Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hotel is well situated with a small car park. Great if you can get a space, which we did, but be prepared for parking costs if you are unlucky. We had a room on the first floor which was clean and spacious but was rather noisy from the street below. Lots of sanitisers in place both in the hotel area and pub below. Meals were good and quickly served but I've never been to a bar which had run out of so much stock. Many draught beers off and spirits sold out...not one vodka was available. Despite a few glitches this was a good value stay in a hotel which had taken care to provide a safe and clean environment during difficult times.

I stayed here Tuesday to Friday this week. I wasn't sure what to expect due to the current situation but it was absolutely fine. Hand sanitiser and clear signage throughout the hotel and pub made it all very easy.

My room was fine, overlooking the carpark at the front but we're in a town remember! Bathroom a very good size with liquid soap at the sink and next to the shower and plenty of towels. Iron and board, hair dryer plus of course tea, coffee and biscuits next to the kettle.

I ate here a few times and thought the food was very good. Much better than my local Wetherspoons :0) And as usual the prices are amazing.

Location is great, a 5 minute walk from the railway station and the town centre is on the doorstep, as are some lovely river walks. The town has so many absolutely beautiful old buildings if that's your thing.

To sum up I had a great stay, very reasonably priced too. I'd recommend it and would stay here again,

Honestly don’t understand some of the bad reviews of this hotel. We stayed here for 3 nights over a weekend and had absolutely no issues or problems whatsoever. Check in was easy, room was immaculately clean and staff were very helpful. Due to Covid, the cleaners did not go in the rooms, however clear bags of tea, coffee, sugar, water, biscuits etc was left outside daily. Lady on reception (unfortunately didn’t get her name), was brilliant - the few things we asked for she did with no hesitation and within a short space of time - she is a credit to hotel. Will definitely return.

Stayed in room 101
The view out of the windows was of extraction ducts and associated air conditioning units within a couple of feet from the windows . They put up secondary sliding glazing units for the noise that only partially cut down the droning sound and in the bedroom opaque transfers to obscure the horrific view. Asked reception on the day of check in if another room was available but they said not on that day but we could enquire the next day etc. We did not request a further room change because we had already unpacked suitcases and my partner said we only had one more night to stay etc.
The only thing I can say is that they provided a fan for the room , because you could not get any sleep with the window open because of the constant droning sound of the extraction system . Can say that the staff and food and service from the bar was excellent without any undue wait. But will not go back in case we are allocated that room once more.

The location of this hotel is perfect, right on the river and within walking distance of the town bars and restaurants . We stopped in May 22 when a lot of work was being carried out with scaffolding to the front of the building. This was fine and was advised in advance of our stay . We stopped in room 111, be warned the view is appalling, looking over a roof top and not much else . Reception is not manned until 2pm which I found odd to say the least. When we tried to phone from reception we was quite rudely told that we cannot check in until 2pm and that we should go and gave a drink in the bar. We was advised of free WiFi but this is non existent and only works for a few minutes now and then. The room was basic and small with a tiny tv, kettle and a few packet drinks. The bathroom was on the small side with a mirror at waist height above the sink. Unless you're 4ft 2 having a shave would be near impossible unless you want a bad back. The main room has a cupboard and 2 bedside tables, all cheap and cheerful but adequate for a short stay. At the top of the bed is a desk with a single chair that houses the kettle, again cheap but in keeping with the other furniture. There's no air conditioning but there is an old fashioned wall mounted heater with no instructions. The room itself was clean enough I suppose just very dated and not in keeping with other hotels of similar value. Overall I don't think I would stay again especially when there is a Premier Inn just 5 mins down the road.

Pro’s first, clean room, water pressure good on shower and the water was hot, there was an iron, ironing board, hair dryer and hand wash, plenty of towels and tea and coffee etc.
Con’s, got woke up at 7:10 am by the brewery delivery, banging and cluttering right outside our bedroom window for 50 minutes!, I know it’s a pub that needs it beer delivered but 7:10am in unsociable hours. When we finally got back to sleep at around 8:40am a cleaner burst into our room while we were still asleep in the bed!! They did apologise but the damage had been done, luckily we were only sleeping!! Pillows quite hard too! We arrived 10 minutes before check-in time of 2pm where me and my disabled wife were told it’s too early for check-in and had to wait outside for Ten minutes before we were allowed to go into our room.

Probably the best value fish & Chips in town , the fish is good quality, not the usual processed offerings at this price range. Week days your price includes a drink .... bargain 👌this pub is definitely worth a visit for a good value meal

You know what you get with Spoons which is value for money everytime. The food and drink are so ridiculously cheap and it is cooked well. What I find from most Weatherspoons and with this establishment is just how hard the staff work and just how friendly and efficient they are. This is what makes it work. People who expect so much can be critical but you always know what you get here and that is really satisfactory every time. Full Covid 19 hygiene and controls in place too.

The hotel is a Wetherspoons hotel and is centrally located in Shrewsbury s not for to walk to pubs, bars, restaurants, shops, the river etc.
We had a double room. The hotel has scaffolding outside as they are having it painted outside. It could really d with being painted inside also as it’s very tired looking. Our room was very basic. Open wardrobe, bedside tables but no drawers. There was iron, ironing board, hairdryer and tea coffee and biscuits in the room. The bedroom was t made up every day, but the bathroom wasn’t cleaned whilst we were there and it was the thinnest toilet roll ever! Strange really as the toilet roll in the toilets in the pub was fine.
Out room was quite small and on the second floor…no lift!! No so good if you can’t carry cases. Fortunately we were fine, but some might struggle.
We bought a bottle of who at the bar and took it to our room when th the glasses. It was fine. The night after we bought another, but the screw top was taken off and we were told that they can’t sell it with the top on! We didn’t drink it all thought we’d have it the following day, but the wine glasses had been removed from our room!!! And NOT replaced. We used the beakers for the coffee. It may sound petty, but good customer service means customers will return. Sadly ….we will not be returning to this hotel.
