Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Arrived on Saturday all dress up for a vip special occasion that evening,on arrival receptionist was clearly vey busy so a wait at reception,my husband had booked in advance and paid online when we eventually got seen reception spoke to colleagues and I over heard the room we should be in wasn't ready and had to find another room, reception asked what time we would like breakfast in the morning we started 10am no problem i will make a note of that for kitchen staff, went up to room,at first glance seemed OK went to sit on bed and it slid and moved as it wasn't attached to headboard, overall the room was very dirty, splats of drinks on wall, broken plug sockets etc, we went to leave room as we had reservations and was unable to lock our door, spoke to reception on leaving and said they would sort it,on our return door was locked but no phone call to say your room was secure, very tiny bed not secure as previously said so every time we went to roll over bed moved, went down for breakfast at 10am as previously said for a very miserable old staff member to show us to a table, no guidance of help yourself to fresh juice ect,so we both got up to look what was on offer of contenal option to find small amount of box cearal hardly any fruit yought and one lonely fresh pastry, she eventually offer us hot drink and I asked if the would be more pastry available to get a very blunt NO,she walked off to people opposite us to say well if they can't be bothered to come down until 10 then what do they expect they won't be getting anything else,so unprofessional so rude so vile ended up with a shocking cooked breakfast missing sausage but most importantly taste flavour just was a plate of beige, my husband wanted scrabble egg with his cooked breakfast truly it was what looked like a plate of cat sick and the face he pulled when he took a mouthful would appear he had just taste cat sick.what should have been a very special treat for us as a couple of a rare night away was over shadowed buy the door not locking, coper pipes, drink splatter most importantly miserable old women ancat sick breakfast

I felt apprehensive about our stay after reading some of the most recent reviews on TripAdvisor. However I'm glad to say we had nothing to worry about. We were greeted very warmly by the receptionist and we felt we welcomed. She double checked that our room was ready. I had the sherry and it was very warming. Our room was very clean and comfortable. No chipped paint or furniture to be seen. Breakfast was plentiful and overall a wonderful experience was had at The Prince Rupert Hotel. We would highly recommend a stay here based on our experience. We stayed in the modern side of the hotel. We had a wonder around the hotel and found ourselves in the original part of the building which was as you would except from a timber framed building. It was a delight to see and appreciate.

We had a really lovely stay at the hotel, the staff were brilliant and definitely go all out to help, they are a credit to the hotel. The rooms were very old and historic, which we loved. We had a couple of spooky moments. The breakfast was lovely but pretty basic and small portions. Having said that, it is definitely worth a visit. My husband even got a card and chocolates for his birthday. We did book for a group dinner for a 50th birthday but told it had been cancelled and a message had left on my phone, I didn't get one so only found out the same night. We were then stuck trying to find a place for food for us all on Saturday night, we wandered around for hour as everywhere was booked. Ended up book at a pizza place which had another hour wait so did put a damper on it. Shrewsbury is a beautiful town, so apart from the dinner it was really lovely.

I was in awe as I approached the prince Rupert from the railway station a few minutes away. What a magnificent sight before me an olde worlde timbered building just as I imagined it would be. I walked into the lobby through the glass revolving doors and was very warmly greeted by the lady receptionist and as I checked in was offered a free glass of sherry. A compact lift took me to the 2nd floor where my room was located. Room locks were old fashioned key locks and with a wiggly turn of the doorknob I was in my room. Plain painted walls, bright modern bathroom plenty of towels, nice double bed tv on wall. What more could I want. Breakfast in the medieval styled restaurant could not be faulted, fresh fruit, quality yoghurt, cooked breakfast of your choice coffee or tea.Delightfuly and efficiently served by the lady waitress. All the staff at the hotel were exceptionally helpful at all times. Many thanks to them all. The hotel is situated in the middle of Shrewsbury where most of the restaurants and very friendly pubs are such as the BULL next-door to the Prince Rupert hotel. I dined in for one dinner as I was tired after a long day walking around wonderful SHREWBURY.I had pan roasted duck in jus with green vegetables and dauphinoise potatoes plus starter and desert and 2 large beers for £40 pounds all in.Bargain if you ask me.

We paid an extra £10 for a larger more pleasant bathroom and this is what we got. The windows frames were covered in black mould obviously due to poor cleaning practices and the fact that the extractor fan is broken. The water didn’t run away in shower yet again due to poor cleaning practices. Then there was the dust on top of the headboard as per photo. All basic stuff. Shame on you. It’s a beautiful hotel and we have stayed many times but thorough cleaning is not a priority clearly. Staff very friendly.

Hadn't realised I'd stayed here before but I'm glad I came back. The place itself is absolutely magnificent, and the friendly staff are a real asset. The room itself was pleasant if an unusual footprint, but the bed was comfy and the shower worked a treat. I'm also delighted to report that the scrambled eggs were top notch.

Warm welcome with a glass of sherry offered which was appreciated on a cold day. The room was cosy and characterful with tea coffee and biscuits on offer. Lovely toiletries in the bathroom and plenty of hot water and white towels. Excellent breakfast with great choices and faultless service. My poached egg was perfect.

Lovely old quirky hotel . Staff are really friendly and helpful. Breakfast is great quality . Location is perfect right in the centre . I know it’s old but it is looking a bit shabby and tired in some parts and some of the furniture could do with being replaced. I would stay again though as I love the character and atmosphere of this hotel .

I arranged to meet friends for coffee & a sandwich Saturday morning. I had travelled from London, I used to live in Shrewsbury & it was always my favourite place to go. We ordered coffee which came then we asked for a menu the young lady said there is no food, so asked for biscuits same reply. We would not have ordered the coffee had we known that. It is an hotel so I would have thought food would be served, & biscuits in the room etc the dining room was in darkness. When we wanted to pay the bill I had to go look for the young lady who served us, she was perfectly pleasant & I’m sure embarrassed I found her in reception it seemed she was the only person working in all areas. I felt it was like a scene from faulty Towers.
