Stayed end of November for a friends wedding anniversary. There was scaffolding at the front of the premises being taken down early on the Sunday morning. As a result,we were given apologies, room upgrade and complimentary drinks voucher which we thought was very good business. We parked outside the front door and the car was taken to a local parking area for £5.Staff were... Only 10 minutes walk from train station & 5 minutes to the main shopping st.. Very welcoming & a complimentary glass of sherry on arrival. Clean comfortable rooms although needing a bit of attention here and there. Very creaky underfoot but only to be expected in a building of that age. Wander round the corridors & the place is full... On a friend's recommendation we tried the hotel only to be extremely disappointed. We are a couple that are not disappointed easily but this really ruined our eating experience this weekend. Bread -stale (told baked daily- another guest agreed with us) Risotto starter -bland, parfait starter -ok. Lamb main - dry. Fillet steak-amazing. Side order of veg- I can cook... More

I visited the Prince Rupert Hotel for two nights on business in November. I arrived late and initially struggled to find it. I drove around the town twice before checking the satnav and driving up fish street which had a pedestrian zone sign up. Image 1. (I did call ahead to clarify the parking situation but wasn't informed about finding... More

I stayed here with friends this month for a night out and a catch-up. The hotel is ideally placed but somewhat confusing to find with a car. Although there is a tourist sign pointing the way from the main road, you do think you are driving into a pedestrian zone. Further confusion occurred due to scaffolding and netting covering the... Don't EVER think about eating here...please believe me, it is atrocious. Rooms nice-not dissimilar to Premier-inn for most. Restaurant appalling. Freezing cold (as are the corridors of the hotel) with scant choice on menu. Googled menu the night before-looked good. In reality, looks nothing like this. Informed by manager that they 'change seasonally': didn't realise there was a change of... More

Fabulous hotel, lovely olde worlde feel and supposedly haunted! Friendly staff, room 7 was lovely and new bathroom was gorgeous! We were possibly a little rowdy on the night in the bar but the staff were lovely and attentive! Breakfast was good, plenty on menu and buffet. Great central location for shopping, restaurants and bars. Didn't realise there was a... More

Food delicious and reasonably priced and dining room ambience superb with suits of armour and stained glass windows. We wanted to see a particular band/concert (The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain) and since they weren't performing locally to us (we live in Exmouth), we decided to have a mid-week break in Shrewsbury. The original booking was for the Silverton. Luckily we found out that they'd closed suddenly a couple of days before we left. Not from them I... More

The historic grade II listed Prince Rupert Hotel is situated in the very heart of medieval Shrewsbury and just a short stroll from the individual shops and many tourist attractions. Surrounded by narrow cobblestone streets and black and white timbered buildings it provides the perfect base to explore beautiful Shrewsbury. A warm and friendly welcome is always provided to all guests with a glass of sherry on arrival. With the heritage of the hotel dating back to the 12th and 15th century, character and charm abound with sloping floors, exposed Tudor beams and a restored Jacobean staircase. Privately owned for many years by Michael & Diane Matthews, the hotel offers a great choice of dining all with a focus on fresh local produce. The Royalist is ideal for a special occasion with an a la carte menu together with a superb wine list. Chambers brasserie is renowned for its traditional British menu at sensible prices and located at the front of the hotel overlooking the gardens of St. Alkmunds square, Camellias Tea Rooms offers an extensive menu selection including traditional afternoon tea served on a three tier cake stand.
