Although absolutely fascinating place with ancient well worn 800 year old spiral stone stairs up to our rooms not at all practical! No hand rail and rather dangerous - certainly not for ladies in a heel.... A bit annoyed that we were not warned of this very restrictive access and for some could be a massive issue. En suite shower...

We had an amazing stay at this hotel, the location is perfect and the staff amazing. Situated right next to the cathedral for spectacular views and a four poster bed topped off the fantastic historical experience. One note - if like my fiancé you are 6'5 always watch your head!!

Small room, thin walls, incompetent staff, slow service, uncooked food served , no help with bags despite asking. Asked where our room was when we picked up keys. Desk guy replied ' upstairs?'. You couldnt make this up. Raw breakfast, 65 minutes wait for food, not value for money, nor edible breakfast. Asked for scrambled eggs, received an omlette folded...

We certainly didn't stay in a room as lovely as the one featured in the photograph. Instead we were disappointed to find ourselves in a small, pokey room in the eves, which could have been lovely with a little TLC. Decoration was tired, carpet worn and toiletries were insufficient. The biggest disappointment was that despite asking 3 times, staff were...

Stayed in the gate house room 9. Lovely view of the cathedral. If you have walking difficulties this isn't for you or if you have a large suitcase as you won't negotiate the narrow eight hundred year old stairs. The restaurant does lovely well priced Italian food. All in all a beautiful hotel with a good breakfast. Loved it.

A friendly and reasonably priced hotel near the heart of Wells, with excellent views out over the green to the cathedral. Staff are mostly young but helpful, happy to go the extra mile to meet our needs. We looked around Wells to eat but most of the local restaurants (many in Sadler St itself) looked at bit pretentious, so we...

And when I say scary I don't mean ghosts although this ancient building must surely be hosting a few. We arrived to a rather cold greeting from the desk attendant and I declined help with my luggage. However, I soon discovered that the staircase was more suited to a mountain climber than to an aging traveller. It was also none...

Well what can I say but a gem. Loved my 3night stay here. Yes quirky n old but that just adds to it especially in this part of England. I will return but next time with the wife as I know she would love it too. Restaurant at night changes to a full Italian experience n the food is just...

Our room was right at the top of the hotel up a very narrow, twisty staircase which could be a problem for anyone not reasonably fit! We were not informed of this when we booked. The room was fine overlooking the cathedral with a recently upgraded bathroom. However this was lacking a few necessities - a toilet roll holder; a...

We have stayed many time for business in this part of the world only to be disappointed, we were not expecting much from this hotel but I'm so pleased to say we changed our minds, from the minute we walked through the door to a very friendly welcome from the lady in reception to the minute we checked out. The...
