The hotel has character and the rooms are in keeping with the age of the hotel. Although the decoration in our room seemed dated, it was clean and more modern decoration wouldn’t look right. The staff were friendly and attentive & seemed as though nothing was too much trouble. Although there was a wedding setting up on the morning of our departure, this did not affect us as non wedding guests. Thank you to all the staff we look forward to visiting again

We'd stayed at the Albright Hussey a couple of times before. Admittedly it had been a few years ago but we previously great experiences on both visits. I had high hopes of getting the same when I booked an overnight stay with the intention of having a meal too for our wedding anniversary. I first looked on their website to see if booking direct was a cheaper option. It wasn't, so I booked via Booking.com, not realising at the time that the booking was not refundable. When on the website I was drawn to their steak night page, which proudly proclaimed, "Steak night at the Manor is Back for 2023" and "Saturday night is Steak Night." Sounded great I thought, so I immediately emailed them to reserve a table and to ask how to pay our deposit. After receiving no reply to the email, the next day I sent them an identical message via Booking.com, which was also ignored. However, I did get a stock message regarding "dinning", containing a link to their website, saying,"For a Friday, Saturday & Sunday evening please check if we are serving food as due to other events the dinning room is not always open." Really? Of course, by that time it was academic anyway because I had already booked and couldn't cancel. Eventually, my wife ended up having to phone them to get a response and of course on the night of our stay there was a private event. Not only was there no Steak Night, the restaurant would not be open to guests at all! Unbelievable! According to other reviews, this appears to be a common complaint. We reluctantly turned up and went to our "Executive Double Ensuite" room with garden view. This room was directly above reception and not the one I had supposedly booked according to the picture on Booking.com. The view from our window was of the drive leading to reception. There was no way we had a view of the garden. All rooms are advertised as having a telephone, an alarm clock, radio, and tea/coffee maker. We got none of those in our room. We got what you would normally get in a Premier Inn, a kettle, some tea bags, instant coffee, milk capsules plus a couple of open loose coffee filters. Oh, and I forgot about room service, though quite how we were supposed to get that is anyone's guess, considering we had no phone in the room! The bathroom had black mould stains in the tile grout. The toilet had a seat that was clearly never designed to fit the shape of the one it was fixed to. The bathroom fittings were cheap plastic that looked as if they were straight from Aliexpress. The room was hot but there was no way to turn the heating off, so we opened the window to get some fresh air. Then we were subjected to loud chatter from people presumably from the private event congregating in the outside smoking area, which happened to be directly below our window. I think they need to make up their minds whether they are a hotel or an events venue offering accommodation because they are clearly incapable of providing both services at the same time. It is rated in many places as being a four star venue... in my opinion it is far from it. If I could have, I would have cancelled the booking and gone elsewhere. We will never stay there again.

Response from paul subbiani, Owner at Albright Hussey Manor Hotel

Dear Mr Brookes I am very sorry to read your review below and that you did not enjoy parts of your stay. I would like to just point out a few points that you have missed from your review. Regarding food availability, it does clearly state on booking.com, that you should inquire at the time of booking, if food is available as the dining room is not always open. This is also clearly stated on our Web home page. I am sorry you did not note this at the time. The reason for this is that since 2021 we now specialise in private events so the venue is often fully booked, especially at the weekends. I did get your message that you really wanted to dine with us, as it was your anniversary, so despite that you were the only residents that wished to eat that night, as the other residents were attending the private event, I asked my chef to prepare a menu just for you, which included steak as you had requested. We sent you this menu, but to my surprise you then declined to dine with us and you decided that you preferred to dine out, which was not a problem for us, but disappointed to read that you omitted this from your review. The reason why your room looked different to the one on booking.com was due to the fact that we had upgraded you to a four poster room as it was your anniversary, and presumed this would have been a treat for you. Granted this room does not look directly over the lawn but I feel the views over the Shropshire countryside are more than acceptable. There should not have been stained silicone by the bath and this has since been rectified, and I apologise for this. You are correct that we are now an events venue offering accommodation and although I thought this was clear on our web description, I will try and make this more apparent. Once again I am sorry you were disappointed but we did try to meet your requests for dinner.

The rooms are a good size, clean and lots of instructions and warnings on laminated sheets to explain the quirky requirements of the set up. It’s very noisy you can hear each room either side and every door opening and closing. Even the kettle and tv next door! The front door sounds like a tank crashing into your room. No evening food available no Cooked breakfast available. Had to eat breakfast on a sofa as there was no dining room facilities 3 miles to town to get food. Bar shut at 21:30. Sorry but V Poor facilities however staff are friendly enough.

Very disappointed with our stay. No restaurant open the day we arrived so went to a pub for dinner. We were looking forward to the " wonderful" breakfast. Huge disappointment. Stone cold plates, undercooked bacon, insipid scrambled egg. It was only afterwards we found we could have ordered fried egg. No understanding of allergies. Pity. The room was comfortable but walls paper thin. We could hear every bang from nearby rooms. Curtains too flimsy to keep out the light.

We had our wedding at the Hussey and Paul and the team were amazing throughout. We met with Paul and the team on many occasions prior to the day and they helped us to plan and make the day very special. Our guests also loved the venue and we couldn’t recommend the venue enough. The team made sure the day was exactly as we needed, the food was great and everyone couldn’t speak highly enough about the Hussey.

We booked a private room & bar together with guest rooms for a small gathering post funeral, to celebrate mum's life. Absolutely gorgeous setting....quiet and peaceful. The rooms tastefully decorated and food smashing. The highligh for us was the staff. They were warm, courteous and friendly. Special thanks to Emma for helping organise the day. Steve & Chris for taking such very good care of us throughout. And the lovely receptionist who's name escapes me, but was a ray of sunshine on the front desk at all times. Thank you all for making a difficult day much more bearable. Highly recommend!

The hotel setting is lovely. The rooms are dated, in need to modernise to keep relevant. Breakfast was not great, continental would be cereal as pastries non existent. Cooked breakfast was average, toast was burnt day one and day two. Tea comes from a brewed pot, so invariably it was stewed. Expensive for it's quality. We were not able to eat at the hotel on the second night due to an event, we should have had that made clear when we booked that was the case. The bar of the hotel in the evening had no atmosphere and you had to search for someone to serve you. Overall the experience was average, could be so much better

We hosted our Happy ever after party at the Albright Hussey Manor on Saturday 6th May.  Everyone had a fabulous evening and the staff were brilliant and couldn't have been more helpful, it was a perfect stress free event. We opted for fresh Italian pizzas as they have an outside pizza oven and the accompanying salads and coleslaw were just fabulous. The room we hired has a great indoor/outdoor vibe with gorgeous outlook onto fields, it flowed really well. All guests were happy with their rooms and commented on the beautiful setting and views.  Full English breakfast was very good and the chef was so helpful, he made an effort to come out and speak to us all and even provided a sausage for the dog, the fresh pastries were an added bonus and were delicious.. I highly recommend this venue for any party/wedding ❤️

My wife and I booked this venue for our wedding. Can only describe it as an absolutely wonderful experience .The staff went out their way to ensure that the event went without a hitch. Paul, Emma and Lucy were extremely professional and nothing was too much trouble. We have received so many positive comments from all the wedding guests. We definitely have no hesitation in recommending this venue for any type of event as the location and the facilities are second to none.
