Detailed Reviews
We had this stay as a Christmas voucher, I searched the options and decided on this hotel. Easily booked with a more than helpful receptionist we were set to go.
Arriving at 3 we were welcomed , given what what , breakfast times etc and went to our room, Our room was beautiful, olde worldly with quality wood furniture, just what you expect in a period establishment . As were were going to Shrewsbury for the night we booked a taxi, recommended by the hotel, really reasonable £7 each way
We went to the bar waiting for the taxi, friendly, bright, clean and cosy and reasonable
Breakfast was a delicious cooked breakfast with all the extras, yoghurt croissants etc, fresh , hot and tasty, toast was plentiful and more if required
All in all a lovely weekend

We visited the restaurant as a family for Fathers Day. The food was excellent, the beef joint was cooked how we requested, lots of veg and the creamy peas with bacon were very tasty. Plenty of food and we were given more upon request. Lots of gravy and lovely crumble for pudding. Overall impressed with the roast.
Unfortunately there are a few things that would have made the overall experience a little more rounded. Things we expected to see from a posh hotel were things like linen napkins instead of paper and nice goblet gin glasses instead of the straight standard water glasses for gin & tonics. The staff were helpful, although they could have been more friendly and a ‘hello and welcome to our restaurant’ is always nice when you walk in before going straight to just bluntly saying what’s the name.. It’s just the little things that make a big difference I guess.

Our family of 5 spent an evening at the Albright Hussey pizza night this weekend. Firstly and most importantly the pizzas are delicious and excellent value, freshly prepared and cooked in an outdoor pizza oven we all agreed they were some of the best we have ever tasted (including holidays in Italy!) The laid back atmosphere adds to a great family night out, all the staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. This is clearly a business that has faced significant challenges in the last few months due to the ongoing pandemic, they are having to adapt and try something new and they are doing it with great success!!

Stayed in room 23 for a family wedding weekend. The room was very disappointing. Tired and very old fashioned decor (circa 1990s) Uncomfortable mattress on which you could feel springs. Poor quality bedding and towels. Bathroom also very dated and a bit grubby in terms of bits of mould, hairs etc. Also bathroom layout appalling....we literally had to walk sideways to get in the door and there was hardly any room to move once inside. Car park right next to the window so lots of noise. Also as other reviews have said you could hear people going for a pee upstairs because soundproofing non-existent. Cooked breakfast very average (hard egg, one sausage, one piece of bacon) and disappointed to see cheap, long life plastic wrapped croissants. How hard would it be to pop some fresh ones in the oven for 5 minutes? Rather than write a poor review after leaving I did raise my concerns with manager during our stay. He offered no apology and seemed almost resigned to my feedback. He just said "We've had a really busy season and no time to put rooms out of commission to do any work on them." Not really an explanation for not redecorating/refurbishing rooms for over 25 years. I just want to say it's a false economy as lack of attention to customer comfort and experience means you won't get repeat business! I'm guessing the owner literally banks on people like us who stayed for a wedding and had no choice but to pay for an overpriced room.

My wife and I stayed one night together with my business partner and his wife as a bit of a "business social". The location and venue are charming and it is no wonder it seems popular as a wedding destination.
Part of our reason for booking this hotel was to enjoy the Saturday Night Taster menu that had been advertised on the website at the time of booking the rooms. It was only when I telephoned in the preceding week to book a table for the taster evening that I was informed there was a wedding on that weekend and the restaurant was closed. Disappointing as this was, we accepted that the hotel was indeed a wedding venue and these things happen. We therefore drove elsewhere for our evening meal (The Fox and Hounds at Shawbury; I can recommend it).
However, my complaint is about something entirely different. The sound proofing in what I imagine is the 'new' building is simply dreadful. Every toilet flush, every standing "tinkle", every breaking of wind from adjacent rooms could be clearly heard. It really was quite appalling and I have never experienced anything quite so bad even in the cheapest Travelodge. It is not enough to say that this extension meets building regulations when, clearly, there is a sound proofing problem. I recommend management spends one night in room 25 when the block is otherwise full and you might get the picture. It is for this reason that we will never stay here again.
p.s. the staff we encountered were lovely

The day before our planned stay was advised via email no evening meal would be available, disappointed but too late to cancel. Upon check in told there was a private party that evening ( hence no evening meal). The room allocated was little more than a broom cupboard certainly no jacuzzi bath or four poster as stated on website (obviously these were allocated to the party guests far more important)
The terrace area & bar were cordoned off for the evening party so no facilities available & to add to our unpleasant stay the party went on way past midnight with young children running around shouting & screaming outside our ground floor window. Surely the proprietor should not be taking bookings when a private party is the sole user of the advertised facilities. I have emailed the owner as I feel cheated & really unhappy but as yet no reply, I think that says a lot for his respect of his paying guests. Would not recommend & certainly did not meet our expectation of 4* hotel.

Response from paul subbiani, Owner at Albright Hussey Manor Hotel
Responded 31 Aug 2022
Dear Liz Please excuse the delay in replying but I have been out of the office for a few days. I am sorry that that you did not enjoy your stay with us. I would like to point out that we are a Manor house offering accommodation and specialize in private events as stated on our website and we do not promote ourselves as a 4 star hotel. I am sorry if the third party website you booked through has described our business incorrectly to you and I will look into this immediately. I would also like to point out that you booked a single Bijous room for single occupancy for your stay; hence you had a smaller room although it turned out that there were two of you actually staying. You mention that you were expecting a four poster bed and a Jacuzzi bath, you are correct that some of our rooms do have these facilities but they were all booked, but these are our deluxe suites at £200+ per night not the rate of £74.29 for a single room that you booked. We did have a private party on that evening as we had informed you once we received your booking. We do have a separate resident’s lounge in the old Manor that you could have used and I am surprised this was not offered to you, the terrace was also available to you as the party did not have sole use of the gardens and consequently there were other residents on the terrace not associated with the event having drinks out there. I am sorry for any miscommunication that you may have received. Kind regards Paul Subbiani

Booked last minute for one night. Hotels.com indicated that it was in Shrewsbury, but that turned out not to mean the town centre (even though other hotels showed the distance from the centre). So having been advised that there was no evening meal available to purchase on site after booking, we asked for recommendations nearby. The place they recommended was basically a pub chain on a new estate that had stopped serving! A wasted taxi fare to add to a £120 fee for a basic room. Breakfast was offered for sale to take away, they would not even serve you oats at a table, but you could pay to take them away in a paper bag. Poor value, and if you are miles away from the nearest restaurant, at least bother to serve food if you advertise you have a restaurant. The room was nothing special.

My friends and I (4 in total) arrived for the barbq with the eat out to help out scheme. We signed in and found a table, it had not been cleaned!!!! So my partner went to the bar and was given a cloth and fluid to clean it himself. We didn't really know how it worked but we soon figured it out. We thoroughly enjoyed the views across the beautiful shropshire countryside. All of us thought the food was tasty but the price did not reflect the quantity (about the size of a starter) and were left hungry. A young girl came and cleared our table, her dress was quite inappropriate, in no way corporate, looked like someone's daughter. I feel we got what we paid for which to me means the restaurant are pocketing the contribution from the government. I have messaged them via messenger with my points but have heard nothing back. The staff were dour. We were prepared to stay a few hours so took warm clothing and blankets, we were there no longer than an hour. All in all a very disappointing experience. Such as shame as it's a stunning location.

The rooms are a good size, clean and lots of instructions and warnings on laminated sheets to explain the quirky requirements of the set up.
It’s very noisy you can hear each room either side and every door opening and closing. Even the kettle and tv next door! The front door sounds like a tank crashing into your room.
No evening food available no Cooked breakfast available. Had to eat breakfast on a sofa as there was no dining room facilities 3 miles to town to get food. Bar shut at 21:30.
Sorry but V Poor facilities however staff are friendly enough.

We booked a superior double room which looked delightful on the hotel website. Unfortunately, the room we were given was very disappointing and defnitely not 4 star standard. The room onviously needed upgrading. There was no fridge in the room.
Our main complaint was the bathroom. There was dirty brown around the base of the lavatory. The lavatory seat was cracked and flaking and the underneath rim was dark brown and obviously had not been cleaned for years. There was also black mold on the shower wall. It was also next to the laundry room which was in constant use.
Our two night stay cost £254. The hotel's saving grace were the public rooms, a good breakfast and very helpful staff.
We regularly stay in 4 or 5 star accommodation including 5 star cruise ships. It is rare
for us to make a complaint. The only way we would stay in the hotel again is if we had the kind of 4 star room we were expecting.
