Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Myself and the wife stayed here from Thursday 13th of august till monday the 17th of august having also stopped there about 5 weeks ago for a long weekend. Where do I start as there is so much to say. The site itself is immaculately run by chris and his team which includes the legendary Dave and Wendy who work so hard especially in the food cart. The food cart offers such things as fried chicken, burgers and my favourite the pizzas which are amazing with the thinnest crispy base I've ever known. Another couple have joined the team called rich and debbie and they seem to fit right into the family atmosphere of the site. The site is beautifully kept with manicured lawns and pitches which are all a great size and every pitch we've had is fully serviced. There is an adults only section to the site with a large pond/fountain in the middle. The kids play area is well kitted out and is right next to the bar. The bar itself is excellent and the whole front of it opens up on those glorious sunny days. The toilet blocks are kept immaculate especially in these times of covid and other precautions are taken throughout the site with hand sanitizer everywhere you look and all tables and chairs in and outside the bar are disinfected whenever somebody leaves a table. We normally have pitch 16 which is huge but this time we had a smaller non awning pitch (number 22) but was still fully serviced and very handy for the bar and the toilets. All said and done cartref is a fantastic site and everyone is so friendly. We will without doubt be returning again and again. Thanks for another great stay guys. Steve and elaine.

had to write this on my way home to say what a fantastic site this is! We have just stayed for 3 nights and lovely every minute.

The staff are lovely and friendly and can’t help you enough, whether it’s giving advice on where to go to visit or just helping with your stay. They were so on the ball with the cleaning regime due to Covid. Wiping down every table and chair as soon as someone left it in the bar and not letting people sit till it had been done. All the necessary procedures in place, hand sanitisers all over and signage advising you what to do.

On the food front too it was FAB! Food van near the bar / reception which serves food all day & night offering take away or eat in the bar. Amazing pizzas and you can order to have delivered to your pitch too, the staff in there striving to make everything the best it could be and it was!

Will definitely be making a return visit!!

Our first ever motorhome outing had been here about 3 years ago and we loved it then. But, because of the enormous amount of sites we try to visit different places. This year we wanted to take my parents (in their 80s but still using their motorhome) somewhere we knew and would be safe, given the current situation. We were not disappointed. We stayed in the adults only section, which are fully serviced pitches so my parents didn't need to keep cleaning the taps etc. It was soooo peaceful and the pitches very spacious. We visited the bar Bartref on the way back from a walk and decided to stop for a bite to eat. It was lovely for us all to feel a little bit of normality again. The facilities were open, (and spotlessly clean) with a very well organised one way system and plenty of hand sanitiser dotted around the site. We were delighted to find an enclosed dog walking area (and so were the dogs!)
We had a thoroughly enjoyable visit and will definitely go back again - in less than 3 years this time. Thank you to our hosts!

This is an amazing site with level and spacious pitches and divided by hedges in most places. The toilets are not modern but probably the cleanest and best maintained I have ever seen on a campsite!
The staff/ owners are campers themselves and clearly know what makes a comfortable stay for fellow campers.
The site is gated and secure with a bar and shop that I didn’t get to see due to staying only one night for a wedding, but if the rest of the site is anything to go by they will be amazing!
If you like winter camping this is a must see site!!
The owners went over and above to provide a service unlike any other site I’ve been on to date, I can’t recommend this site enough and we will be back in the new year!!

My partner and I recently stayed for a long weekend at this pleasant and well presented camp site a few miles from Shrewsbury. Although COVID measures were clearly in place they did not distract from the efficient way the site is run. The cleanliness of the facilities is a credit to the owners and the pitches, communal areas and dog exercise area were all neat and litter free. I would highly recommend this as a base for visitors to the area and as an added bonus try the breakfast baps and evening pizzas and burgers freshly made on site.

We absolutely loved this campsite. Spotlessly clean & tidy. We stayed 3 nights. All pitches were fully serviced & everyone from staff to fellow campers were really friendly.
The little bar was brilliant. We also had homemade burgers and chip on the Saturday night from the takeaway van opposite the bar.
Waynes taxi firm provided a brilliant service to travel into Shrewsbury which cost £13 each way. We also visited Attingham Park with Mansion House and the most amazing grounds.
A really lovely trip in a beautiful.

Recently spent 3 nights at Cartref in our motorhome wow what a fab site !!!
All pitches are fully serviced, and spacious, all have small hedges seperating each pitch, making it that bit more private. We stayed on pitch 33 in the adult only area, there is a lovely pond area and the grounds are beautiful.
There is also a lovely on site bar which is really nice and quirky with a great outside seating area.
They have a small shop onsite too which is a bonus, there is also takeaway food on Fri and Sat evening(Pizzas, burgers, Sunday breakfast) available.
All staff are really friendly, we met 2 of the wardens whilst we were there both were great. Facilities are very clean
We would definately recommend Cartref

We used Cartref as our first outing for our VW camper, given it was mid January we wanted to stay fairly close to home in case of any problems.

The site was great, really nicely laid out with a limited number of pitches, we had one in the adult area that came with electric hook up, water hook up, and grey waste drain at the pitch.

We were greeted at the gate and guided round to our pitch, once we set up when we went to the club house for a drink - nice selection of beers and coffees, and a lovely central fireplace which we really enjoyed given the time of year.

The toilet block is very well maintained and very clean, great amenities on site for dog owners as well.

Really enjoyed our stay and we can't speak highly enough of the staff we spoke to. Will definitely be back.

First time hear at Cartref we weren't disappointed 3 night stop over the bank holiday weekend. On arrival we were greeted by a very pleasant team member and then shown to our hardstanding pitch by the owner Chris, after setting up we had a walk around the site and could clearly see the whole site was kept in tip top condition the amenity block was spotless throughout the rest of our stay. The adults area only was a plus for us and was the quietest/peaceful site we have ever been on just great. The bar and food unit was a welcome bonus and the hosts were very welcoming . Highly recommend and look forward to returning again soon. Thank you Chris and the team . " Keep up the great work" Phil & Sarah Barnett.

This site has just become adult only and it is a wonderfully peaceful place to stay. The staff are all very friendly and work hard to maintain the beautiful grounds and standards of cleanliness in the shower block and the little on site bar. We met and chatted to other people there who were all in agreement with us that they would stay at Cartref again. There was only one person who said that they wished the site shop would open in the morning for topping up on necessities, but it didn't bother us at all. Each pitch is divided by a hedge, giving privacy and we also had our own grey waste and water tap. The Oxon park and ride is a short drive away, which made travelling into nearby Shrewsbury hassle free and only costs £2.10 return each. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back, thank you Cartref!

Hi, Is there a Bus route into Shrewsbury close by?
Answer from Stenamanda

It would be a bit of a walk to a bus stop, the site is down country lanes, so you would need a car.
Answer from Stenamanda

The site is down country lanes so would be a bit of a trek to a bus stop. The site has a little bar that had just opened up the night before we left the site, but if you wanted a meal it's a mile or so to a pub, but the couple on site are very helpful and will tell you where the pubs are.
