We have lived in Bath for 3 years and have never eaten here before and I can't think why we haven't done it sooner! It was a special lunch offer, £40 for a four course taster lunch to include a drink. I thought, sparrow sized servings. I couldn't have been more surprised, it was the best food we've had since moving here! I couldn't fault a thing. We were shown to lovely lounge, super squishy sofas and armchairs and art work on the walls. Windows faced onto the lovely garden. A glass of excellent champagne, with 3 of each canapes, light crispy and very tasty. The menu was described to us and dietary requirement checked then through to the bright dining room, crisp white linen tables you could have fitted 4 good sized adults around and still have room. Artichoke soup first, (from memory), an artichoke puree with egg yolk emulsification, artichoke crisps and hazelnuts. Poured over this was a light artichoke foam, delicious plus 3 little home made breads warm and crusty. Next sea bass ceviche, soft fish with blobs of avacado puree, and a puffed up cracker. Main was buttery soft venison on a bed of brussel sprout puree, a delicious sauce and a venison cottage style pie. Would like to say this was my favourite but I couldn't choose until the desert came. Orange souffle, the tallest I've ever seen. Crispy outer and soft cloud like centre, accompanied by a cardamom icecream which just nestled into the centre of my souffle. I could go back for the same meal over and over. They obviously have excellent and creative kitchen staff who care about the food they offer. There was definitely no skimping on standards just because it was a special offer. The waiting on staff were excellent too. Do go, you won't be disappointed.

We stayed three nights in a superior room with a lovely view of the garden on the second floor. The hotel has no lift but lots of stairs and staff are very happy to bring luggage up and down. The room, Heather, was spacious and very comfortable with large bathroom. The shower was over the bath and I felt it was rather difficult to get into with no safety rail on the wall to hold onto. Towels were soft and replaced regularly and very nice L’occitane toilet products. The carpet in our bed was rather stained in places although attempts had been made to clean it. Coffee and tea were supplied and fresh milk was promptly delivered. However no biscuits were provided which would have been appreciated.
The bed was comfortable and pillows nice and soft, unfortunately the next morning I saw that the top sheet and several holes in it which was reported to reception and the sheet was promptly changed.
On return back at 4.30 pm on the second day our room was not made up, again reception were very apologetic and offered free tea whilst the room was done.
The third morning I noticed that the blanket in between the 2 sheets as top covering was badly ripped in several places. Staff were mortified and suitable adjustments made to our bill.
Breakfasts were delightful with a good buffet and a large selection of freshly prepared hot dishes. Freshly squeezed orange juice was greatly appreciated. My only comment would be that at times items on the buffet were not replenished swiftly.
The dining room is charming and the waiting staff absolutely delightful.
We had dinner in the restaurant first and third nights. First night was faultless with excellent food, third night we were called to our table and then had to wait 25 mins for our first course. Again on complaining suitable adjustments were made. The middle night we had dinner in the bar which was good and a nice change.
The hotel has 2 lounges, a big one with access to the garden which is comfortable but rather over dominated by very large Victorian portraits. The smaller lounge cum library is cosier. The personal art collection displayed all around the hotel is very interesting apart from those in the lounge.
The garden is lovely but of course not at its best in a cold, rainy February.
When we returned home we discovered that there was an error in our bill, charging us for someone else’s lunch but this was swiftly put right following a telephone call.
Just to note it takes about 30 mins to walk into the centre of Bath from the hotel and there is no regular bus service outside the hotel, a 10 min walk is needed to catch the right bus.

In summary the reception and waiting staff are exceptional and go out of their way to make you feel you are staying in rather a grand home but with attention to all the niggles it could indeed be a 5 star experience.

Our first nights away since March were eagerly anticipated and the post COVID experience provided by the Priory was as close to normal as it is reasonable to expect.

The obvious changes were a screen on the front desk and sanitiser stations dotted throughout. However more subtle changes were unobtrusive and effective - staff keeping distance, a slight amendment to food delivery to tables and breakfast available in your room at no additional.

The food was excellent, the staff attentive and unobtrusive and the hotel spotlessly clean. Our room on the ground floor had a terrace overlooking the beautiful gardens and, although not anticipated, the further lifting of restrictions allowed us to use the outdoor pool for the first time.

A lovely hotel that is well run and maintained. Have no fear in booking, you will be safe and well looked after.

Dear interestedwanderer, thank you so much for your kind review. I am delighted to learn that all of our efforts in the build up to the long anticipated reopening have been recognised and appreciated. The changes, in line with government guidelines, have also provided us with the opportunity to think out of the box perhaps in an innovative way. The lifting of the restrictions with regards to the use of the outdoor swimming pool has also been a great move in order for our guests to enjoy our beautifully manicured garden. Thank you also for your very encouraging and positive comments particularly the quality of our cuisine and the delivery of the service. I sincerely hope that you will be visiting again and I am looking forward to welcoming you back again soon. Warmest regards

When we arrived, the hotel looked great, we had our temperature checked and were shown to our room, we weren’t given any information about booking the pool, restaurant booking etc. We called the spa and were told both pools was booked for the day, you can only book on the day, fair enough they have limited numbers due to Covid restrictions. The grounds are lovely so we explored them. We had previously booked the pantry restaurant for dinner at 6.00 so went to the lounge at 5.30 for a drink first, we were there twenty minutes before we had to get one of the staff to notice us and ordered drinks then it was time to go to our table anyway. The service was quite slow but the food and staff were great, I had to ask the waiter what the protocol was for breakfast he was shocked we hadn’t been given any details and the welcome letter, which he promptly gave us. We ordered room service for breakfast between 9-10 at 10.10 there was no sign of the breakfast so I called reception, there was no apology just told it would be with us in 5-10 minutes, which it was but the drinks were missing so called again and 2 drinks arrived and not three, I was cross by then and the poor girl got my anger, I was told they are very busy but this is 5 star hotel and I have stayed at plenty!! I called reception again early evening to order a room service menus and further breakfast room service slips, she said they would pop them straight in, an hour and a half later still no sign!! The turn down lady arrived and I had to ask her again and they eventually arrived, but they took so long we went out for dinner. I think the hotel is lovely but for me it’s all about the service and this hotel falls down on this area, which is a real shame

A night at your hotel, was a Christmas gift to me from my husband.
Asked a couple of friends to share the experience with us.
I state experience...arrived at around 3pm, reception really didn't know what to do with us, plenty of staff on duty, eventually a member staff showed us to our rooms.
The room it's self was large, with a lovely view of the garden, plumbing in the bathroom was a little suspect, once the toilet was flushed, the wait for it to refill was endless.
Dinner was taken in the fine dining room, waiting staff were effiecient, although the head waiter was a little impatient, when he wanted to explain the food.
We were on a package break, so very pleased that we didn't have to pay £85 per person, for what was really nothing very special.
We were a little surprised, for a hotel of this standing, to have no turn down service, and towels replaced.
The general appearance of the staff was a little scruffy, for a Chateau Relais.

As our son was away with school we decided to book a two night stay at the Bath Priory for a bit of a chill out and relaxation. We had a Junior suite with its own sitting room which overlooked the large gardens.
Our welcome was friendly and efficient. although finding space in the car park was difficult, but a spot became free and we grabbed it.
The room was well appointed and despite Covid restrictions there was biscuits, fruit and a small decanter of port. The hotel unlike many others is still offering turndown and daily cleaning although staff will not enter the room if you are present. A sensible compromise in my view.
Dinner was excellent, although we were disappointed that the menu was the same on both nights. I would have thought the hotel could manage at least one new daily special each evening as I suspect I’d be unhappy with the limited choice if we had stayed for longer.
The spa needed to be booked, but guests were not offered exclusive use in their time slot, which I felt uncomfortable with having stayed elsewhere that did operate like that. On the second occasion we decided not to swim in the spa and went for the outdoor pool which was nice but very shallow. It is also away from the spa area which I assume is a historic thing but it seemed neglected because of it.
All the staff are friendly and helpful.
I must however warn that having given my food allergies on check-in they had not been picked up in the kitchen and I was served an amuse-bouche that I could not eat. To be fair the waiting staff were most apologetic and chef quickly whipped up an alternate, luckily my allergies are not serious, but one for others to note.
Overall we had a great relaxing time and I am sure we will return in the future

We had a 3 night New Year's Eve Package which was a wonderful experience.
From the welcome we received when we arrived to the check out when we left was excellent throughout.
The staff were attentive, welcoming, friendly and efficient. The food was carefully chosen, beautifully presented and delicious. The guided tour of Bath and the wine tasting were very well organised and informative.
Quality comes at a price in terms of staff and food and we felt that the quality reflected that and exceeded our expectations.
This was our fourth visit and will certainly not be the last.

A tired old house in desperate need of an overhaul the most expensive hotel in Bath with very few redeeming features
Unfriendly front of house staff, the Classic Room we were given was noisy with two double sockets in the furthest corner of the room not really convenient for charging you phone or to plug your laptop in unless you wanted to sit on the floor.
A mismatch of old furniture in the room gave it a charming feel of an old cottage in Grimsby
The most expensive afternoon tea outside of London I have ever had. The scones were overworked and no one came up to offer to replenish the tea let alone the sandwiches
My final point don’t employ miserable people at breakfast no one wants to start there morning off feeling like the manageress of the breakfast room is doing you a favour

We joined some friends for an overnight stay with dinner costing £299. The rooms were fine and apart from one of the mains the dinner was fine. Check in was muddled but in the end was fine except for being asked to pay another deposit for extras of £50 per couple which we paid but thought unnecessary having paid the £299 some time before when booking. The receptionist asked why we were there which was I thought obvious standing in reception with cases. On departure we were presented with the bill for each room which we asked to add together and we would then split and pay half each. She appeared confused and seemed unable to do this. She also had not deducted the deposits paid. A second receptionist arrived to help. She added the two bills and divided by two but still had not deducted the deposit. We queried this again and she explained that they would not request the deposit but leaving it pending for the card issuer. Why do it like this when the first bill showed the deal charge in full and then deducted. Why not treat both in the same way!
Generally the attitude of the staff was friendly but they seemed to lack sufficient training.
We have stayed at an other Brownsword hotel which was faultless. Training needed here.

Spent a Sunday night here & glad to see the hotel was busy. Took lunch in one of the lounges, did feel £18 was a little steep for a steak sandwich. Reception staff where friendly & welcoming. Bedroom was large & well decorated, we had been upgraded & had a great view of the gardens, with a small balcony. There was a great supply of coffee, tea etc & the bathroom amenities were also plentiful. Choice of menu in the dining room we thought was slightly limited at dinner. Meals where well presented & tasty but not too generous in quantity. Felt wine list was over priced when compared to other 5 star establishments. Breakfast was good quality products which where well prepared.
