, could be a far nicer place with better management and staff that did their jobs properly.

We visited here as Sheffield residents as a special occasion; unfortunately it was special for quite the wrong reasons.....

On check in they hadn't noted a dog or other person staying; this seemed to come as a surprise, despite being advised over the phone on booking (and we were staying in one of the 'dog rooms').

The lift was out of order. As two able bodied people in our thirties with a Westie, this was fine. This was not fine for the two older ladies (one of which visibly struggled with stairs) who were also en route to their room with their disabled Daschund (who was in a pram).

When we finally arrived at our room there was a 'ready for inspection' sign on the door. On entering the room, it became apparent why; the inspection had clearly not occurred....

The carpet was stained and looked like it was older than God's dog.

Under one of the cabinets (shifted to find some sockets), there was evidence that someone else had clearly heard about the room service given the empty bottle of Oasis and sweet wrappers.

The room was generally shabby - one of the chairs in the room had completely worn away on the arm.

The bathroom sealant was tastefully decorated with black mould.

The photos were absolutely not representative of the room. Unless it was taken with some sort of hotel room time warp filter I'm unaware of.

One of the dressing gowns was disgusting - clearly someone else had waited 2 hours on some food and been served some soggy parsnip crisps and had taken fecal revenge on the robe, which was a delightful combination of white, brown and orange.

I particularly enjoyed the decorative collection of fag ends on the grass outside the room.

There was no menu in the room and no obvious number for reception so we had to hazard a guess at that one and for the menu go back up to reception and take photos of the menu from there.

My favourite part of the trip though was the room service. We ordered food and after an hour and a half called up and was told the order had been forgotten and the kitchen was closed. We were offered a breakfast as an apology and advised to 'order a sandwich or call a takeaway'. Unfortunately we were starving so ordered a sandwich (and were then awarded a bottle of wine on the house which, to be fair, was appreciated). Half an hour later our room service endurance test produced a ham and cheese and tuna sandwich, both presented with some soggy vegetable crisps. We were also awarded two drinks vouchers for the day. It was 11.15pm at this point.

So, overall, not an experience we're keen to repeat

We stayed with our two Springer Spaniels for three days and couldn’t find fault. The staff were wonderful and the dogs spoilt rotten. We could eat with our pets in the bar area and the staff even provided extra sausages for them! The rooms were very comfortable and we could leave the dogs in the room if we wished to use the Restuarant. When we turned up our Spanners received a gift pack of biscuits and towels.
If you want a dog friendly Hotel with good food then look no further!
We would certainly recommend them

We were given a 2 night stay at the Kenwood hall hotel from our 3 children as a gift for our silver wedding anniversary.
Our hotel room was adequate but in need of carpets cleaning, curtains rehanging, patio door window, the seal has gone and we were unable to open/close patio door as it was seized.

My sons were on the understanding that the spa and pool area were open? This was not the case as in the small print on arrival ( closed until July ) which year may I ask!

1st night meal was ok & well presented by a staff members.

Our silver anniversary evening was spoilt by no suitable quiet table near a window or by a wall. There were laid out tables we could have been moved onto but were informed by a supervisor there was no other table available? Nobody sat at these other tables the whole time we were there? We would have gladly waited half an hour in the bar area waiting on a table to be made available but no was the answer. We were offered a glass of Prosecco on the house which we never received. We ordered our food and asked for a bottle of Prosecco ( We were going to have a couple bottles of Tattinger Champagne this evening and glad we chose not too! )

The bottle of Prosecco was brought to our table in an ice bucket that contained no ice, wet champagne flutes from whatever washer you use. The icing on the cake we had to open our own bottle & pour it ourselves.
Other tables had wine opened and poured for them. The service we received from staff was appalling in waiting standards. There was too much emphasis on a large coach party in a screened off section and your staff couldn’t do enough for them!
Overall we were very disappointed with the service we received from yourselves that evening!

Our sons are not very happy with our findings, their mum upset & that they paid a lot of money out that was meant to be a very special occasion for myself and my wife..

We spent two nights here in a family room.

We were lucky enough to be given a room overlooking the grounds and nice lake so it was a pleasure to sit by the large open doors. That being said I would advise there was a large group at the time ( not particularly social distancing) and if this had been a busy evening function it would have made our stay rather different as the function room doors open out onto a patio area below the room.
As luck would have it there were no evening functions during our stay.

I have read reviews about poor tired rooms but I'd say the only tiny issue with ours is that the bathroom lock didn't work and we had to request a remote control for the TV to work but neither of these things are the end of the world.

I would also mention it may be worth requesting to stay in the main building as there is a ad on to the left hand side which doesn't particularly have a view of anythobg and looks like a block of small dark rooms so I feel we were very lucky with our allocation.

This is also a dog friendly hotel, this is made apparent by the website and the fact there is a dog bed and bowls at the entrance. Do not be surprised however if people still look at you cock eyed for having a dog and mutter to themselves that it's odd.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating, you can request things via an app and you can actually get a drink and relax in the grounds whereas some hotels still have their bars closed.

It is only a 20 min walk to a large park area with a stream, fields and play areas plus a good pizza place and other shops, and the grounds to the rear of the hotel are some of the best we have stayed in.

I would say however that I would love to see the function room/dining area overhauled. When you step in it looks like (and I'm sorry to say) a cheap village hall wedding reception with silvery curtains hung around, ugly carpet and a few tables scattered about (this may be for covid but this was not the same during the day for the large group). Yet there's a lovely baby grand piano in the corner! It'd completely out of touch with the rest of the hotel, how good would it look with a wood or tiled floor, some classy booth seating, and ths piano made a show case of.

If we were to return to Sheffield again I would definitly consider staying again but would definitly depend on price and being able to pick the room.

I stayed here with my children on a Monday night due to having work done at our home. Aiden from the booking team at the hotel matched a price comparison website in price and gave us complimentary breakfast. We were treated very well particularly by Luke on check in throughout his shift. He loaned me a phone charger m, gave the children complimentary tooth brushes and made them hot chocolate with marsh mellows at no charge before they went to bed. There were Covid safe measures everywhere and lots of hand sanitizer stations. Breakfast was A help yourself continental buffet. A decent choice of pastries, yogurts, fruit and cheese all individually wrapped for extra safety. An excellent selection of individually boxes cereal. The room was spacious, very very clean and very comfortable. We had a takeaway delivered to the hotel which worked well for us as a family as the restaurant was closed. We had a nice view of the lake and we had a stroll round the grounds which were absolutely beautiful. We will be booking again as we had such a great evening and felt so welcome. I cannot find fault with anything at all and at £72 for a family room it was an absolute bargain. Thanks to Aiden and Luke the break was such a treat and you are both a credit to the team at Kenwood.

I provide my reviews based on what we have paid, I don’t expect the same service at a premier inn as I would from the Savoy, so I hope you understand that I rate / review based on the cost of that hotel not against other hotels

We stayed here last (2021) May just as we came out of lockdown and whilst not perfect, we accepted that it was all new and staff were new and still needed some coaching

This time however no excuse it was just poor for the quality of hotel this claims to be

The card for the door did not work after multiple attempts and despite going to reception twice they refused to accept that we didn’t know how to use a key card

Finally they moved us to another room (Noting later in the day another couple were trying to get into our original room and guess what, the door didn’t work). The key stopped working twice over a 2 day stay, as did the other couple who we visited the hotel with. Over the weekend we know there were multiple people having issues with key cards, we receive no apology from the staff.

We were not able to eat, on the second day in the restaurant as they had a function, not an issue, it took nearly 2.5 hours for them to confirm where we were to eat that evening, it was in the Laura Ashley room which was very nice, however the organisation was very poor and frustrating.

The second day were were unable to get lunch from the bar menu, we were told because they had the function we were only able to order from the 24 hour menu, I’m sorry but that’s unacceptable, the hotel held a function and their other guests should not have their services reduced as they can’t cope, that is not how you run a hotel

Bar service was slow and missing basics, first day no Guinness, also no spiced rum, not a major issue but basic requirements for a bar. Eventually Guinness was on tap

Staff need more training, twice when ordering a shandy they poured 5/6 lager with a splash of lemonade, that’s a lager top not a shandy. It was ok for me I was staying at the hotel, however imagine if I needed to drive, having expected to have drank a shandy, I could easily have been over the limit

Shandy is 1/2 lemonade in the glass first, then lager, not lager then a splash of lemonade, train your staff

The room whilst clean was worn and tired and the chair was ripped

The shower whilst ok, for someone nearly 6 ft, the shower head barely reaches my shoulders, poor design

Sorry but for what we paid and what this hotel promotes itself as, it misses the mark by a mile

I was a little disappointed with this hotel. On a positive note, the staff were all very nice, the family room was a good size and layout (for 2 adults and 2 kids), and the breakfast was good (it’s worth paying in advance as it’s more expensive if you just show up).

The room was located a very long way from reception – the advantage is it’s theoretically quiet when there are functions taking place (although we were all woken at 1am by some very noisy neighbours). If you have heavy bags then it’s not ideal as we had to go up in a lift, walk a long way, go down some steps and then go up some more steps etc. We were offered the use of a luggage trolley but it’s pointless with all the steps. The signage was pretty poor and it took us a while to find the room. Some of the corridors looked like they needed a good clean, and they stayed that way over the weekend.

Despite the room being a good size it felt tired and in need of modernising and redecorating. The carpets also felt like they could do with a good clean. The bathroom was big but had no heating in it whatsoever, and with a large single glazed window, it was freezing cold. Towels will not dry in there during winter and there’s a lack of rails to hang them elsewhere. The shower was difficult to use for anyone over about 5’10” as the hose wasn’t long enough and is too close to the wall so it cannot be angled. The lighting in the room wasn’t great and there were a couple of bulbs that didn’t work (after the efforts of getting to the room we couldn’t muster the energy to go back to the reception and ask to be moved).

My wife and kids used the pool. Whilst the kids enjoyed it, the décor was again lacking, with peeling paint and mould in a number of places. It just didn’t feel very pleasant and I’m surprised that non-residents would pay to use it.

If you’re looking for places to eat then there’s a good variety on London Road which is about a 15 minute walk away. If you’re visiting for a football match then it’s another 5-10 minutes further to Bramall Lane – so definitely walkable.

Overall it’s not a bad place, it just left us feeling a little underwhelmed. Given the location and the grounds, they could make this a real gem of a place to stay with some investment.
