Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for an overnight trip to visit the nearby spa.
For an overnight stay: it was just about alright although any longer I probably wouldn’t have been too happy. The room was a decent size with a selection of tea and coffee and the bed was very comfortable.
However, we did find the desk staff very variable in attitude: the check in we had was very good but on asking if it was possible to have another sachet of milk (as we only had three provided - there were two of us) in the evening we were met with a very disinterested and not-bothered response.
There was also some very inconsiderate guests who were up talking very loudly until 6am and do NOT underestimate the howl of seagulls, who were incessant throughout the night, as well as pigeons roosting on the window ledges outside. A good night sleep we did not have.
Showering and toilet facilities were manageable for an overnight stay, although the water pressure was dreadful.
It’s a YMCA so I think most of us expect things to be on the basic side, but if you’re staying in Bath for the weekend there are more comfortable and quieter places to stay.

Thank you for taking the time to rate and review. We're very sorry that your stay with us didnt exceed your expectations. Unfortuately we cannot do anything about th birds in Bath, we are so central that this is out of our control. I have however passed your comments onto our Reception and Maintenance Team. We hope that we can welcome you back to stay with us at the YMCA.

Very convenient hostel in the centre of Bath and at an unbeatable price. Welcomed by very happy man on reception. Stayed in a dorm, unfortunately the room smelt awful, the curtains around the bed had dirt and things stuck to it, the charging point was dirty with balls of dust coming off it and the floor was bitty too. The showers and bathrooms were a bit minging, especially the floors and in corners, it all needs a serious deep clean and unfortunately I wouldn't return as felt grossed out and it spoilt my trip. Perhaps the cleaners need some guidance. The breakfast was pretty good and it would be an awesome place if it just had a spruce up!

This was my first time staying in a hostel and for I first time experience I think it went well!
The YMCA Bath is right in the city centre and also right next to a Waitrose so you can’t beat the location when it comes to accessing the sites of Bath and getting the essentials you need.
There is a locker station for you to keep your stuff in during the visit but you’ll need to bring your own lock. There is also a towel rental scheme but I just went to Primark and bought myself a towel to use while staying there.
There is a computer to use in the lobby if you need computer access as well as a dining hall, rec room, and lounge area with games and books to read. There is also a gym that is free to use if you stay there but I did not use it.
The beds were pretty comfortable and the bed linens were clean and comfortable as well. The rooms themselves were not the cleanest, as the sink in the dorm I was staying in did not look cleaned properly.
Mt biggest complaints would be with the wifi and the bathrooms. The wifi was not strong enough for me to use while in my dorm so I had to use my phone data which was a tad bit annoying. It was more accessible down in the lobby area. The bathrooms were pretty gross and the showers were tiny. There looked to be dirt all in the showers, a bleaching and deep cleaning would do them good. Again though, this is a hostel and what is expected from using a public style bathroom. I just wore sandals the entire time I used the bathroom, so an easy fix!
Overall, I was satisfied with my stay at the YMCA Bath and would definitely stay here again!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights to visit the beautiful city of Bath. We found the accommodation, clean, comfortable, warm, and then a great location to tour the sites. The staff were very accommodating and the price was right. We would stay here again were we ever to return to this beautiful city.

Stayed recently for our anniversary trip to Bath. Staff on the reception desk were friendly and helpful.
The room had a kettle and towels were provided. Bed nice and comfy. Wardrobe and chest of drawers.
En suite shower room, clean and functional. Soap provided.
Our only complaint would be that the room was very warm and it wasn’t overly hot weather during our stay - it rained for 2 out of the 3 days. Windows could only be opened a small amount for safety reasons so couldn’t even get a breeze into the room. Staff on reception found us a fan though which helped a little.
There’s a communal dining area with microwave, kettle and toaster should you fancy making a snack during your stay. Staff happy to get you any crockery needed.
It isn’t a hotel, think old style 1980 student digs. But at £50 a night it was spot on (for comparison the Travelodge was £150 a night!).
Stones throw from all the tourist attractions, restaurants and nightlife of Bath. Perfect location really.
Highly recommended. Save yourself a few quid, stay here and not just that, you’ll also be supporting a great charity too.

I booked a stay here for 2 nights as I was attending a festival so I wasn’t fussy on where I was staying (and everywhere else was fully booked). On checking in I found my dorm and bunk but the room smelt strongly of BO, cigarettes and dirt. I requested a room with females and was given a room with no females at all so I’m guessing they didn’t look at that at all. I didn’t realise that this was a place for homeless people and so I was staying around alcoholics and homeless people which didn’t make me feel safe. I then had a lady come up to me and explain how her partner and her were staying there and he had punched her teeth out and stole her things… (if you’re staying get a padlock and lock away all items). The bed had sheets but the beds were dirty with stains and what looked like blood on them. The bathrooms were manageable, there was some flooding by the showers and wee over the toilet seat. I decided to cut my festival short and checkout after the first night. It was extremely noisy with people shouting and I had to break up a fight to get into YMCA on my way back once as they were fighting directly outside. Safe to say this put a downer on my festival jubilee weekend, I will never consider staying here again and it should re-advertise as a homeless shelter instead of a hostel. Trip advisor also states there is free breakfast, tea and coffee but I received none of this so it either didn’t exist or I wasn’t notified of this. Do not stay here! And make sure you read all the reviews!

I paid for a month in advanced, the staff was nice up until recently. One lady stormed into my room at 9am to wake me to tell me i couldn’t use a fire exit door just by my room, that multiple people had been using. I was shocked that she could not wait until I came down for the day to tell me, she had to instead invade my space. Then another lady Theresa at the front desk was extremely rude and condescending. One day i came up to her for some laundry coins and she proceeded to tell me my room was empty theres no record of my and my stuff is gone, and she said i could not enter the premises. I was shocked and immediately ran to my room, and of course my stuff was there safe and sound, the poor girl got confused with another room! Imagine being told you cant go to your room and your stuff has been cleaned out and then threatened with security for trying to go find out. The house cleaning staff sorted it out for us and confirmed that she was indeed wrong.
Then the people they let stay here are questionable and I was attacked by two old ladies (guests) who were odd and I bet homeless. Nothing was done and no apologies were given. The WiFi does not work at all and as a remote worker that was a huge inconvenience. I stayed for 1 month and a week and my room had only been cleaned 2 times since I have been here.
If this sounds like good time; then this is the place for you. Theres another hostel in the center of town above Belushi’s; go there.

Like being in the cat D wing in prison, tolerable but with some major downsides. Pretty much all the toilets being "out of order until tomorrow" when you get up in the morning is not ideal. Mattress like a sack of potatoes, someone else's clothes and receipts in the drawers. My room had a sink. When I came back at night there was a wide selection of tramps hanging round reception. It's very convenient for the centre of town and is half the price of anywhere else.

I stayed at the YMCA in early February 2022 for 1 night in room 315, and whilst the room looked clean, the bedding & mattress was ridden with mites. It was intolerable. I ended up lying on a towel with another towel as a blanket and the window wide open all night. It wasn't bedbugs, no bites at all, and nothing visible to the eye, but I could feel mites all over me, head to toe.
I was late for work and had to leave quickly in the morning, but I called back later on, to let them know that no one should stay in the room until it's dealt with and that id like a refund, please. I wasn't angry, just thought they needed to know and that I deserved reimbursement. I ended up having to leave work 3.5hours early because I couldn't function from lack of sleep.
They have refused to give me a refund which is utterly unacceptable, citing, they didn't find anything and that I should have told them before leaving. This is not how you should treat customers. I have canceled all future bookings (1 a week for 2 months)
I DO NOT recommend this hostel.

Stayed at the YMCA in Bath for a Friday night, the room was clean and tidy, the showers and toilet facilities were very clean, the Reception staff were very helpful. The location is very central so a little nosiey but the bed was so comfortable so slept well. The only thing I would suggest is there is one plug socket in the room, maybe add a few extra plug sockets but apart from that, I would book again!

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately we don't have parking however there is a carpark directly opposite the YMCA and we are in the very centre of Bath within very easy access to the train and bus stations.
parking is horrendous in Bath and suggest that if you are coming to Bath you would be better off coming by coach or train and both the train and the bus stations are next to each other and are in central Bath - most places that you want to see in Bath are within walking distance and the YMCA is less than 10 minute walk from the train station - most car parking is also expensive
