I treated the other half to a stay at the hotel, we live in London so thought it would make a nice change of scenery!
The hotel is well presented, friendly and accommodating.
Situated in beautiful surroundings and local to many pubs/restaurants and historical places to visit.
The members of staff were seen cleaning regularly and had many hand sanitizing stations around the hotel.
We decided not to eat in the hotel restaurant as it seemed quite expensive, two alcoholic drinks at the bar totalled £14.
Unfortunately the spa had reduced the facilities due to the pandemic, so we were only able to use the outdoor hot tub while the sauna and steam room were closed- surprisingly no discount was added despite this..bit of a led down.
Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to business travellers and couples.
On arrival location was great with views across farmland to distant hills. Easy parking (but no charging point for electric cars). Room was on second floor with lift access. Room was large, clean and comfortable with large comfortable bed. Bathroom had both shower and luxurious bath.
Now onto the food. We dined in the conservatory. Tables were well spaced and service was both efficient and pleasant.
The seven course tasting menu was accompanied by four different wines which matched the food well. Portions were large by tasting menu standards and food was well presented and flavourful.
Afternoon tea was a meal in itself with savouries, sandwiches, scones and cakes.
A la carte was slightly disappointing in that the majority of the dishes were the same as on the tasting menu but included an amuse bouche as well as a pre desert. Again the food was both delicious and well presented.
Breakfasts had the choice of traditional English, Smoked fish, Eggs Benedict or Continental and were first class.
All in all a very enjoyable break and good value at less than £500 for two. If having the afternoon tea I would suggest skipping lunch, taking tea as early as possible and dinner as late as possible to allow time for digestion.

The room was comfortable with a roomy bathroom with a separate bath and shower.
The food was great. We ate from the a la carte menu on the first evening and had the tasting menu on the second evening. We also had the afternoon tea. I am vegetarian but my husband isn’t and they catered for us both with ease. We also had the wine flight with our meal and the young lady explained all of the wines to us really well and we enjoyed them all. Breakfast was also very good and again we were very well looked after.
I can honestly say that every single member of staff that we met was helpful and friendly. From the moment we arrived to a warm welcome from the lovely receptionist until the moment we left we were very well looked after.
They had all COVID restrictions in place and we felt very safe.
Spa: Small but lovely. Outdoor hot tub, which was lovely but not for anyone small with mobility issues, so sadly Mum couldnt utilise that feature. Friendly and welcoming staff. Beth, who did my Couture Touch treatment, lived up to previous reviews. Looking forward to another visit in February.
Forelles restaurant: Just wow! Exceptional food, and wonderful staff, especially Cynthia and the Italian waiter. Even though we were on the 3 course a la carte, we had all sorts of amazing extra's. The pre-dessert 'Waldorf Salad' was the star of the show for us (not a salad at all), transitioning you from savoury to sweet and an excellent palate cleanser. Everything was explained and the team are clearly passionate about what they do. Just super gutted that I did not take advantage of the Black Friday 3 course dinner deal, when I booked another stay in February :-(
Room: Room 22 spacious and clean, with a huge (possibly super king) bed? Nice touches like fresh milk in the fridge, complimentary freshly baked biscuits and an Elemis little gift set. My only minor gripe is that my preference is feather pillows. Aside from that, everything was great.
All in all, a very memorable stay, truly 5 star service! Great staff on reception, in the spa and the restaurant. But the star of the show is most definitely the food in Forelles, exquisite!
Not very welcoming, no porter to take the bags to the room.
The room was described as luxury. It was open plan with the bath in the room, robes and slippers were provided, but other than that it was just average, I was expecting a notch up considering the price.
Dinner was 3 courses from a small menu, but not much choice for vegetarians. Restaurant staff were polite but not friendly in my opinion and could have explained the dishes on the menu.
The hotel was about 1 mile drive from the A49 but we could still hear the traffic from our room and did not sleep well as a consequence.
On a positive note there was a maid turndown service in the evening, where toiletries were replenished.
We skipped breakfast in the morning and I wouldn't rush back to stay again.
The previous weekend we stayed at Foyles in Glasbury, which is a mid priced boutique hotel but it was far more luxurious in every sense than Fishmore Hall.
The food is wonderful and the service from the two young waiters who really tried hard to make it a delightful experience, is to be commended
The bad
Don’t repeat don’t accept room 2 . It’s over the kitchens and the noise all night was unbearable. The vibrations shook the water glass on the bedside table. The heat was also unbeatable because we couldn’t open the window because of the noise.
The ugly
We went to our room at 3.30 and walked through a landing filled with piles of dirty laundry and carts with cleaning materials. We had been bought this treat from my sister, not a voucher as the manager kept referring it, and we wanted to rest before dinner. Rest! No chance. The laundry workers and cleaners were talking and filling and emptying until we gave in.
We went back downstairs for dinner. Still piles of laundry . We went to bed after dinner, yes you guessed, still laundry . Really in Covid? Dirty laundry hanging about.
Down for breakfast very early as we had little sleep and NO laundry. After breakfast on the way up, yes the laundry piles were there again.
And the management response, no problems in room 2, no one has ever complained and what anyway were they to do with the laundry? Certainly not piles of it where we had to walk.
And as we had enjoyed our meal she gave us 20% off the room, not the dinner as that had been ok. Not the experience as a whole and the lack of sleep. So £18 off .
I would have thought an offer of a night in a room that one could actually sleep in would have been the least .
Still what’s customer service these days.
So as another review states. Eat there but don’t sleep
However, we did not have the best experience. We were shown to our table in the conservatory which was lovely and with her Perspex screens in place felt very safe. We were asked what drinks we would like and as we both wanted Breakfast tea one pot was provided. The actual afternoon tea was interesting and tasty. However, we were not asked again if we wanted refills of the hot drink. Other guests were asked if they wanted more but not us. I can only assume this was because we had prepaid and therefore no income would be received from our visit.
The restaurant manager checked on other tables but didn’t approach us at all. I found this quite rude and based on this experience would not recommend or would I purchase a voucher as a gift if this is the service you received.
