This was a break booked through Secret Escapes that had been postponed since lockdown so we were very pleased to be finally able to rebook our stay. On arrival we were unable to find a space in the hotel car park so used the long stay across the road. £5 cheaper per day and not too far to walk at all.
We were greeted by a lovely lady who was really friendly and so helpful, I’m sorry I didn’t get her name. Everything was clearly explained regarding their operations during the current situation which included a one way system in and out, no cleaning of rooms, limited drinks at the bar etc. We were also given written details explaining this so people leaving reviews complaining about such issues must realise that the hotel is doing its best to operate safely and in the interest of its customers.
So, the room was fine, very clean, extremely comfy bed, excellent rain shower, mini fridge, iron, air con, great tv.
We dined in the restaurant at late notice, nothing was too much trouble, all tables were spaced apart and thoroughly cleaned between guests. Really nice meal and excellent service.
So a few negatives. Breakfast was a bit disorganised, no toast on the first day, but we were given it on the second. It had barely seen a toaster and was cold. We had to ask for butter and side plates, chase up our coffee. We didn’t get preserves and couldn’t be bothered to ask again as I hate to keep on. Full English and Eggs Benedict were nice, but not that impressive for £15! Quality of ingredients was some what poor and nothing was very hot. There was plenty of very helpful and friendly staff and I just think they need to have a better system for service in place.
Now what spoilt my second night was a 3hr domestic argument! So thank you to couple that were staying on Saturday 2nd August on the first floor next to room 129. Your language was disgusting and your total disregard for other guests was appalling. Constant screaming and shouting and banging of doors.
The walls are very thin between rooms so be prepared for disturbance!
Generally we had a lovely stay and as the hotel is so close to the city centre it is a perfect location. I would recommend the Francis Hotel and I hope that the lovely staff can work through a few little issues to make it perfect. I appreciate that they can’t be held responsible for the disturbed night!

We were lucky enough to visit just after the covid restrictions were lifted in December and had a memorable and highly enjoyable stay. Our room was warm and cosy with bath robes, slippers and a mini bar and we were able to select a room with a bath on check-in. The staff were all superb, very covid aware and friendly. We luckily managed to find a space in the car park which costs £20 per night.

We had one small incident where we waited a very long time for a sandwich and wrap at lunchtime and the wrap then arrived quite burned but on mentioning it to our waitress the cost of it was removed from our bill with apologies.

We will definitely return here for our next visit when hopefully coronavirus will just be a dim and distant memory.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Francis Hotel for 2 nights during October half term and firstly, it was a lovely hotel. Fantastic location (and unusually for Bath had its own car park) overlooking Queen Square and right in the centre of Bath.

The rooms itself were a great size, comfortable beds, and the shower had excellent pressure and heated up quickly. When we got there to check in, we were told the room wouldn’t be ready until 2-3pm due to “covid cleaning”... Not really sure what that meant as there was still a fair amount of dust on the headboard and the curtains and our room wasn’t made up once during our stay. The room was overall clean, but I’m not sure why we couldn’t get into the room at midday nor why the room wasn’t made up subsequently.

The breakfast was very good, especially considering it was included in the price of the room. However the service was a bit haphazard... Very slow on the first morning, then on the second morning it was much quicker, but the portion sizes had been significantly reduced! Some of the staff were great, others were not so great. The food itself was delicious, but it would have been nice if the apple and orange juice weren’t from concentrate.

The bed was very comfortable, but due to personal preferences, we would have preferred a double bed as opposed to two separate mattresses zipped together. There was also quite a lot of light coming through the door frame into the room all night, which was quite annoying. However the blackout curtains were good, and the White Company toiletries were a really nice touch. Again, my only slight criticism on the bathroom itself would have been to have a non-slip mat in the shower tray as I slipped a couple of times in the bath tub whilst having a shower.

Another really nice added touch was a complimentary bottle of wine due to a room mix up! A random woman tried to get into our room as the reception thought the room was free. In any case, the reception handled it really well (and we completely understood that this was an honest mistake and weren’t expecting anything from it). The covid-secure layout of the hotel was also organised very well and wasn’t a pain at all.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to others, but some of the service (mostly due to staffing) could have been a bit better.

We originally booked a Superior Room but received an email with an offer to upgrade to the Feature Room for £28 for two nights. The room was lovely, eclectic decor and spacious, facing the back of the hotel into the car park. On both nights we experienced a lot of seagull noise throughout the night. On one the mornings a lovely seagull decided to leave a present on top of my sunroof! We were not impressed.

We arrived on the Wednesday and stayed for two nights. On Thursday morning around 0915, a maid came into the room without knocking, asking if we needed to change our towels. I said no thanks, she then left. We then left at 0930 to go and have breakfast downstairs. Came back thinking the maid would have cleaned the room, but it was still the same. We left at 1100 and I decided to hang a card on the door saying please clean the room. We were out for the day and returned early evening. The room was still the same. I was not impressed. I used to work in the hotel business in Spain. I am sure the maids could have checked the rooms which have not been cleaned one last time before end of the day?

We had breakfast included with our booking on both mornings. My partner had the continental breakfast on the first morning which was not satisfactory. The menu was cereal, pastries, fruit, tea/coffee and juice. Unfortunately, he does not like cereal so only had the fruit and the pastries. The pastries were small. One plain croissant and one pain au chocolat. There should have been more pastries or an alternative choice. I had the full English which was lovely. I did not receive any toast on the first morning or the orange juices we ordered. The second morning we both had full English and received everything which was ordered. No complaints there.

Apart from the above not cleaning the room and the missing orders it was a pleasant mini break away for my birthday.

P.S Bath Council need to do something about the amount of seagulls causing commotion!

We had a 2 day break st the Francis Hotel and other than its great location the Hotel itself was IMO only average compared to other 4 star hotels we have stayed at.
The Hotel has the advantage of a car park which is good for Bath but it comes at a cost of £20 per day getting close to London prices. The Hotel's restaurant is run by a Raymond Blanc franchise and we had one dinner there during our stay but my wife's main meal was unedable and although they took it off the bill its not what you expect from a 4 star Hotel. The breakfast which was served in the same room also lacked a lot of choice with little fruit and only four juices and a limited range of teas.
Our room which was a Superior Double was very small although it did overlook the square but as a result suffered from traffic noise but the bathroom was cold as it had no heating although the shower was excellent.

We booked a few days in Bath via Secret Escapes. Great price and reviews looked good.

We arrived early and luckily one space was available on the car park. The cost per night was included in our price paid to Secret Escapes.

We were allowed to book in early, our room was on the top floor, the room was dark with low ceilings and small windows. The lady on reception was very helpful and moved us to a brighter room which looked like it had been redecorated ?

On first arrival our room looked ok, but to be honest the room was not as clean as we would have expected with regards to covid. The room looked old, tatty and dated.

The next morning we waited for our breakfast to arrive at the agreed time of 9am which we understood was continental breakfasts as per the information given to us by Secret Escapes. Eventually we rang at 9.20am to be told we should have been in the restaurant. After agreeing for our breakfast to be sent to our room it arrived 25 minutes later. There was no covers on our food and it had been carried through the hotel like this. Not very tasty at all and cold !

Apparently we should completed a card which was in an envelope that was given to us, no explanation was given to us about the contents of the envelope. A little explanation would have been nice ?

On the 2nd day we came back from a day around the shops and our room had not been cleaned, just used towels removed and clean ones left on the sofa in the room, a new toilet roll and fresh shower gel. I know there’s been Covid and we understand staying safe is of the utmost importance but if the housekeeping staff wear all the required PPE what stops them from making the bed, quickly clean the room and hoover.

The general public areas were well set out with a one way system and staff wearing PPE. The public areas are nicely decorated but unfortunately behind this area the rooms are tired and dated.

I’m not sure I would class this as a luxury hotel. There certainly needs improvement in the standard of accommodation but also cleanliness.

Disappointed and sorry to say we would not return or recommend.

We were met by Beverly who gave us a very warm welcome to the hotel. She offered excellent advice for local restaurants, bars and cafe's to suit our taste. She talked us through what the city had to offer and indicated all the key tourist sites on a map for us. On top of this our room was upgraded to a beautiful room overlooking Queens square where the trees were in Spring blossom.
The room was very spacious, stylish, perfectly clean and well equipped with not only tea making facilities but an espresso machine as well. Very generously sized en suite and super-king bed which was very comfortable. Very little noise from other rooms and very little noise from the street despite being next to the road.
Breakfast was included and of a very good standard, with lots of choice.
Parking is available for a charge which is advantageous as Bath has limited parking.
On top of all this, the hotel is perfectly situated to explore the whole city on foot, with high quality restaurants minutes walk away and all the tourist sites within a short walk.
We highly recommend The Francis Hotel and its staff for a great long weekend in Bath.

This has to be my new favourite hotel. The staff really take time to make sure you enjoy your stay with them. Ate afternoon tea and breakfast (both delicious), drank in bar. Good selection of drinks.

Room 317 was beautifully decorated. We had put our name down to upgrade but they didn't have any left, to be perfectly honest I was so pleased with our room anyway.

Hotel is very quiet, beds super comfy (standard queen / double) shower hot and powerful (needs grab rail as, despite being fully mobile, I felt unsafe getting out as floor+ bath mat is slippy and you have to hold on to the glass screen). Even plugs, lights and mirrors and where you need them.

Re covid, hotel cleanliness was faultless, staff all wore masks so guests didn't have to. Only compromise it seemed was that we didn't have our room attended on the 2nd day, but attendant called to offer us more teas tray supplies.

Particular thanks to the following people who made us feel Special. (sorry for not asking your names) 1.
Tall young lady with dark hair who worked breakfast on the 26th and 27th who we discussed restaurants in the town with. (I loved the Wadi ;-))

Th Persuasion fan who checked us in.

Good luck everyone at the Francis on the Covid recovery.

Had an amazing and comfortable two night stay at the Francis, apart from being in a central location, the room was huge and extremely clean. The common areas were clearly marked helping customers to navigate seamlessly in and out. Really appreciated that they had hand sanitizers everywhere for that added feeling of ease for the hygiene anxious like myself. I also loved the fact that they took extra precaution to not enter your room when you are out to ensure no cross contamination. Though we did not spend a lot of time in the hotel during the day, I absolutely loved the decor in the common areas.

I have been to the Francis Hotel a few times now (and have also booked a "Festive Break" with them) and have always found the staff to be helpful, polite friendly and most of all professional. There are a few that need to be recognised, as they are always ready to do what they can, and go the extra mile to make your stay the best it can be.

Paige is a warm friendly person, on my last visit I mentioned that Gremlins had eaten all the biscuits, so on this visit (for my birthday) I found a little present, look at te photographs and you will understand. Katherine, Alison, Beverley and Yasmine all deserve a mention for what they do.

So, the stay, great room, clean, tidy, comfortable, huge comfortable bed, big TV. What I really liked was the fact that housekeeping actually knocked the door to ask if we would like our room made up after the first night.

Paul in the bar is a character, always smiling, always happy for a chat.

Food was as good as remembered, and Simona in the restaurant made us a special cocktail personally.

Breakfast is great, you can ask for things not on the menu (fried bread, my favourite) and nothing is ever a problem.

Check in and out was quick, seamless and streamlined (I have a card registered, and check in on line).

All Covid precautions seemed to be in place, with staff earing masks. This leads me back to the title of this review, after reading some of the more recent reviews, I wondered if I was in the same place, but I guess everyone is an individual, it would be a boring life if we were all the same.

Personally I have never had a problem with the staff, the room, the food, the cleanliness or anything else. They are happy to do what they can to make sure your stay is the best it can be (which is why I have booked a 3 night Festive Break, and am really looking forward to it).

I would not hesitate in recommending this Hotel to anyone....

Glad to help. The hotel is on Queen Square. There is parking on the street, but it was generally difficult to find a space. I did not see other parking lots nearby, but I suspect there are some. Parking at the hotel is in the back, the front desk will give you a ticket to get into the lot through the gate. The cost of parking was £20 GBP per day. This was not bad compared to other hotel parking in the UK. I also felt that our car was secure in the lot. Note this hotel is within easy walk of the Roman Baths and downtown shopping/restaurants. If I went back I would stay there again and park there again. Hope this helps. Fun travels!
