Nestled within four acres of mature award-winning gardens and spacious terraces, The Bath Priory sets itself apart as a peaceful haven in a bustling city. The Georgian house of honey-coloured Bath stone enjoys a tranquil location just a short walk through Royal Victoria Park to Bath’s city centre. The award-winning spa has a selection of luxurious treatments, an indoor pool, pool-side sauna, elliptical steam pod and shower. From the moment you enter The Garden Spa by L’OCCITANE, fragrances transport you to Provence; the escape begins with scent. Every gesture, every ingredient, every ritual is drawn from a page of the L’OCCITANE grand herbarium, a resource of hundreds of essential oils and natural ingredients. Steeped in Roman history, the city of Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Roman Baths, Pump Rooms and Theatre Royal are noteworthy highlights alongside the city’s architectural merits including the Royal Crescent and The Circus.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed at the Bath Priory this past weekend. While the staff was all very lovely and accommodating, we were surprised by the conditions of the room. The hotel was presented as 5 star location, but didn't feel anything like that. Have attached some photos, but a few things stuck out - There were scuff marks all over the walls that hadn't been repainted -There was a dead fly along with other marks on the window shades -There were stains on the chair -There was a stain on the bathrobe -The lamp seemed to be severely chipped -This wasn't a room issue, but I was surprised that we were only given one shower gel to use. One would expect with a bath tub there would be bath gel or something available, but we were told we could only buy it from the spa. The state of the room was more like a motel than what one would expect of a 5 star place. And the bath situation really accentuated the sense that they were more focused on cutting costs than creating a 5 star environment. I know that the Christmas Markets and Bath Rugby may have heightened prices for the weekend, but the rates they were charging felt like excessive price gouging. I appreciate that the front desk removed some of the room charges when we mentioned our concerns at checkout, but overall I just wanted to share that it's disappointing to see a place take so little pride in the state of its facilities. It put a damper on the weekend and gave us good direction to avoid any of the Brownsword hotels in the future.

It used to be our favourite place for celebratory meals, but it has lost its cachet. We booked for Sunday lunch to catch up with friends, expecting to be in their elegant dining room. Instead we were seated at 2 card tables just outside the bar, as if in a pub. No traditional Sunday lunch, just a choice of 4 small plates (fish, meat, vegetarian, desserts - each with 4 choices - plus sides). The crab salad was tasteless as was the mackerel, the lamb was already off the menu by 1pm, the tiny portion of beef lacked flavour and had a mush which I think was meant to be the aubergine with gravy; the sides of vegetables would not have satisfied our 9-year old grand-daughter and the brocolli was cold. The desserts weren't too bad. With my wife's glass of rosé wine (£13) and my coffee, the £118 bill was extortionate. The service was good and earned the 1 point. There are finer dining places for Sunday lunch.

This was our second stay and it was just as good as the first. The hotel is like a home in many ways, warm, comfortable and stylish without being over the top. But what makes it very special is the warmth of the welcome, the outstanding service and the wonderful food.

From arrival The Bath Priory Hotel was an excellent experience. Attentive staff, delicious food in the restaurant and the hotel was immaculate throughout. We have visited the hotel before some time ago and it was great to see the standards were still very high. A safe bet for an excellent and indulgent night away!

So good to be back at the Bath Priory, as perfect and welcoming as ever. The staff are all superb. Had a delicious dinner after a relaxing swim in the pool. It was a lovely family visit, hope to be back again soon.

The service from all of staff was without exception, excellent. Every staff member was frindly, informative and knowledgeable about the hotel and surroundings. The Chef (Jauca Catalin) was able to come into his restaurant and visit every dining guest and chat about his food. I doubt very much we would have received such great service from other 5 star hotels. It just felt a very comfortable stay and we were made to feel special.

Wonderful hotel - stay here if you can, it is offers such luxurious comfort down to every detail. Arriving to freshly baked biscuits and classic FM on in the room made me relax immediately and was a really lovely personal touch that was very much appreciated. We also got a free upgrade on the day and were so delighted with our deluxe double room.

Stayed Wed - Fri in Oct 2023 - plenty of parking available upon arrival - welcomed and shown to room by reception team - porterage offered for luggage. Excellent, comfortable room - plenty of space - two seating areas, and ensuite bathroom. Complimentary papers in the morning. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Very high standard of catering - innovative and interesting menu choices - extensive wine list. Breakfasts very good - equally high standard of service and food. Hghly recommended.
