Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The good: Dog friendly. The hotel is in a great location, in the town centre and right by the river for lovely walks. The owners and staff were lovely and helpful and there was a good breakfast. The not so good: There is limited parking, although there is a public car park very close, which is free overnight. Our main grump was that we had the basement room (we did know when we booked as this was the only room which could accomodate our dogs). However, the stairs down to it were very steep and as it was just below the entrance lobby it was quite noisy.

We had a lovely stay at the Abbots Mead hotel. My mum had a room on the first floor and my sister and I had a twin on the second floor. All rooms including the bar looked like they had been refurbished recently and were spotlessly clean. The beds were very comfortable. Parking in such a central location is a real bonus. Breakfasts were delicious and all staff we met, especially Eileen, were so friendly and professional. Would thoroughly recommend.

From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome. Our room including the bed was comfortable and there was ample storage. There was a good supply of tea and coffee sachets, including decaff. The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of choice on the menu. This was our second stay and we would go there again.

We spent three nights(2 couples) at this lovely little hotel. The location is perfect to explore everything Shrewsbury has to offer and right by the river. One of our biggest considerations when booking was whether we could take our four legged friend Max. He was welcomed with open arms and was given breakfast treats. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were looked after wonderfully by yhe family owners. Nothing was ever too much trouble and they certainly went the extra mile. Rooms are very clean and met all our requirements. The daily breakfast beautifully cooked and presented.. We would not hesitate to book again when we visit Shrewsbury. A wonderful home from home.

We stayed in room 5 which is quite small for a double but the main problem was the terrible smell of drains in the bathroom. We had arrived in the evening on a horrible wet day and were just glad of a bed for the night. If we kept the bathroom light on the extractor fan reduced the smell and as we were only there for one night we put up with it and reported it on check out. Breakfast however was really good, with a good selection of cereals and fresh fruit followed by excellent cooked breakfast - the kipper fillet and poached egg was a delight.

Perfect location just next to the river in a quiet location. However, just a few steps away and you are at the start of Wyle Cop which is an uninterrupted stretch of fabulous independent shops. Then on to the quirky streets of this beautiful medieval town and Britain’s favourite market to boot. The hotel is well decorated, comfortable, cosy and clean. It is run by 3 generations of the same family who are an absolute delight. Honestly, I don’t think you’d find friendlier hosts anywhere. The breakfast is absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked, bespoke and the ingredients are of excellent quality. You even have the benefit of free parking which is a major plus in Shrewsbury. Just perfect for a break away in this beautiful town and such good value. 5 stars from me!!

What an amazing place. Central to everything. Free parking. Right by the river for lovely walks. In the middle of town for lovely meals and drinks. Hotel spotlessly clean. Staff so friendly and helpful. Very dog friendly. Even our dogs got a sausage for breakfast. Can’t wait to come back. So much to see in Shrewsbury
